SteamAlso it's co-published by DANGEN Entertainment, which Ben Judd is involved with. The pixel art is awesome and the game mechanic seems interesting (it has some kind of puzzle element I think), I'll definitely give it a shot. Screenshot:

Man, I don't usually do this, but if Ben Judd was involved, maybe I should buy this game immediately for full price (rather than waiting for a sale) as a way of showing my support. If it's been in development so long, the dev deserves a few extra bucks his way anyways

I went ahead and bought Iconoclasts this morning. It looks like it's up my right up my alley, I heard good things about it from Halfcoordinated, and heard about how Konjak worked on it for nearly 10 years, so I decided to buy it new as a sign of support.
Plus, I don't want to make the same mistake I did with Undertale where I ended up taking a year get around to playing it (and still haven't reached the best ending), I want to try and play Iconoclasts now and experience the whole journey with everyone else.

I beat my first run on Standard (I prefer calling it the "easy" mode tho), 13+hrs with 73% collectible.
There are a lot of throwback to classics like Cave Story and Metal Slug series. Especially CS, one of the gun looks like Spur, the ending "cast" roll is exactly the same as Cave Story's ending lol. Intense fight with big bosses (usually half the screen), colorful and detailed environment, control is good, using the wrench is fun, all in all it's a very polished game. There are some nitpick about gameplay though, some of the bosses or even mob enemies in the later game needs a certain sequence (i.e. use counter-attack first, then use gun A or wrench) to defeat, and the game sometimes doesn't give any hint, leave the player to trial and error.
The weak point of Iconoclasts IMO is in plot and writing. I'm no expert on writing in English though, but the writing is... well, let's say it's hard to parse at least. Plot-wise, I don't know whether these were left out on purpose but I feel there are too many vacancies. Not the kind of vacancies like W.D. Gaster in Undertale that initiates fan works, these are vacancies that the game NEEDS to explain, especially for a dark game like this. Yes, this game is dark despite it's colorful visual, or even down right brutal IMO. It features a bunch of broken people, and actually "break" one of the main character in front of you. That being said, I do like all character it features, but without a consistent plot, the weight of those character falls nowhere, which is a pity.
I'll give my grade anyway: Graphics: 5/5 Music: 3/5 Gameplay: 4/5 Plot: 3/5 Volume: Medium

I beat Iconoclasts earlier this week. Got 90% of the collectibles before heading to the final boss.
I had fun with it. I can see myself playing it again. I'd safely recommend buying it full price.
But I also felt its flaws were highly visible, most notably the unclear story that feels like it's written for the characters in-universe rather than written for the player to experience, unclear directions on how to switch characters during specific events (AND THIS IS INTRODUCED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BOSS FIGHT), and a boss fight that tries to be a 2D version of "The End" from MGS3 but ended up being slow and just... not fun.

Finished it today with 83%, i give 7/10, i was not expecting much from this game, but I was surprised by it, worth it.
