Bloodstained 2018 Demo is out. With a meaty content and interesting set up, there are a lot of things to be discussed out and about. Answer these questions! Here goes! QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GAME'S PLOT
With tons of books and two NPCs, that is a great place for some plot. 1) Demons attacked the world ten years ago. Johannes says that happened thanks to the book Liber Logaeth that Alfred is seeking. Why Alfred wants the book that teaches how to summon demons using Shardbinders as catalysts? 2) Miriam fell into a powerful spell that put her on a sleep for ten years. Johannes says that such spell stopped time for her (so she didn't aged) and it was "advanced, arcane" and by studying it, he was able to predict exactly when she would awake. What do you think that was? A counter-effect of she turning into a Shardbinder? Someone deliberately wanted Miriam to fall into a time-stop slumber for ten years? For what reason? 3) Gebel, Johannes and Dominique, they all mention that, by absorbing more and more shards, Miriam will eventually fall into darkness. Do you believe that will actually be a gameplay point? You can sell shards and Dominique explicity says that can help on stopping Miriam's corruption. Miriam says Johannes helped her before, and would help again. If so, how that would work from a gameplay standpoint? 4) Johannes knows about the Liber Logaeth. He knew exactly when Miriam would wake up and he worked his alchemy to stop the crystals from corrupting her. Gebel killed absolutely all alchemists, save for Alfred (that is considered a overly powerful character) and Johannes, that doesn't seem all that powerful. As asked on THIS thread, Is there more to Johannes than meets the eye? For the good and for the bad? 5) Zangetsu can be seen braving against the waves at the background of Galleon Minerva all by himself. Later on, you meet him and he barely talks to you, labeling you as a threat for being a Shardbinder and claiming he is your executioner. Mid-fight, Dominique shows up and orders him to stop, calling him by his name. Two questions into one: a) Why Zangetsu attacked Miriam? b) How Dominique knows him? 6) It was stayed before that Anne will have a role in the game, by taking care of Dominique's shop when she is "out". We don't know what Dominique will be doing when out. Also, Dominique is buying shards for the church to purify them. When first spoken to, Dominique claims it's really strange that a Shardbinder does so much havoc (Gebel) while another one wakes up almost at the same time. As asked before about Johannes... Is there more to Dominique than meets the eye? For the good and for the bad? 7) Do you think, aside from Miriam and Gebel, that any other Shardbinder survived the rituals to bring demons to earth ten years ago? 8) Gremory, a high-ranking demon from Ars Goeatia, was with Gebel when he visited the Galleon Minerva. She called him "Master" and teleported him out of there, after saying they must return. She did that EXACTLY when Gebel had some kind of "spark of real self" when Miriam provoked him. What is Gremory's role? QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GAMEPLAY and VISUALS
Enemies, weapons, magic and a gorgeous entrance to the castle. Igavania as it's finest? 9) Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has 10 weapon types: Sword, Short Sword, Rapier, Great Sword, Katana, Spear, Mace, Shoes, Whip and Gun. Do you believe the game should have one more type? What type? Do you think the weapon types are differentiated / balanced enough or something lacks? 10) What do you think on how customization works as of now, with the player capable of changing Miriam's headgear and some acessories and weapons showing up on her model (also, take note that it was revealed you will be able to turn off the visuals if you don't like them, this is just not in the demo yet). 11) Some weapons at the demo has special moves. Some are repeated through some weapons and even unarmed (the boots move can be done without any weapon). What are your thoughts about weapon special moves so far? 12) The demo is quite packed with new enemies and some redesigns / changes (such as Amy turning into Ghost). What do you think about Bloodstained enemies? Their visuals, how they fight, how tough or easy they are and such? 13) The demo has 16 shards to collect and they can be enhanced. What do you think of the shards, their power, usefulness and such? 14) With 4 scenarios (Galleon Minerva, ArvantVille, Entrance and Garden of Silence) what do you think about the backgrounds, scenarios and visuals? That's all folks!

Well, if what Gremory did to Zangetsu in CotM is any indication, it can be possible she did/is doing the same to Gebel.

Question nº 4, it's not Shanoa. The things people think though... I think they are mistaken the plot for Shanoas though Hope Iga didn't go with the exact same thing... so far it is kinda pointing towards it though.

