I wonder if those two areas, the one in the left, and the closed space on the right, will have items to be picked up... Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has given us a new update, most probably the last one of this year, showing a new area and a new enemy, with a new music too. Around the internet, you can spot more or less the same reactions: a bunch of people pleased, some people concerned about jump animation or graphics, among other things. As always, each update prompt us with questions and speculations and that's exactly what this thread is for. Here goes: 1) The new area (called here "Japanese Caverns" for the sake of simplicity) shows off what it seems to be catacombs and caverns with a japanese motiff to them. Considering Bloodstained's plot, Gebel pulled the Castle from hell itself, and the castle has an area shaped like an asian reference. Do you think that, maybe, hell has symbolic reference to all regions in the world? Or maybe Gebel reshaped the castle itself, with it's powers to resemble something important to him? Or maybe (2) the boss of that area is the one responsible for the area's motiff and looks? 2) Overall, Igavania games normally have more than one cavern (such as Symphony of the Night with Underground cavern and catacombs, Aria of Sorrow with Underground Reservior and Underground Cemetery), it is almost a given that Japanese Caverns will be one of the game's caverns / underground scenario. Do you hope for a more "traditional looking" cavern for Bloodstained or do you think the Japanese Caverns are good enough for the game, if they are spacious and varied? 3) What kind of enemies do you expect to be at those Japanese Caverns? Do you expect to see any enemy already revealed on there too? 4) The Japanese Caverns has a really unique music, quite different from almost anything Igavanias ever had. It doesn't sound like a Igavania traditional song at all. Do you hope the game has more "non-Igavania style" songs like this one, or do you expect the game to follow the more traditional route of Igavanias songs? 5) What boss (if any) do you expect for this area? 6) Regarding Plume Purma enemy, do you believe it will not be a "full-fledged demon", like Morte and thus, will have no Shard, or do you expect it to have a Shard? If so, what type and kind of Shard would you expect for him? That's all folks!

1. Not a clue
2. I hope there’s a different underground stage. The music doesn’t strike me as a watery type vibe for those types of locations.
3. I honestly am not sure. This is a very different location and feels kinda out of place for the location of the game. Still interesting tho.
4. I don’t really get a Michiru Yamane. I’d say I hope for more traditional but even Sotn has a diverse OST. I think it’s just this one feels more left field to me.
5. You know he answer to this...... he has a katana as a weapon.
6. Something tells me shard. Maybe a stat boosting shard?

Pure Miriam 1. Dunno... not sure that there will be a justification in-game, but I would think so, seeing as how it is from a very different culture. It really makes me wonder if we'll see motifs from other countries as well. I would expect the boss to somehow reflect the area's motif - but that's a given. 2. Depends on how spacious and varied they are. I would also like a different, more green-ish, swampy-ish cavern, if I could have it my way. 3. Since the setting is noticeably different from others, I would expect to get "Japanese" versions (color schemes and/or model tweaks) of existing enemies and maybe a couple of enemies exclusive to the region. 4. Actually, it didn't really sound that different to me, because the biggest difference is not the rock beats (we've had them in IGAvania BGMs before), but the Japanese vibe to it - which would be odd not to have, since the motif is Japanese. It kinda reminded me of the music in the 2D Shinobi games. 5. I dunno... Enma ? Or maybe one of those fire-wheel type enemies? Personally, I'd like to see a Rokurokubi, though. 6. Dunno/don't care. As long as it drops a roast when you kill it with a fire attack, we're good.

1) Yes I think in this world, all the hells and underworlds are connected so I would love to see the Egyptian theme come back like in SotN 2) I want to see more Caverns in the game I don't care if they are "traditional" as long as they are cool... maybe we can find Hephaestus' forge... to me that would be awesome and maybe we could get his hammer for a weapon. 3) I think Mortes will be everywhere maybe some of those wolves... but really I would like to fight a hopping umbrella monster lol...imagine the drop or maybe you can use it as a weapon as a rare drop... the flavor text can say something like: "after getting pummeled by Miriam the demon decided to become her weapon..." or something like that lol 4) I wonder if that is really the music in the stage... I don't know why but I agree with CastleDan it does not sound like Michiru Yamane's stuff... but since we got so little of it, maybe the music changes later on... 5) A Yojimbo type character... (like the one in final fantasy... or something like that with the hat and everything) 6) I hope it has a shard and it could be a summon... that you can ride lol... but I am with dareka it should drop ham and chicken wings... maybe bbq style lol

