I've only played a bit of Bloodlines, but it's a pretty cool game. Playing as Eric offers something unique to the series, the difficulty's high, and the music is awesome. I found the Requiem Platinum trophy a little too easy; by contrast, anyone who platinum's this collection (assuming it has one) will be a legend. However, it all hinges upon emulation. If the emulation's crap I may not even bother. Keep a look out for reviews, I imagine critics will get their hands on the collection prior to the release.

Not necessarily - the trophies may only be "get x points, see all CV3 stages, hear the tale of the graveyard duck", lol. They probably figure 99% of people aren't going to try beating, say, Adventure.

I'm really curious to know if this collection will include the Japanese versions of each game, like in M2's various retro re-releases. I've heard the Japanese version of Castlevania III has a much fairer difficulty curve (but even if it didn't, the FDS soundtrack would be worth it). If it does include the Japanese versions, It'll be a lot more likely that I pick this collection up.

It'll be a post-launch update to include Japanese versions of the games (they didn't specify, but 3/Akumajo Densetsu is the most important one for sure)

Quite; Grant is FAR more viable in the FDS version relative to the NES version.
You think we should make Warren Ellis play that version and see if it improves his opinion of the character?

I've never played the Famicom version. I've seen videos of it, music and all. It's all good, but at the same time, I'm so used to the sounds and limitations of the NES version that it never really struck me as a must-play or 100% "better." Fairer or more balanced, perhaps. I used to always assume that Grant's trade-off for speed and agility/shortcuts was a risky close-in attack. When I was new to CVIII, I always went with Sypha, as she makes fights easier. But having the Japanese versions to compare will be nice, and I must say that I hope Grant makes it into animation eventually. I mean, he provides a ground-level view of the resistance against Dracula better than any other character, I'd think.

Even the EU version of the collection has Bloodlines, not TNG. Which is good.
Anyway, for now the collection seems to have good emulation. I tried CV1, 3, Bloodlines and Kid Dracula a bit and it seems fine. CV1 has a strange beeping SFX every now and then which I didn't remember when I played it on GBA, but apart from that the emulation seems pretty nice.

You do have to complete each game for platinum. But that's all the trophies are, just "play this game"/"complete this game".

Yeah I saw. And there isn't a platinum, just gold. That's a lot of work for a gold trophy lol

First time playing Kid Dracula, I'm at level 4 but gosh it's pretty horrible lol levels are simplistic in design but a lot of them have gimmick that make controlling Kid a nightmare. I'll complete it for the novelty but it's really not that good.

Just finished the first 2 Castlevania games in the collection (Castlevania & Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest), which actually marks the first time I've actually beaten Simon's Quest (I got the "Normal" ending, taking about 11 in game days) and so far outside of a bug that caused Castlevania to freeze in the hallway right before the boss fight with Death (and of course I didn't realize the collection allowed for saves/save states so I didn't save any of my progress and had to start the whole game all over again) I'm really enjoying this collection. I especially enjoy the 80 pg bonus book that you can view through the in game menus and definitely plan on digging through it some more in the next couple of day.

-Any word on the controls? Some people say they are horrible for the NES games, but I looked at the mapping of B and A as attack and jump, and that's the same as the NES, the only difference being the angle of the buttons. (I've heard people saying "A" should be attack, but that makes no sense to me. I remember they flipped the buttons on the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for Gamecube, and that was awful.)
-I heard that the Level 5 bug is due to them using the wrong ROM, which was known to have this glitch when sprites overload the screen. Don't know if it's true or not.
-I'm also hearing that CV1's Stage 2 has a sound bug.
I'm trying to figure out if my low-grade computer can handle this game. It could handle Curse of the Moon, but it chugged big time with the two Ritual of the Night demos. I will want to fire up Bloodlines with this collection, so it could be more demanding. Not sure.

RichterB the control scheme is pretty faithful to the original scheme the games had. For example, in SCV4 you use subweapons with the right shoulder button. In the NES titles, A is jump and B is attack. Complaining about "horrible controls" is completely nonsensical. One could argue that you should be able to remap buttons and that's understandable, but the default control scheme for the games is the same they really had. The only difference is that Switch has four buttons instead of two so one might naturally think that the equivalent to a playstation's X button would be jump and "square" would be attack... but like I said, it's literally their original controls. CV1 has a beeping noise at random which is pretty annoying and I think not limited to level 2, but it's not THAT MUCH of an hindrance all things considered. Experience tells me that these collections work at their best on a console. As much as I love retrogaming on PC, the many different configurations seem to be especially tricky for this kind of collections. The Megaman X ones have terrible reviews on Steam reporting endless problems, but on Switch they work alright in my opinion.

On the PS4 game pad you can jump with circle and attack with triangle (by default) so if you're used to your jump button being below the attack button this is an easy fix. The controls are very well done overall. No input lag or other issues, controls are true to the original games.
Other than the small audio glitch in CV1 there's not a lot to complain about. The ebook is great and I enjoyed reading the interview with Michiru Yamane. So far I've beaten SCV4 (twice) and CV1 and started playing Bloodlines. Having a great time reliving these classic games and playing others for the first time.

Interested to hear your thoughts on first time with Bloodlines after Super Castlevania IV, and considering the 0ther 16-bit Castlevanias of Rondo of Blood, Dracula X, and Adventure Rebirth.
Some fifteen or so years ago, I remember getting to try out Bloodlines for a decent amount of time and Belmont's Revenge for the first time, and I was amazed by the diverse concepts in these more obscure entries.
