- RIP the small Decarabia version. - I do not know if I can manage to pledge any more in this short amount of time. - Fangamer gonna have a hard time fixing all the mails since those manage-id-keys are easily broken and needs to be refreshed. - No info about prequel bit-version. 8, 16 or 32 still unknown. - Prequel lore change. Not as if that matter, its just a mini-game. I can see it totally as a Game & Watch thing. (1-bit?) - Mods confirmed... For Resident Evil 4.
I give this update a 3 out of 10, 4 of which went down to economical reasons here, so I guess.. It should be 7 out of 10 then.

Whoo! Just updated my survey. I'll be getting that spin-off for the same systems I want the main game for.
It's also nice to know that there's a Decarabia enemy in the game. So it's basically similar to the "Buer", but it's chained to a wall rather than totally free-rolling.

The update does say this: "There have been some changes from the time we started the Kickstarter campaign; originally, the mini-game was supposed to be a story that took place 10 years prior to the main game, but we've decided to have it take place in a different part of the lore. The story for the mini-game was developed based on the world of Bloodstained, but it should be enjoyed separately as a spin-off rather than a prequel story. We will have more details very soon, so please look forward to it."From this information alone, I'd guess that it's still canon.

This update is more "functional", it is good to show important information and small bits of the game. To it: ABOUT THE QUEST SYSTEM
The Quest System is really close to how it was on Order of Ecclesia. Although i like that idea, i must complain that it looks "too much" like Order of Ecclesia. Both games had female leads, dressed in blue, with a village in distress whose villagers are in need of help through quests and it is also the place where the shop is. I rarely criticize Bloodstained and i expected them to put the quests at the village when it was first announced, but now that i know how it will work, i can't say it isn't a small bummer. I know Bloodstained is a spiritual sucessor of Castlevania, but it really feels like Order of Ecclesia now, more than ever.
ABOUT THE RETRO PREQUEL SPIN-OFF GAME
I can tell many will feel bad about this, but this kind of decision happens all the time on game-making. You decide to do X, and close to finishing, you realize X isn't good and needs to change. I totally understand and compreehend that they probably have a reason of why turning the prequel mini-game into a spin-off game. But that means the game's canonicity is...debatable. And that's...weird. Debating canon about a universe that doesn't even exist yet, since Bloodstained wasn't released yet. ABOUT DECARABIA
Although i liked how Decarabia was at the sample video of the past, i can't say i dislike this version. It looks wicked and although it doesn't seem to pose a big threat, it will work wonders as a gimmick enemy. After Dullahammer head filling the void for "flying pest enemy", it makes sense for Decarabia to be turned from that, to this. CLOSING COMMENTS
I think this new update...will not be taken lightly. The deadlines are okay, but the rest of the information, such as the change of the mini-game from prequel to spin-off, Decarabia changes and such, this will be...interesting. I expect a hot debate. The dev team must prepare themselves. That's all folks!

The overall similarities between the Bloodstained quest system and the one in OOE doesn't bother me as much as what they're showing for the actual quests. While they have their place to a degree, I hope the majority of the quests are more involved that just your basic fetch quests, and go murder X number of X type of bad guys.
I'm not sure how I feel about the prequel being changed. I guess I still don't know enough about it to be anything other than indifferent to that bit of news. I think once we find out who the protagonist is going to be and such I'll have a better formed opinion.

Cool update! Here's what I think:
New enemy! I like the Decarabia design a lot! Looks super creepy and evil. I also like that it's a physics-object reacting to your hits against it. Some more HP on it to capitalize on that would be good I think. I love the idea with the chain, especially when it hangs from the roof. The one at the bottom is kind of like a Mario-Chain-Chomp but with actual physics. There's one thing that I think needs some improvement here and that's the super weak feeling of killing these guys. Why are the physics not enabled on the killing blow? I think they should be enabled, the chain should break and after the enemy flies away, you can do the dissolve-shader-thingy. That would make killing them much more impactful and satisfying. Right now it's more satisfying to deliver regular, non-lethal hits than the final blow because the physical reaction is so much stronger.
Quests! I like that the villagers give you personal quests but these revenge-quests.... I'm not sure if I interpreted it correctly but it seems like you could just kill any of this type of enemy and the guy is considered "avenged". I don't think that this is how revenge works / should work. It should have to be one specific target, as in "these specific 4 demons killed my friend, find them and kill them, here's a description of where you'll have to look for them:[...]". Not only would that suit the revenge-narrative much more but it would also feel more like a quest. It would also break up the regular gameplay by giving you something specific to look for and by then setting up pre-designed encounters of certain enemies spawning in a certain area for a certain mission. Plus it would feel a lot more personal! I know it's more work but if you just have to kill any random enemy of a type a bunch of times it just feels like an afterthought.
Mini-game About the mini-game... I don't actually know what to say. Is the change welcome or unfortunate? Who knows? We just don't have enough information about it.

