So, Metal Gear Survive. I know, I know. With the game coming out Frebruary 20th in North America (with Europe getting the game on the 22nd) for PC, XBox One and PlayStation 4, Konami decided to put out a Single-player gameplay trailer. The trailer shows off the familiar stealth elements of Metal Gear Solid V (along with the base-building aspect), mixed in with some cutscene footage. At this point, and at a $39.99 price, it just might be worth it to see what Konami’s “don’t give a sh*t” attitude amounts to with the game. I mean, who knows? Maybe the game will be fun, even if it’s a soulless attempt to use what Hideo Kojima created, and makes no sense within the framework of the series. If you do want it, the pre-order bonus comes with some swanky cosmetics for your soldiers. That’s cool, I guess.

The real problem of this project, other than the shameless usage of the Metal Gear name while having little to do with the saga apart from the engine and some "stealth", is that it clearly is a mash-up of lots of elements which are "trendy" today, seen in countless AAA title and early access piles of garbage who inexplicably had their moment of glory. "Survival"? Check. Crafting? Check. Zombies? Check. "Resource management"? Check. This elements are so overused that the concept is already boring from the beginning, and there are countless better, more creative games to play.
That said, what I wrote is my opinion only. If one wishes to purchase the game that's fine, he may even find it fun. But I already decided my stance on this game, and I simply don't feel that the phrase "wait until it's out to judge" is valid for me here.

There are lessons that Konami still needs to learn, and that's only if the following two things happen: 1) Metal Gear Survive sells poorly. 2) Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night sells surprisingly well.
Even then... I'm not sure Konami will care beyond adding new Metal Gear-themed "Bomber" characters to Super Bomberman R.

konami will never court gamers seriously again until pachinko and mobile are either deemed illegal or the bubble pops so bad that they have to scramble to find new ways of making money right that minute, and since EA royally screwed the pooch on lootboxes and mt with their greed konami wont be able to go that route at least until the dumpster fire dies down, which is a sad thing for any of the devs under konami that still want to make full games
i think if survive ever does come out, itll be obvious there were lootboxes and mt planned but had to be yanked to avoid getting EAd and huge chunks of the game will be just missing, and lb/mt will seep back in through dlc

Beyond how well Super Bomberman R has actually done, I don't think Konami deserves my money, so I'd be okay with pirating Metal Gear Survive if I had the chance.

From what I gather Belgium and possibly Australia have deemed lootboxes as gambling and are proposing regulations.

i will say this, i hope they dont ban them altogether, because if a couple places ban them EA/whoever will just tell that country to fuck off (like they dont do that already in australia...) which really only hurts the gamers there, or theyll pull a pachinko/mobile and have the boxes be buyable through an ingame currency you buy with real money
the lootboxes/mt/sp/dlc arent even the core of the issue (horse armor and overwatch may have started it but others ran with it), runaway marketing budgets (codmw2 marketing was 4x the cost of the game, and many AAA games marketing can easily match the cost ot make), prior success necessitating inflated projections (we made a billion off this one game, so obviously every game going forward MUST make us at least 2 or its a complete failure), monopolization through brand deals and buyouts (dEAd studio, inactivision, ₫؋$₦€¥), the unofficial retail hardpoint of $60, and probably several other things i dont know about create this gigantic mess, and you cant even know where the line actually sits because suits will say theyre necessary because costs and then turn around and say removing them wont impact their earnings to investors, which lie is the actual lie and which one is damage control?

I'm so glad Bloodstained has 505 Games and they as a company/Angel seem quite averse to such nonsense
Blazblue x Tag Battle just yesterday came out with a very controversial release decision with 20 characters at launch, 20 DLC, and announcing this almost 6 whole months before release. It's perplexing they would drop that on consumers up-front so far out to begin with, and it just...seems like a bad idea all the way around. It doesn't take much digging to see that the base game only includes 2-3 new characters amongst otherwise existing assets, too. It's like what Street Fighter x Tekken did, but worse in its own kind of way.
I think I know -why- they did it (a significant part of ASW needed work because a portion of the BB team wouldn't be working on Dragonball Fighter Z), but it looks/sounds like an internal resource problem or just a bad idea.

I'm so glad Bloodstained has 505 Games and they as a company/Angel seem quite averse to such nonsense I think so too; Angel and 505 Games have given off "good vibes" so far and they seem to be a perfect fit for Bloodstained. This was my first and to-date only project I've backed on Kickstarter and I really hope it is successful.
