It is cool there are those anticipating Castlevania anniversary. It just sucks that Konami won't do anything with it. Similar to Capcom and Megaman... Though at least a Collection of sorts would be something...
I dunno, but it seems like it is up to the fans for the celebration. To make, celebrate and maintain Castlevania longevity. Seems like the perfect place to unveil fanart, fangames and fanfiction.
I first new the series back with Simon's Quest but I didn't jump on board until SotN. I preferred the veriety of weapon types to the standard whip. So I followed the Aria set, Portrait and Eclessia. I still like the story of Dracula X, but gameplay wise is post that game.
though I'd love a Collection with Saturn's Nocturn in the Moonlight and the legit Bloodlines... But something tells me that will never happen.

Hm I first got a feel for castlevania seeing it over a friends house when he brought over his other friend and played super castlevania 4 on the snes Because I was a huge sonic fan I owned a sega genesis and it was not up until I upgraded to a playstation before I owned my first castlevania game which was symphony of the night from there on in I played mostly the rest of them on the handhelds back when me and my other friends were being competetive on the gameboy advance with the pokemon series, the megaman battle network series, and some other few games..so of course I picked up the castlevania double pack which had aria of sorrow,I been in love with castlevania and its vampiric gothic horror exploration nature but was very much put off by konamis choice to have the series go over to lords of shadow which honestly to me did feel like a hack and slash god of war...the second game just killed it for me though I hated it
I gotta say one thing I loved about the castlevania series was the artwork

I feel like I'm a bit of a neophyte compared to some people here LOL. My first Castlevania game was actually Circle of the Moon. I needed a game for my launch GBA and the game seemed sweet so I gave it a shot. I got a LOT of playtime out of that game <3 Became a fan of Castlevanias ever since and I went on to buy and play the next 5 Igavanias in order. After OoE I went back and picked up a copy of SOTN to play to "see where it all began" (for this branch of Castlevania at least). Now slowly I've been making my way through the Classicvanias though I still haven't played most of them. I hope to fix that when I have more time over the years. A "Legacy Collection" from Konami would be super helpful (rather than grabbing them piecemeal from like the Virtual Console and what not) but Konami is going to Konami and leave money on the table :/ LuckPercentSRL : I'm not usually one to indulge in waifu nonsense but I gotta say, over time, I think my opinion of Charlotte has only increased over time. I certainly think highly of Shanoa but I think overall Charlotte was a more balanced character. I was a pretty big non-fan of some of the "childish humor" surrounding her character (though I think a lot of that was a function of the artstyle used in PoR specifically since she looks fine in other official art/fan art) but I found her sassy, uber-nerd personality appealing and she could really hang out and throw down with the best of them. She also had a good, simple, effective design. Similar to how Miriam is a clear Shanoa-expy, I would love to see a Charlotte expy (a nerdy but combat effective witch/mage though with maybe a more mature design) in Bloodstained (or future games in the series) as well. I'm feeling an artsy mood coming on so I think I'm going to look for some fan-art and post it over in the Castlevania Art thread <3

I agree 100% on the pictures ^^) What would I love about Charlotte more is if she was in another game, or in a second Harmony of Despair and she was more vamped to have different playstyles. Like how in HD you can have heal and just be a healer with like some skills around, but mostly you'd be a healer. I would like to see more of the buffing spells she gets in Portrait of Ruin or possible some really cool support spells to be an overall better character to play. And she could have more of an offensive or even like a glass cannon sort of spells to make her really strong when maxed out. That'd be something. (probs if you want to talk more on this, just PM me so we don't derail the topic) I'd like to consider her a waifu of mine, but I have a better one in mind. Even still, I think that Charlotte has brought me closer to the series just because of her honestly.

30 years already? How time flies. Well. My first entry in the Castlevania Series was Dracula X on the SNES and I actually had a blast.I played the NES and CV4 and while I did see why the folks holds them dear, I was kinda meh. But then I got to play SOTN and I was seduced by the Dark Side and that was when I joined Iga's Army of the night. I got a confession. I never played the ps2 games and I went with the GBA and DS games.
With CV's 30 birthday coming, I am happy and sad at the same time. I'm happy this franchise latest this long but with Konami being... well... Konami, I'm sad that we may never get an official closure to the old timeline. A.k.a, the Demon Castle War/Battle of 1999.
Well. That enough negativity. Who wants pancakes and bacon?

My CV story:
I went shopping with my Mom when I was little at a Rose's store (department store like Wal-Mart). Me and my brother played the Haunted Castle arcade game. I distinctly remember thinking how cool it was to whip things and collect hearts.
We later got CV1 on the NES. CV2 was next. I remember reading somewhere (on the back of the box maybe?) that CV2's difficulty made CV1 look like a cake walk. Me and my brother were really good at video games, and challenging games were our top picks. (As a side note, I can remember the day we got Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos. On the box it said, "Hard to beat." That was enough to sell it for us.)
We borrowed CV3 from a friend at school and later ended up buying it. My cousin picked up SCV4 before us and we were all blown away by the whip controls. I played the heck out of SCV4. (I was even able to beat it without dying--after much time spent with the game.)
I can remember my hype going through the roof when I heard about Castlevania 64. I was in college at the time and can remember using IGN's website for as much information as possible on the game.
My brother invited me to visit him at his college to show me a CV game. We spent a weekend playing it. It was the most amazing thing ever. Some of you may have heard of it. It's called Symphony of the Night. It is my favorite game to this day. I haven't found anything to top it.
I played all of the handheld CV's after they had been out for a while. (I hate handheld gaming.) I picked up LoI and CoD for PS2 late as well. I didn't have a PS2 for their release. Lament is probably my second favorite CV game (might be tied for second with SCV4 depending on my mood).
I didn't start collecting CV games until about 10 years ago. I have most of them now. (Never tried Kid Dracula or the CV mobile game.)
Heard about a CV spiritual successor kickstarter project. Backed and followed the fund-raising campaign. Joined the forums. Funded donuts. Posted CV stories in anniversary threads.
There are lots of other CV stories that I have left out, but the ones mentioned are my most memorable ones.