nice little update. i usually fanboy this game but this update in particular felt a bit dissapointing. i must agree with Pure Miriam about the quest system and village looking WAY to similar to the things we saw in Order of ecclesia and while i don't think thats a bad thing, honestly, i would prefer something more original. DECARABIAOkay im not a game developer or designer but to my eyes that decarabia looks boring. i understand that you guys are trying to make the demons look more realistic or maybe even accurate to the Ars goetia but i really hope that decarabia isn't final (if it is, well then. No game can be perfect) its death animation looks unimpressive and to simplistic and... Fine! i wanted this , not that ugly humanoid freak. okay thats the first monster that dissapoints me but theres other 100 so yeah! thanks for the update. RIP

Great update! looking at how they're ending the survies next month got me bumped how close we are getting. The side quest names caught me offguard, I was in a coffee shop while reading this and I uncontrollably started laughing because this is most definitely one of the best easter eggs I have ever seen!
Let's talk about the mini game, I know that many people will be disappointed with the decision they have taken regarding the game by changing it from a prequel title into something like a spin-off. The mini game would have featured Zangetsu as the protagonist character and from what we have gotten so far, we can already tell that Zangetsu went through a lot in his past which can't be justified or shown in one "mini" prequel title so maybe they just decided to keep that prequel story for a potential upcoming full title or an expansion because we live in an age where a game can be many games at the same time!

Angel-Corlux Just reporting, the Japanese paragraph about side-mission of Lindsay is misplaced in the "Retro spin-off game" section. One thing that bothers me is going up/down stairs in the video, I suspect that the team is using a normal running animation as a placeholder or the stair itself is not finished yet, but watching Miriam's boots sinking into the stair floor is kinda weird.

Mini game update? What exactly did we learn about it? The mini game we know nothing about and haven't even seen is different now. Great?
A boring looking menu with boring sounding quests. Plus it's a mockup so it's not even what we're going to get? What's the point?
Also a boring picture of copypasted villagers. I know its supposed to be concept art but surely they have something to show that looks better than the monthly fanart they feature.
Decarabia looks cool but its basically Buer. I imagine we will get at least 300 enemies in the final game. Why not show one that doesn't look similar to the ones we already saw? At least it wasn't another generic flying one like the pig, bat, gargoyle and harpy. It's a shame that we've seen such few enemies and we're already seeing palette swaps. Thankfully Decarabia isn't as bad as Okyupete. They shouldn't be afraid to show cooler enemies than rats and toads because of spoilers. They could show a different enemy every single update for the rest of the year and it would only be 9 enemies out of hundreds.
I would honestly be happier getting a high resolution version of that new Vepar footage they showed at that one Texas convention. Or perhaps the one with the Buer kick. At least its something that will be in the actual game I backed.

I imagine Dr. Simon was an unusual man with an aversion to pants, but still a damned good medical professional capable of whipping up a cure for just about anything. At some point, he may have even contracted a fatal illness, only to drag himself out of bed and fix his own terminal condition. Some patients may have even sworn he had his own theme music following him around. Hopefully we'll get the chance to avenge him and his what-must-have-been fabulous hair soon.

I have to say that the various menus and the quests in that mockup are a bit boring indeed in my opinion. I hope for a more stylyzed menu and more fleshed out quests in the final game. OoE's model is gopd, great in fact (it's my favorite IGAvania) but part of the budget could be/could have been implemented to have more "quest like" quests instead of basic fetch and killing quests. What I see now is not exactly bad, but I expected a bit more Regarding Decarabia: eh, I agree with estebant. It does look very much like Buer, and while that's not surprising considering other IGAvanias I still stand by my conviction that it would have made a more original and memorable Medusa head like enemy instead of a Buer variation. I'd love to see as much variety as possible in the final game. Regarding the prequel game I'd see it's fine either way, we didn't know much about it in the first place so it's fine if it gets changed. I have no doubts it will still be canon, however. Overall, very practical update. I feel we're getting close to the final stretch and I'm excited for that.
