Even though this may have already been established by the fans that the atmosphere would more than likely be like that Castlevania had, but with a fresh new outlook. Then I thought of this while I was considering the artwork, level design, environments, and setting for the story in which may or may not dictate the atmosphere of the game. In Castlevania the setting was in Wallachia, the atmosphere of a haunting nights-cape down the countryside which will eventually take you to the Castle. For Bloodstained, correct me if I am wrong, has more of London setting. When I think of London in a dark action horror genre, I think something around the lines of the Nightmare Creatures game, A Penny Dreadful series, or the 2010 Wolfman movie. These two settings holds a lot of similarities in terms of atmosphere, but they're both completely different. What do you guys think? How would you like to see the atmosphere in Bloodstained or what do you think the setting will feel more like? |

Since Gebel's Castle was summoned from Hell itself, complete with hordes of demons, I would not be surprised if the "Japanese Caverns" in question (as I've also said in two past threads) are a reference to Yomotsuhirasaka.
The area surrounding Gebel's Castle is sure to have an "evil" atmosphere, being set around the time that Northern Europe's skies were reddened & darkened due to the Laki volcanic disaster.

When I was a kid, I stayed up and watched the 1964 horror film The Masque of the Red Death. I remember being spooked out by the chillingly, queer atmosphere that was consistent throughout. After the film finished, I went to bed wondering if something was waiting for me behind the curtains once I switched the light off. Funnily enough, the story took place in a castle and Bloodstained kinda reminds me of it. So, from what I've seen so far, I'm kinda half expecting an atmosphere in Bloodstained that's rather similar to this sinister film.

I prefer scented candles, strawberry white zinfandel, and Barry Manilow. But seriously I like my castles baroque, gardens immense, ceilings vaulted, crypts dank, dungeons dark, statues terrifying, just like the art, halls ostentatious, libraries hallowed. |

Some will be dark and gothic, but others will be more Eastern in theme, and who knows, some might even be whimsical. I recently finished Aria of Sorrow and it was my first time playing it. The "Inner Quarters" section for me was one of the most memorable; when you first enter you meet a maid who greets you with a polite bow before proceeding to attack. For whatever reason this made me laugh and stuck in my head since she appeared completely unthreatening and was jarringly different from the usual Castlevania monsters. Even her soul power-up gives you a demonic vacuum cleaner. I hope there are similar light-hearted enemies in this game. |

I hope to see a blend. All the good stuff that they think will fit is the best. And with a smart twist to it, it can be original if they handle it differently than others.
I didn't see too much of the London at night during 1800 on any screenshots but it's probably there. All fused with inspirations.
The castle itself could be whatever they feel like. If it's shifting like a creature of chaos, again, then I think it changes accordingly to its owner or whoever calls it based on fear, anger and all those other pure but negative (?) feelings one might have.

Castlevania games while they have similarities in atmosphere they vary in terms of seriousness and the Gothic horror aspect of Castlevania. The score in every game reflects that too. Castlevania Lament of Innocence has probably the highest horror and dark aspect of Castlevania games, it's night time the whole time, hardly if any humor, the characters don't have hardly anything to be happy about and no matter what the story is a sad tragedy. The music represents that was well. Symphony of the Night is in that category as well, maybe not as dark. Order of Ecclesia not as much but still darker than Portrait of Ruin and Dawn of Sorrow. This two games are more lighthearted have more humor and don't feel as dark as the other ones especially since DoS is set in the future and with all the modern aspects about the setting and the characters loses a lot of the Gothic horror part. Bloodstained I feel should go for a mix between LoI, SOTN and OoE.

Don't forget Bloodborne. The atmosphere in that game is kind of the atmosphere I expect in Bloodstained...to a degree. |

As for bloodstained. Yeah alot of stuff looks good on the outside, but Bloodstained doesn't really do interiors quite like I want BS to be like.
