Why did they change great sword animation? My guess is exactly because of the claimh solais. There wasn't much of a point in using anything else, as it was clearly the best weapon, so that was probably their way of balancing it. Yes, but it becomes impractical in bashdash crouch cancelling play through.

Personally, broken weapons are useful in particular situations, so I'm for it. If I'm trying to farm for an rare item, having a broken weapon speeds up the process a little bit. I wouldn't use it on a boss or general game play. For example, in SOTN, I only used the Alucard shield or Crissaegrim on the Final Guard when trying to get the Gods Garb. Using any of this during normal game play ruins the fun, so I would only use those in very particular situations as I had previously given the example for.

I would like some 'broken' things at the end game, but that is about it. Like many have already said, if you get something too early it trivializes the game and takes away the challenge. Conversely, If you are trying to farm a particular rare drop, but it takes ages to kill the monster, it also ruins the fun.
Something like a special gun that has homing bullets would be entertaining. Or a minigun. Maybe even a flamethrower...now that is just crazy and would probably be a shard power anyway.
Something crazy powerful at the endgame would be an amusing find.
Unique new game plus unlocks would also be nice. Like a special shard that has the chance to turn enemies into eggplants. It could be called "Nightmare of Neptune."
Jokes aside, something to improve replayability never hurts.

Yea I definitely want them in the game.
That said, I like broken items where its brokenness is not immediately evident. The shield rod, for example, took me a while to experiment with and figure out. Same with the duplicator. Even though I had a certain sense that it had potential and it certainly was pricey, it didn't really click until I picked up a Power of Sire, which by itself is not broken either. So yeah, certain items being broken but only when used in the right combination with other items is appealing.
Other items that are just by themselves broken are fine also, but I would prefer to have them unavailable in the first playthrough. Keep that stuff in new game plus land.

There were no really broken items or skills in Dawn of Sorrow, But Intelligence build with Une-Alura Une-Lilith/Stolas created a monstrosity that melted bosses in seconds. That was pretty broken for a game without overpowered tricks, and it was still quite fun.

I'd prefer no overpowered weapons or combos. I agree that the many ways to make Symphony extra easy is not quite fun for me. If anything, being able to level up a Muramasa that far or have combos that can beat the toughest bosses within seconds, even if you're at a low level is kinda embarrassing, if you ask me. I'm glad that was done away with it.

I tend to prefer the examples of Claimh Solais & the Death Ring as "broken" options. You'd still be limited by magic usage (for the former's special attack) and being forced to constantly dodge by equipping the latter (but the risk is clearly worth it).
Though I don't personally want it to get Crissaegrim/Valmanway levels of broken, I did have an idea for a powerful weapon in the past; a Wind-imbued spear called "Hræsvelgr". (I had the idea that this spear would be enchanted with powerful gales, enabling it to strike more than once per button-press, and it could create cyclones as a special attack)

Claimh Solais & the Death Ring are not broken at all. Death Ring is broken if you have two + max out element points + max level + double damage dominus glyph I think AOS chaos ring is quite broken, wonder why it is not on the list
Broken equipment is definitely needed in game to make it rewarding. If I spent over 200 hours in game, I feel like I should be able to eliminate boss in a few seconds.

Right, endgame stupidity to help you quickly grind out completion.
It'd be cool if there was a way to resurrect bosses and fight them again.

I don't want any actually broken abilites in the game. If an ability allows you to just breeze right past any challenge with a special attack or something, I think it should be hit with a nerf bat. Otherwise, it'll run the big risk of trivializing all the other gameplay styles, or if the game is designed with the ability in mind, ruin all the other styles.
That said, having some powerful abilities, weapons or combos that are unlocked at the end or require quite a bit of setup to get working and are high-risk / high-reward or have a downside (eg. eats mana or HP and requires resource management as a result) does sound like a great idea. Not so overpowering that they override everything else, but still allow dedicated players to have powerful tools at their disposal. Again, I just hope one of them won't become the only tool.

I realized having a DPS weapon like the Valmanway with a drawback, like maybe, a one-of-a-kind multi-hit weapon that loses power, if you just blindly kill too many enemies could be fair. This way, there can also be more strategy for speedruns.
In my humble opinion, having overly strong weapons can take away from the atmosphere of a game. In this case, it ruins the "can our hero brave the odds?" vibe, eventually, for those that need atmosphere.
Back to what I was saying earlier about combos, even as a special prize, I felt that Soma's Chaos ring and Jonathan + Charlotte's Magus ring might make a new game + a bit too easy, as your magic regenerates like Majin Buu. Like, some may remember using the Alura une + Chaos ring combo for intense HP regeneration in Aria of Sorrow.
Heck, back when I was still doing competitive runs, I suggested to a TG ref that the Chaos ring in Aria would honestly take too much of the difficulty away to be an interesting speed run. Some would probably be all, "ugh..., he starts the run with the super steroid and never removes it. What's the point? There's so little danger with it that it might as well be a super easy 'hold your hand' mode."
Not trying to sound condescending to those who do like overpowered weapons, regeneration and combos, I'm just saying that some of us who do prefer balanced gear want to feel a sense of accomplishment, rather than having a thinly hidden free ticket to victory.

I agree with Key, though I'm not against things like the Chaos Rings. To obtain those kind of items, you didn't have to grind an enemy or find it somewhere, but you had to complete an enormous task. Chaos Ring in Aria of Sorrow basically means "You played it all and obtained 100% of the souls, so you know the game inside and out. You've earned the right to have fun with everything overpowered". I'm fine with that. I'm not fine with options that overshadow anything else at any said point of the game, so not necessarily something OP per se. I don't want to have in the first let's say 5 hours of the game a weapon/shard that surpasses the DPS and utility of anything else by a long shot. I'd have NO reason to use anything else in that case.