You could see him as 2 possible ways, 1. he wants to actually help protect the world and wants to seal away the book so no one else can ever summon the demons again or 2. he doesn't like that Gebel stole the book from him while he wanted the power for himself... If you ask me the first one sounds more likely since the story is pointing so hard that we shouldn't like him/trust him even though we know nothing about him . Yea sure, but who did cast that spell and how would Johannes just "find out" when she would wake up. Sounds very fishy to me - seems more like that Miriam was an experiment from the church to control demons power - which is why Gebel asked her if she couldn't remember what "they" did to "them". So I would assume that the corruption (if taken into consideration as a gameplay plot) would only affect the shards from bosses - Maybe the more bosses you absorb without selling them you get different possible endings? As I see it Johannes was hired by the church to find a way to put Miriam to sleep until the next possible outbreak of the Liber Logaeth. That or, since the church buys off the shards to "purify" them it could have been actually all planned out to first use only Gebel to get more shards but Gebel had enough of that and stole the Liber Logaeth to reorganize the world since right now it just is chaos with the ones leading it. Since Gebel was lost they got the backup up which is Miriam. While those actions though Gebel could have lost it to the darkness because of the Liber Logaeth having too much power. a) Why Zangetsu attacked Miriam? Might be another Backup of the Church, if Miriam will also succumb to the darkness aswell. Or if Miriam fails so they can just wipe out that failed attempt of controlling that power. b) How Dominique knows him? Like I said he was hired also by the church. Maybe she just doesn't know everything herself, or just pointed into the dark even though she knows why Miriam was awaken. Telling us that she hopes it's not because the higher ups think they have failed. I doubt it. Unless they add another playable character later on. But that would have been just a filler then. Right now it seems to only be those 2. Since it is a demon just looking out that the master won't get his real self (which has good intends) but rather keeps going for destruction which all demons want, right? Nah, there are enough weapons - don't really need more. We also know there will be a "Sword whip" so it actually is 11 weapons. (Maybe add alucards shield as a homage of the op one in SotN ) I'd like if not only the weapons or head pieces change the look but the armors would show aswell. So it would actually be more visible the progress level (Like in any Zelda: Link to the past with the blue armor and red armor it's a simple recolor but you get a nice progress feel out of it) They are nice. Would love to find books around in the castle which tell you which combinations exist - also are only unlocked once you found those books of old war fare. They are fine, nothing really to comment to it. Bosses could be made a little harder but that could be adjusted by difficulty settings. "Eh" nothing special seen so far besides the boss shard which was pretty cool. It all looks great. My favorite two rooms are the safe room and the blood moon room so far.

What do you think of the shards, their power, usefulness and such? 14) With 4 scenarios (Galleon Minerva, ArvantVille, Entrance and Garden of Silence) what do you think about the backgrounds, scenarios and visuals? Of course I'll answer the questions, PM. Even if no one reads them, it gives me something to think about lol. 1. I suspect the old guard alchemists and the church are working together, unfortunately. A theory is that he represents this alliance that wants the book in their hands as opposed to Gebel's - maybe not for world domination, but so they can "keep it safe", but ultimately and likely repeat similar mistakes. Mike put the alchemists/church thing in my head and it makes sense. 2. Perhaps someone wanted Miriam in prime condition for the mission she would undergo, and/or to seal her up to prevent a Gebel situation. The two of them in conflict may benefit one of the other groups. 3. Yeah, this was a theory long ago on the boards that shard use/absorption would play into the story paths somehow. I kind of hope it does, and I like the idea of purifying Miriam that way. Who knows, maybe that unlocks Pure Miriam (ha)? 4. I don't suspect Johannes all that much. I think he's a good dude. I think he very likely KNOWS more, but isn't more, if you know what I mean. 5. Zangetsu is a paradigm of blind justice, black and white. He sees demon thing, demon thing must be killed. His background colors this. The irony is that he teeters close to demonhood himself. I think he knows Domi from working alongside the church as a demon hunter and they have things in common. Things. 6. There's a lot to Dominique. lol 7. Yes 8. Gremory is most likely corrupting and influencing Gebel, essentially Shaft'ing him (lol). I could easily see an ending path where you can fight either Gebel himself, or instead find/do something that bypasses that to take down Gremory. At that point, who knows that could happen next and who is the final boss. There's a lot of possibilities. 9. Well, there's one more than what's in the demo from what we saw in a weapons update (two handed "Rods"). You missed Axe there, as well, so that's 12 for now. Something Angel told me a while back had me thinking that there were more past even that, and we're not sure on the status of "throwing swords". Balance is looking great. I think if anything that whips should be a bit faster. 10. I like it! Looking forward to seeing how changing the colors of her skin/outfit goes, and the hairstyle options. Must be some kind of in-game unlock feature? And then you can take photos of yourself with Dominique's camera from what I'm guessing lol 11. Well heh bloodstainedfanforums.com/thread/3407/command-input-moves-attacks-meaning12. I think they're on a great track. I do wonder why Amy was changed to simply a Ghost. Maybe there's a new, different Amy now? Kind of like how decarabia was changed. Astaroth pointed out that the bug enemy looks like one of the best lit/designed ones, and looking closer I agree. 13. Shards are really strong. The temptation will be there for players to use and abuse them, but at what cost? CORRUPTION 14. I would rank them Ship, Castle, Garden, Village. Ship: Pretty much complete, just needs some minor adjustments (like that one map room that used to look better in 2016) Castle: Just needs the lighting and proc generation turned on, mostly, and maybe some different colors (like the 2016 shader voting shot etc) Garden: Doesn't look especially good or bad, could use some more color Village: While my lowest and not per se awful, I do prefer how it looked here quite a bit: Look at that color! I love the rocks below the player. Miriam nowadays runs closer to the bottom of the screen though.