Or maybe (2) the boss of that area is the one responsible for the area's motiff and looks?
It would be nice if its boss-related, but I doubt it. Yeah, it coming from hell I think it needs to take earths energy and style to represent itself. It might be random, or it would possibly take sacred and unholy places, strong elements from both sides. This if the whole theme of "hell" is that of christian mythology. About angels and demons, and if there is a devil in there somewhere. It could also be just illusions, shaping to whatever you think about, either by the guest who enters or as you said - Gebel. But it would be odd for Gebel to imagine an area with a Japanese style, unless the shape of the castle take place in a subconscious mind. If he seen or heard about Zangetsu, this might be if so the reason. It could be built upon emotions and fears that of Gebel, like a leech.
I really don't mind. Either way. Variation is nice, and if there is some kind of random generated areas, that would be cool too.
3) What kind of enemies do you expect to be at those Japanese Caverns? Do you expect to see any enemy already revealed on there too?
They will be random, not Japanese themes, unless one or two. That area seems bigger than what already been shown. I doubt it has Zangetsu in it. I mean, that game come to destroy the place from the outside. He is not created inside the castle, that wouldn't make sense.
I like the music. No need to go traditional. Its a new ip.
5) What boss (if any) do you expect for this area?
None. Maybe Doppelganger, if it is still a play on Gebels subconscious. It is like dreams, you blend and take a few stuff all around the place to create a setting and story sometimes. A vivid dream also show details. I think if this is something out of Gebel, it could be a setting of Zangetsu, with Miriam in danger, knowing Zangetsu is a threat. It would make sense to meet a Doppelganger here actually. And it would be a nod towards SOTN, when you meet the Doppelganger again in the reversed castle down in the caverns. Or you just kill a giant Morte, who knows?
6) Regarding Plume Purma enemy, do you believe it will not be a "full-fledged demon", like Morte and thus, will have no Shard, or do you expect it to have a Shard? If so, what type and kind of Shard would you expect for him?
No shard. And it seems like Hell have been frozen. Gebel stole the castle from hell! When pigs fly you know!
Thanks for the fun questions. How about yourself?

Another fine Update question thread; another excuse to type answers in Green TextTM. Without further ado... 1) The new area (called here "Japanese Caverns" for the sake of simplicity) shows off what it seems to be catacombs and caverns with a japanese motiff to them. In Japan's Shinto mythology, their word for the afterlife is Yomi (黄泉), the "yellow wellsprings"... or even interpreted as "world of darkness". The fact that this new stage is a Cavern could very well be a nod to Yomotsuhirasaka (黄泉津平坂), the cavern-entrance to Yomi.
What do you think of this?: XombieMike Mana Angel-Corlux purifyweirdshard 2) Overall, Igavania games normally have more than one cavern (such as Symphony of the Night with Underground cavern and catacombs, Aria of Sorrow with Underground Reservior and Underground Cemetery), it is almost a given that Japanese Caverns will be one of the game's caverns / underground scenario. Do you hope for a more "traditional looking" cavern for Bloodstained or do you think the Japanese Caverns are good enough for the game, if they are spacious and varied? If they represent what I think they might in my answer to #1, it'll certainly be an interesting idea for a large underground cavern area.3) What kind of enemies do you expect to be at those Japanese Caverns? Do you expect to see any enemy already revealed on there too? Anything from possible expies of past Japanese-themed enemies in Castlevania games (very similar to the "Arabaki", "Kyoma", and "Creaking Skull" enemies in GBA titles) to new ones like "Jubokko" (demon tree), "Jorogumo" (similar to the Arachne enemy), "Hasshaku-Sama", "Yuki-Onna", and the like. ^ I even posted a suggestion about something like the "Creaking Skull" in this thread. My personal most favorite enemy from past portable Igavanias (just happens to be Japanese-themed) is Miss Murder.
The "Hasshaku-Sama" enemy idea, in particular, almost makes me wish I backed the Kickstarter campaign at the "Demon Summoner" tier (I could've introduced a yokai from a Japanese urban legend originating on the Internet (2Chan) as an enemy in this game!). Hasshaku-sama could even have a chance to drop a "Hassaku Orange" upon defeat. Just a little pun that I thought was an odd coincidence.
I'm not going to be disappointed if none of these are actual enemies in Bloodstained, but it would be cool to see them all the same.4) The Japanese Caverns has a really unique music, quite different from almost anything Igavanias ever had. It doesn't sound like a Igavania traditional song at all. Do you hope the game has more "non-Igavania style" songs like this one, or do you expect the game to follow the more traditional route of Igavanias songs? I wouldn't be too surprised, because there has been the occasional theme in certain Igavanias that either sound subdued or just different in general compared to Michiru Yamane's usual works (including when she co-composed some tracks with Yuzo Koshiro).& 5) What boss (if any) do you expect for this area? I suspect that the BOSS of this area may be more than just Japanese-themed; certainly not just some random demon. Who knows? Maybe it'll be an interpretation of none other than Izanami herself.6) Regarding Plume Purma enemy, do you believe it will not be a "full-fledged demon", like Morte and thus, will have no Shard, or do you expect it to have a Shard? If so, what type and kind of Shard would you expect for him? It doesn't look like it has crystals on its body... but I never really would've expected a boar with wings.Let's see how this all goes. The green is done for now.

Galamoth I'd imagine that's a pretty solid theory about the entrance to Yomi.
