I loved Curse, it is a much better game for me than Ritual. Does everyone have to say this when they praise Curse of the Moon? I see it so often lol. I get it, we all get it It feels like every post of ReySol's here and in the discord, he says it, and he's not the only one. That's great! and Zangetsu is a MAAAN and not some giiiiirl sorry, it just gets to me sometimes. My own personal opinion is that Curse of the Moon is not so much better as it is more polished as an experience than RotN; but this is to be expected, as it is also much more simple in terms of both graphics and play mechanics. Also, it had less expectations placed on it and, while the launch wasn't perfect, it wasn't the PR clusterf*ck that RotN's launch was. So all of these things contribute to that perception, I think. purifyweirdshard , gunlord500 Speaking of " Good Dominique", do you guys know who did the character designs for this game? I can tell the artwork is Mana's but I don't know if the original designs are hers or not.

The artwork (and designs) looked like Yuji Natsume again to me rather than any work of Mana's. Here's a refresher on what those looked like for CotM 1: curseofthemoon.com/en/1/characters/It has that same pastel/ghostly pale texture and feel to it, and the original KS concept art was similar which was also his.

I think you're right and I just mixed up their respective art styles in my head. He's really stepped up his game, then. I mean, I loved Miriam and Zangetsu's designs, but the supporting characters kinda lacked flare, I think. And this time, all the characters stand out. So, congrats to Natsume-san!

Man, this is a super pleasant surprise. While I'm still looking forward to RotN's DLC, I'll certainly take a CotM 2.
I wonder if the "Crossover Character" will end up being Hachi. Might be cheating, but I won't say no to Corgi Mech in my game, lol.

Few interesting notes about the trailer. Curse of the Moon 2 seems to be referencing other 2D classics. I kind of find it strange how it sort of goes out of its way to give nostalgia nods when I feel like it's strong enough to stand on its own if it wants. It's almost like it has a vibe where it wants us to see the winks and chuckle. Here are some examples:
*Zangetsu flying into his mission on a glider = Capcom's Strider flying into his first mission on a glider.
*Dominique's pogo stick staff attack = Capcom's DuckTales (...Zelda II's down thrust, and more recently, Shovel Knight)
*Hachi = Capcom's Mega Man X series' Ride Armors.
*(Maybe less so) The rising moai heads = Konami's Gradius shout-out?
Anybody else spot these and/or get the impression it's winking at long-time gamers?

I mean, Shovel Knight (the base game) was constructed almost entirely around winking at DuckTales, as the pogo down attack is central to the play. You'd be surprised at how many people will go above and beyond for a game that stokes their nostalgia, overtly or subtly. Thus, I don't see any reason to avoid nostalgia winks wherever you can get 'em. Obviously, if they're too excessive to the point of distraction or unoriginal to the point of plagiarism, *then* they're bad, but as I'm sure we can both agree, CoTM isn't anywhere near that level and right now it's very pleasing.

Oh, I'm thrilled about Curse of the Moon 2, and these things aren't too distracting. I shouldn't be surprised because of the overt nostalgia factor baked into 2D indie games these days, but I was just a little surprised they wouldn't push the brand as its own thing harder somehow. I guess to leave no doubt that it can be its own brand, because there are still articles I'm seeing that are talking about how it's simply "Castlevania nostalgia."
And I must say, the reason it might be important for it to keep solidifying its branding is because it's not in a vacuum anymore, with seemingly comparable things like Lords of Exile popping up:

Does everyone have to say this when they praise Curse of the Moon? I see it so often lol. That's great! and Zangetsu is a MAAAN and not some giiiiirl sorry, it just gets to me sometimes. I can't speak for other folks but I've always associated a specific visual and audio design with the CV series.
RotN is a fun game but in terms of visual designs it draws the short straw when compared to virtually any CV game and the OST isn't exactly Michiru Yamane's best work either.
With CotM everything clicks. Visual design, music and gameplay. It's the perfect CV experience, of course at a lower technical level. Whereas with RotN there's always the feeling of looking back and thinking what could have been.
Just take a look at the early concept artwork:
Now I'm not a programmer so I'm not sure how feasible the following statement is but I don't think the artwork above is that far removed from what Way Forward was able to accomplish with Half Genie Hero by blending 2D and cleverly shaded 3D elements. I would love to see a sequel to RotN that attempts to go for this look even if ends up being a smaller game. I mean that's great and I actually agree to a point, but a lot of the time it's only as deep as "I don't like Miriam as a character because she's a girly girl, CotM was better".

