So a lot to talk about/comment on here...probably main thing to me though, I see Dominique, odd as it may be to most, as a positive and unusual depiction of a character - nothing to do with her looks or even her gender itself, but that she is by all indications seen so far as a positive religious character. I'm aware of the irony presented here in me saying this lol, but yes, characters that follow "God" especially in the monotheistic fashion are most often the villains or force of evil in video games, especially Japanese ones. I talked to IGA about this in person, how one of the main reasons I connected to Castlevania as well as I did was because of how crosses, holy water and holy magic had power in the game, with the inferred power of God being a force of good. That's fairly unheard of in most other things, and I concede understandably so because of the religious abuse of power that religion has brought about in history. A recent point of frustration for me was how Castlevania 3's story was changed in the Netflix show to push that narrative, because Sypha was originally a hunter from the church. You could say she was the original "Dominique" archetype. She was fighting and blessed with the power of the spirits AND holy magic from the church, raised by them as an orphan, but the guys behind the show wrote that out for the evil church story. I get that, it's a real history thing, but in creative media it's just everywhere, and such an easy target. Especially with the recent advent of grimdark leans and "everything sucks" stories. Dominique might change, I don't know - Fryda says that she starts one place and ends up another, but another example of this type of character for me is Ky Kiske from Guilty Gear and something similar happens with him, and yet he keeps his faith. And that game is verrry Japanese. So, tl;dr on that, for me Dominique is a refreshing character and it's disappointing if folks see her just as a blonde white bimbo. Fryda gives the air instead of just joking about that, and I hope so, it'd suck if she wasn't into playing the character she was cast for. And speaking of, I'm not sure she answered my question haha, but maybe she couldn't (how/why she got Domi). Might have just fell to her, don't know. OTHERWISE, beating out 200-300 other women minimum for parts, that's crazy. I said quite out loud "HOLY SHHH" to that. That's nuts. It's wonderful and interesting insight on the sausage, and of course...the struggle against the sausage? I learned a lot about the business there. About her oral surgery/teeth situation, that's wild lol, but I can identify somewhat. Somehow lately I got a periodontal cyst that seems to have somehow changed my bite and it annoys the piss out of me, and had surgery to peel a flap back up there for curettage to scrape the stuff out, a procedure they made up on the spot lol. Not sure what that's about. On vision, I'm a bit younger (32), but I was born legally blind, so with people on the vision problems. I wear big ol' lenses, but they don't do a whole lot to correct the problem - I'm not driving even with them on, BUT, Mike can attest that you wouldn't know. I can do everything else great, even competitive fighting games. yay Her features/facial structure is gorgeous though, I definitely didn't get any impression of sunken in features or whatnot. Her look and personality struck me as a fierce Viking woman or something lol. But wow, Mexican. I think Fryda would love Indivisible, it has a really great cast of diverse characters. A sister game to Bloodstained, being a 505-produced crowdfunded indie game. Not sure where it's at on voice work.

Come in here to read through what this is about, and find myself under attack by a demon, go figure. I'll check the video later today myself cause I've been looking for something new to watch.

Best episode yet! Fryda is a very interesting person isn't she? I came here to post just that. Mike had a bit of trouble keeping up with her but that's not on him, she's just that interesting and quick thinking. I couldnt get enough of this conversation. Kudos to you Mike for having her over. Fascinating episode. I had no idea who she was beyond her voicing Sara Ryder and now Dominique. And just as a side note to Mike: representation does matter. Its just that us white dudes are so used to seeing white dudes everywhere we don't feel the same way as, say, women or black ppl felt when they saw Wonder Woman or Black Panther on-screen respectively. Something similar happened to me when I watched Coco (wonderful movie, you should all go see it, and bring tissues!). I'm a white dude but I'm also Mexican (yes, it happens) and seeing my culture being so exquisitely and lovingly represented felt me with glee, pride, and excitement. Seeing a Hollywood movie set in Mexico that doesnt involve drugs, cartels, violence or what have you was a breath of fresh air so much so that Coco became the highest grossing film of all time in Mexico. Again, good job, Mike!

Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sure representation matters. Fryda and I might not have the same perspective on such social issues, but I'm glad she and I could have a discussion that included those things and remain respectful. It was a pleasure talking with her. I know that polarizing topics can distance people, but it's my hope that this conversation can serve as an example that even if people see things differently, it's still OK to talk about them. I'm glad the community is remaining positive even when these things often bring out controversy. Edit: Oh, also: Good job on slaying that demon, Jowy Avilon!

not one to care about what social views or politics people have in their personal lives, but with Fryda's social views being the polar opposite of who she voices as Dominique I just hope it didn't leak out onto the character.

I would say that is the “acting part” of her Job. I remain positive until I can finally see the results of her work.

She wouldn't be a good actor if this was the case now would she? Have a little faith. And by the looks of it you didn't listen to the podcast if you came here to say that. She didn't spoke badly of Dominique herself, she says she just happens to be a well endowed woman just like herself in real life.

There's no need to accuse him of not listening to the podcast to make your point there. Let's keep things as respectful as possible here guys.