Why does Alfred want the book? Most likely power for himself. Simply keeping it out of Gebel's hands is probably also enough motivation for him, though. Alfred is easily portrayed as a confrontational antagonist, but I'd like to see his views of using such power for what he believes is for a greater good. Zangetsu is extremely ridged in his quest to destroy all things demonic, and seeing these two interact will be interesting for sure.
It's always been odd to me to think of this spell stopping time for her. Does that mean she was 10 years older than Gebel and Johannes and now they have caught up to her? Does it mean she was the same age as them and is now 10 years younger? Does it mean it stopped time for the progression of her curse only and her body aged along with her friends? They were all supposed to be the same age, and I think it's weird now. Also, it seems from her dialogue that she was trained to fight before her sleep. I had always wanted her training to be in another realm during her slumber in this world, but oh well. As for the source of the spell and it's timing, it's obviously linked with the summoning of the castle. That was done by Gebel for Miriam according to previous interviews. I think Gebel cast the spell to preserve Miriam, but fell to his corruption before he could cure her. Now he wishes to have her join him.
In SotN, IGA wanted Alucard's ending to change depending on how much he used his dark magical abilities vs using weapons. I think IGA will be doing this with Miriam, and certain story elements will change as she is corrupted. Either it will be obvious with a meter we track or it will just happen at the end. Keeping it hidden would be interesting and make you really worried about how much you use your abilities, but it would also make it tough to ensure the ending you want to get.
I have always thought people look to Johannes being anything but a good friend is silly. People should be asking this of Dominique with her role in the church instead. The church stands to lose just as much credit in a scientific age of awaking as the alchemist guild did.
Zangetsu doesn't trust shardbinders, and will destroy anything demonic. His war against the demonic is a natural alignment with the church. It seems Dominique is the contact who got everyone to the castle, and Zangetsu is part of her plans.
Oh, yeah for the bad I think. See my previous answer on question 4.
No, I think those were the only two then. However, could the ritual be used again? I don't see why not.
Gebel has been corrupted and Gremory has convinced him that it's time to change the world as he sees fit. As with most evil alliances, there has to be a benefit for both parties for it to work out. I would like to think Gremory is more opportunistic with her relationship with Gebel rather than the full reason he is acting as he is. She doesn't want him to stop, so getting him away from Miriam for now is a good move.
Knives are also in there. I think we have enough weapon types, but I'd love to see a dual sword or dual whip mechanic.
The more customization the better. Having the vanity slots will help a lot. I can't wait to see how the costume changes will look. I love that it still looks like we will be able to mod models and textures. All is looking great on this front.
I think they should be in the item descriptions or something, otherwise it will be hard to figure out. That would be different than SotN, but that wouldn't bother me. I don't think all weapons need this.
I like all of them. I think the pig is a bit goofy, but that's ok. I think basic morte can be killed too easily before it has a chance to attack. The archers are similar. Renaming Amy to Ghost is good because they probably used Amy elsewhere. The demons that are named after the Goetia should be the best ones, and that was an odd choice to use Amy on that enemy last time.
They all were interesting. Playing around and upgrading them will be fun and add a lot of variety. I love the frog can be summoned on the ceiling or toward the camera. That makes it my favorite shard.
I love all of it. I think the background look great. I was fine with the graphics overall until I saw shots of previous builds and was reminded of how good it could be. They should strive for something better than we have ever seen for the project. Move forward, not backwards!

To some people that questioned the number of weapon types and said there are others. These are the official types shown in the demo when you use the "Sort" option at the equipment menu. You can choose ot see only weapons of a certain type. Knives are labeled as Short Swords, while Axes are labeled as Great Swords.

XombieMikeYes it is. If they don't want to create more types, they could reword them. Short Swords could be "Short weapons" or "Light Weapons" while "Great Swords" could be "Great Weapons" or "Heavy Weapons". That would be generic enough, i believe.