That's great! and Zangetsu is a MAAAN and not some giiiiirl sorry, it just gets to me sometimes. Hehe, I think I say it a lot because I when the Kickstarter campaign launched I was only excited about Ritual and thought of "the prequel game" as something small and unimportant. Now I see it as one of the best games and enjoyed it so much more than Ritual, for various reasons. I prefer the visuals and 2D sprites, I prefer the bosses, the music, the atmosphere, the main character Zangetsu, the possibilities of having allies or getting their powers, changing characters and powers, various paths in the game..I feel somewhat disappointed with Ritual, even though I did like it and got a LOT from it (artwork, music, new IGA game, new experience..) but I didn`t like Miriam as the main character, I didn`t like alchemy and cooking, which you had to do in order to 100%, I didn`t like some bosses, and really the Switch experience just ruined this game: the input lag and low quality graphics, the loading times between some rooms is unacceptable. I also didn`t like when they nerfed items, some that didn`t make any sense. I am a little bitter about Ritual, and even when I can play it now with Zangetsu, who is my favorite character, I don`t have much motivation to go through the game again. On the other hand I can replay Curse many times and I am excited about it every time, I really enjoy it. When I saw the news of Curse 2, I was so hyped, I coudn`t believe we are getting the sequel already. I am so excited about it and have to repeat I like it more than Ritual, because even to me it seems improbable that I would prefer the smaller game that I didn`t care when it was announced, to the game that was supposed to be THE game. I am glad we have all of these Bloodstained games, and look forward to all that will come from it.

look at the "1P" at the top of the screen below the character portraits. Is this a hint at multiplayer? Also i would like to know if Limited Run Games will release a Limited Edition again, so i don't buy it twice. It sure looks like it, I was looking at the screenshots on the official website after you mentioned it and noticed that right under the 1P you mentioned that it says 2P Push Start I saw the Japanese trailer, and actually where it says in English " will you face the threat alone, or with comrades by your side," the Japanese version says something like " alone or in cooperation"... and the term they use for cooperation is the one they always use for "cooperative play," so, yeah... with the screen saying 2p press start, that's the logical conclusion.

Awesome news! Was hoping this would happen but wasn't expecting it this soon. 2P looks like fun and is it just me or is one of the new characters based on Robbie Belgrade? I knew he looked familiar! Duh, Robert. Maybe they're setting the character up for the sequel, where he'll be voiced by The Man Himself. Maybe the character moonlights as a librarian?

His Devil Essence & Helmsplitter are also similar to some skills of Z Saber. Dominique's Vertical Strike & Hopping Strike are like Zero's Triple Rod in MMZ1, and then her Impact Lance is like diven EX Skill of Z Saber. Robert's Wall Kick & Drake Cannon are also Mega Man-style. Hachi imo is also like Baby Head in Captain Commando, this charactr is called "Hoover" in Japanese version: the initial of both names is "H"...

And, has anyone noticed the description of Lubius? "Those who have ventured deep enough have reported seeing different things: a beautiful woman, lost family members, and even a slender female dog", does this look like "The Mirror of Erised": It shows what characters desire: "lost family members" shoule be Dominique's, "a slender female dog" I guess is Hachi's, "a beautiful woman", maybe this related to Robert? Btw in Japanese description it is "a beautiful long-legged female dog".

About the name of Lubius, its Japanese name is called 「サリュビス」 but it seems that English name only contains 「リュビス」 without 「サ」,according to her description I presume this 「サ」 is signified 「サキュバス」 (Succubus).

I hope this sequel is a financial success, so that the profits help fund RotN 2. Honestly, I never got into CotM when I had received it as part of the Kickstarter package, because the gameplay I find to be rather bland. I can see the appeal of this game because of it's old school Castlevania roots. Castlevania never hooked me until SotN was released.
Regardless, I hope this sequel lives up to every fan's expectations.

Re: Zangetsu/Zero, I was talking about that even before RotN came out haha I was just thinking that it would be pretty amazing if it had been planned originally, in Mega Man X style from Inti Creates' DNA, for Zangetsu to hand off his sword to Miriam like Zero does for X as one of the "final" weapons. Blue/red, Zangetsu is a tragic character like Zero, "varied projectile enemy-learned" abilities character versus melee-focused character... (above was pre-release well before I played the game)
well, lol. Sure was right about that. It ended up being even more similar than I thought. I'll make a full thread about this later I don't think I ever made that thread because I don't see it? But yeah, the similarities of X/Zero to Miriam/Zangetsu are pretty funny imo. Other things that have been pointed out for CotM2 - Dominique to Leviathan and Model L. At the end of stage one, you can see the boss appear in front of the moon and move downward, like Werewolf boss in Rondo stage 2.
