I refuse your barbarous masquerade. You will have to strike me down where I stand. I will gladly be martyred for my taste in historic weaponry!
But don't you dare wave that orange chainsaw around at me.

Orange chainsaw? So your eyes do have the ability to acknowledge that which is precious. Very well, your transgression will be pardoned on the basis of your Retina Acknowledging Dramatically the Divine Orange Prism Emitter. Orange transparent chainsaws are both RAD and DOPE.
I miss the late 80's and early 90's "cool" equivalents. To get back a bit more to the topic at hand, I feel a slightly diagonal slash for broadswords (or any other larger sword type) would work best. Keeping the vertical line and over the shoulder swing is great for giving off a sense of weight, while the additional diagonal element would give an accent to the fact that the sword is still primarily used to cut and not outright smash things.
This would also give it additional flavor compared to the completely straight line of a hammer smash.

Honestly though, I kind of liked the fact that weapons that dramatically raised your attack level so early on in the game had drawback; the whole speed over strength concept and all that jazz.
