I weld, but don't have much experience with woodwork, what materials did you use, and why? Was weight a factor? Or was a softer wood easier to work with? It was two pieces of balsa sandwiched over one piece of poplar for structure. I chose wood as a medium because I didn't trust myself with foam since that is still very new to me >. < For the faux glass I used a sheet of acrylic and made it look like stained glass as much as I could (youtube videos helped me a tooooon). It was actually very light as for its weight. I thought it would be a tooooon heavier after we finished it. Luckily? It stayed pretty light. On another note... I wish I knew how to weld... that would be awesome x.x I always wanted to make weapons, might give it a try with wood. and ya, welding is a lot of fun! I will post something I made later. |

Finally took some pictures of my fire pit that I welded. Hopefully I can get some new equipment and start welding again.    Ignore the rust, it's over 13 years old and has lived outside through Saskatchewan winters every year. EDIT: I forgot, the point of this post was to say that I want to try and make prop weapons and armour. But I would also need some leatherwork experience. There is a guy in my city who does a leather armoury, makes awesome bracers, pouches and even book covers; maybe I can learn some of that. I don't want to derail this thread so if anyone else has some awesome cosplays, or props to show, please show me! |
