Vote with heart and mind
It will show how far you personally can stretch to make sure Bloodstained is as great as it can be without you feeling it's taking too much time. Remember, answer with heart as well as mind, try to find a balance. For me, I can wait 2020 personally. I have no issue about that, even though we do have patches as an option.
Reason: Personally, I feel it needs more polish, I do not see this being out in 2018, but what do you think?
Solutions: Get more people work on the game / Vacations / More asset creations (or free / fan-made ones) / More time (reason for this poll).
But think about the aftermath!
Pros
If short deadline
- If you honestly feel the game is near complete, then you should vote accordingly, and probably get an awesome game that might, or might not get heavily patched in the future (no official word about it). The choice you make is up to you and its fine either way.
- Releasing a game now would make people hungry for more, perhaps a Bloodstained 2, after ArtPlay have done a few other cool games or programs (apps).
- A release this close would also stay more true to the timefram ArtPlay probably have set for themselves. After all, a project needs to have an internal goal and not drag on "forever". Newssites and articles, content-creators etc. will hype the game, fans will rejoice.
If long deadline
- The game will be "finished", it will be a complete for sure if handled correctly.
- Even if the newssites will talk negative about the releasewindow being too far of, and even bring up #9 as an example (mighty number youknowwhat), the end results is what matter.
- After a year or so, the game will still be a fantastic piece of art post-release, and give many the fun-factor of adventure and details that Koji IGA Igarashi and his team (both old and new) are famous for. In the end, it would be according to his vision (and thus ... dare I say it..? Perfect!).
Cons
If short deadline
- Newssites might feel its an epic game, but rely heavily on some unpolished features that will drag the total score down. Wrong sites that have no clue about the legacy, nor Koji Igarashi, or aren't well informed might drag it down a bit too much simply because mechanics, features and/or graphics might not be to their liking. This of course is also a con even if it would have a long deadline.
- Fans will feel it feels unfinished and telling their friends to buy some other game instead.
If long deadline
- Newssites will surely take the releasedate, if its very far ahead, and make it into negative articles. As it would be suggested its in either limbo or any other "made-up" thing, resulting in making the fans worry and perhaps even get angry - perhaps even give up on the project.
- If the FANS want this, this would be the first piece of sourcematerial needed to get across to the newssites, so they would understand its a request from fans, and not something the developers want. Its vital to get this information across, if people feel it needs more time. And that might give us fans a bit more to chew on, and perhaps even make us defend the title - making it into a bad circle. And the talks about the #9 failure will continue, even though it have nothing to do with this project. *sigh
- Once the game is out, gamers and fans would change their minds, the sales would however be somewhat slow the first month or two - which is NOT good for the PM departments of 505 Games.
There are way more pros and cons which aren't written down up here, feel free to continue the discussions.
Thanks for the read.
Now, vote with your heart and mind. / Enkeria

As early as possible would be great as long as it's fairly polished... However, if they do need time for said polishing, I wouldn't mind waiting to at worse the middle of 2019. Beyond that, though, I feel it might get a bit too much and become sort of a joke...

It's also a possibility that they could release the game in 2018 and it not need patching. I wouldn't assume that it will need fixing if that happens.

I voted for 2018, for several reasons. First, it needs to be released during "this gen" of consoles. Second, waiting for the team to test, patch, retest, repatch, polish etc. for months and not release until it is virtually perfect is not what everyone wants. And third, IGA and his team will want to work on other projects too.
And Halloween 2018 needs this game!

I'd be willing to wait no longer than half of 2019. Yeah, they should take their time and polish the game (and it needs a lot of polish), but the development didn't start six months ago, so Q1 2019 is perfectly fine, but beyond H1 2019 would likely make a lot of people lose their patience (and they would be right).

I want them to polish it well, so they should take as much time as needed. After ending the development, they might need another 6 months to have the game look better, while also adding little details: I don`t mind waiting. I am not happy that so many different modes were promised as stretch goals, as well as things like "Iga`s biggest castle" (all focus on quantity), but I just want the quality to be top. Quality (mostly visuals) is not yet at the level I expect. Things can still improve, and I generally like what we have seen so far.

I wouldn't mind even for an year of delay if they could make the graphics and gameplay better than the one we have so far.

given that many of the modes are IGAvania staples and piggyback off the main game development i dont see many of them causing undue issues with the team, boss revenge is an awesome addition but if the bosses in it are designed from the ground up with a control scheme in mind it becomes a variation on extra playable characters, similar to the sisters in PoR and similarly within their area of expertise, for coop i point again to PoR where IGA and team did try out some form of online coop with the boss rush mode so between whole of the teams i think they have this in hand, which leaves roguelike which they are getting some experience in tweaking through their work into procedural generation of various states of decay and ornamentation
going off what ive seen in the demo and the about even spread of bugs and feedback that have been reported the team wont be lopsided in what they can focus on going forward, which in turn wont slow down the development as a whole, i think the team is in a good position going forward and well start to see those tweaks and fixes in future updates. remember this is being made by a core team of people that have had to make games on shoestring budgets and insanely short turnaround, i can see this releasing late 2018, but if the team decides they want to push it back into 2019 for extra polish and be as perfect as they can feasibly get it, id be all for it

There's such a thing as too much time. Much longer than early 2019 and I'd start to worry. The team could end up getting sidetracked with other projects, release on certain platforms could become jeopardized *cough-cough, Vita*. I just wish we'd get some specifics on how much more work needs to be done, how much more they'd like to do, and how long it would all take, even a ball-park estimate.

I just wish we'd get some specifics on how much more work needs to be done, how much more they'd like to do, and how long it would all take, even a ball-park estimate. Publicly releasing an estimate seems like a bad PR move to me. Estimating gamedev work is notoriously difficult. Estimates get made and broken in gamedev all the time. Risking this publicly would be problematic. I can already hear the "DELAY!"-shouts in the distance just thinking about it
I agree tha too much time could be a problem too. Vita is on its way out and this will likely be one of its last titles. I wouldn't worry about other projects. As long as Bloodstained's not released I trust in IGA and team to fully focus on it. That's what he said in numerous interviews.

I am fine with the current status quo. Don't care about brilliant graphics, which could be patched afterwards. Would prefer instant Early Access, since Voice Acting is complete, so is the story. Gameplay felt perfect for what I am used to play.. so gimme NOW! ^^

I am happy to wait much longer if it means the game will look much better visually. I think considering most of the internet seems to be complaining about the visuals it'd be better overall. If they said we want to delay it to address the visual issue, and if they put out updates on how they're improving it ....I see it as a good move.

Whenever it meets Iga's standards. This game has started to make me understand why developers dont like releasing video and screenshots of games in development. The danger of turning off gamers who might be on the fence or people who don't understand the process of building something so complex is very real. Having taking funding from a publisher as well as kickstarting this project puts Iga in an awkward position in my opinion, but I, for one, hope the game will not be rushed in any way. Good games take time and they transcend hardware, genre, and trends. Sotn will live forever. Nobody cares about release dates after the fact. Let's just hope we don't get hit by a truck before we get to play it....
