Pure Miriam - Yeah, I figure you're right. The hair thing is really more of a pipe dream because visual aesthetics, especially those of the main character, matter a lot to me. As I've said elsewhere, in a game where the protagonist is largely silent, their movement and attack animations instead communicate aspects of their character. While I'd love to see a few wisps of Miriam's hair fluttering around as she jumps/fights, I realize that technical and budgetary constraints make that unlikely. Heck, even AAA games like Borderlands 2 which use a cell-shaded look don't have their character's hair move. I'm guessing part of the reason in Bloodstained is also because Miriam rocks a few different hairstyles and outfits, which is very cool. I've always loved that about the Igavania games. It's so disappointing to me in most games that you switch up gear but see no visual difference. I always though it spoke to the quality of the Castlevania titles that unique weapons and gear had a unique look. Alucard Sword vs. Crissaegrim, for instance. Look, at the end of the day, the game looks fantastic and the art direction is stunning, so I'm not going to be dissuaded from playing by what are essentially minor issues. I just miss the era of gorgeous and fluid 2-D animation. I miss Alucard and Shanoa. I can't wait till 2-D reaches a point where it's practical and affordable to offer some of the same lush animation. I feel like we're almost there. You see games like Guilty Gear Xrd and you know it's possible. For the resources they had, Bloodstained is no slouch either. The animations are silky smooth, and from what we've seen, certain weapons, particularly the fire sword, are very impressive.

i think the shadow bug is kinda cool, it likely means miriams equipped weapon is always loaded, just transparent until its activated, that would help cut down on load and speed up attack cycles since youre only toggling opacity/shadow map value rather than loading the weapon from memory each time or preloading it offscreen and moving it into miriams hand (primarily a sprite based technique) upon activation

8 weapon sets to cycle through sounds like a bit much but I'm very much in favor of that, assuming our speculation is correct. With all the variety in skills and weapons I would love to have more than two sets. Back in the DS Castlevanias I ended up having one set for movement and one for combat. It saved a lot of the trouble of reequipping gear constantly but it could've been better. Now if we have 8 we can have one for movement, one for what's comfortable for us, others for whatever comes to mind. A ranged set focused on guns and high speed movement would complement a set that's focused on standing my ground and absorbing damage.

allooutrick If the game ends up having 8 sets, considering Shards & Gear, the strategic possibilities, if the game give us enemies hard and interesting enough for said strategies, can be endless. You can have something like this: Set #1: Default set, with decent weapon and gear and "good-for-all" shards. Set #2: High damage, close range set (Axe or Hammer, with close range powerful shards) Set #3: Long range set (Gun, projectile-focused Shards) Set #4: Mobility set (fast attack weapon, mobility-based Shards) Set #5: Boss set (good weapon and ultra-powerful, high MP consuming Shards) Set #6: Situational set #1(focused on something specific, like protection against status effects or elements) Set #7: Situational set #2 Set #8: Situational set #3 As i said, in order to really do something like this, enemies and the whole game must give us opportunities and the "need" to prepare ourselves like that. Just a brainstorm lol

Thought I saw a strand of her hair move when she fired. Got excited. Checked my eyes. Now am disappoint. Yeah, a lot of folks are complaining about her hair--not a humongous deal, but Angel-Corlux I hope the team knows that hair physics would make Miriam look much nicer, given how much folks liked Alucard's hair back in SoTN Hey you guys, yeah I brought this feedback to the team myself as my own observation way back when I started working at 505, the team definitely knows, and they definitely would like to give her animated / physics enabled hair, right now it's a wish list item if time allows for the necessary polish to achieve this etc. Just letting you know to keep expectations in check. So not bad news, but not a confirmation it's in the game just yet.

Angel-Corlux They could patch stuff like that post launch. Right? We do want to know if patches are coming after or ON launch. So everyone could expect more cosmetics / costumes, bugfixes and balance. I would suggest also each patch had a name instead of numbers (well internally it would be numbers) but name it after the cosmetic or costume. Like this one would be the Hair Patch.

Angel-Corlux cool, i figured hair physics was on a wishlist somewhere for like polish phases, and im willing to bet theyve run some preliminary tests just to see if its even feasible down the line, but with all the focus on getting the meat of the game set in stone and working im really curious to see what other neat little nibbles are coming

I know that the hair moving is something many would love to see (myself included) but i'm really not expecting that. As i said before, moving hair is something really hard to do and that's why most characters with a hair programmed to flow, has their hair tied up as pigtails, ponytails and something like that, to flow like a unified block. Moving a SHORT hair like Miriam's hair is much, much harder and time consuming. I'm sorry to disappoint most of you but really, don't expect that to happen. It's a little detail that not many would notice and that takes a lot of time and resources to do. I'm not trying to turn anyone's wishes down, i'm just being realistic.

Pure Miriam I completely agree, and I understand. As I said above, this was a personal wish, but it would truly be miserably ungrateful of me to take a game this beautiful, which is chock-full of features and gorgeous animation, done on a very modest budget by gaming standards, and whine incessantly about something like hair moving. I've just always been a huge animation guy, so I love the little touches (of which this game already has many) that bring life and personality to the world. Even in its unfinished state, I already credit this team with creating, for my money, the best-looking 2-D side-scroller out there. Yes, there have been others like "Dust," "Sundered," "Hollow Knight," "Ori and the Blind Forest," and "Rayman Legends" that look spectacular, but almost all of them came with limitations. Although the main character in "Dust" was nothing short of a marvel, the designs and animations of pretty much every other character in that game was mediocre. "Sundered" is the best-looking 2-D game I've seen as far as the character animations and effects (particularly the bosses), but the world was unfortunately quite bland overall, with the corridors being one of the more unimpressive copy/paste procedural renders I've seen. Almost none of the rooms beyond a couple of the save/boss rooms were memorable. "Hollow Knight" is very charming but the characters/enemies are very simplistic. This is by no means a bad thing, but you can't fairly compare those to Bloodstained's. "Ori" is probably the most fair comparison to Bloodstained, as the world is rich, detailed, and atmospheric, and the animations are top-notch. The problem is that the enemies are all kind of samish variants of slugs. "Rayman" is perhaps the most comprehensively awesome side-scroller I've ever played. It's HD, the art direction is peerless, the gameplay is excellent, the music is on point. There are a multitude of modes, extras, challenges, etc. What's the problem, then? Nothing. It's just that it was a very high-profile, high-budget Ubisoft game. I have zero doubt that if Iga had the kind of resources that game had, we'd probably see every manner of little "polish" additions like moving hair. The thing is, I can't think of much else they could add to this game that they aren't already, besides just making the already impressive graphics marginally better. It already has a wealth of features, and I'm just thankful we're seeing a SoTN successor at all. I had no hopes that I ever would, and when this game came along, I knew it would be the first project I'd ever crowd-fund. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the hardworking folks throwing together this amazing project. Keep up the outstanding work!

exile Oh, yes, i totally understand you. I'm not saying "don't propose hair animation, it's not gonna happen" or anything of the sort. I just don't believe they can do it now. But it would be great. And i agree to you, Bloodstained looks amazing in a level that i personally wasn't expecting when the kickstarter started. If Miriam ends up without hair animation AND If Bloodstained manages to be a franchise (IGA already said they plan to do at least one more game, if it is related to Bloodstained or not we don't know) we can try to make a campaign for that before character concepts, like "The hero/heroine of the next game must have hair animation!" so they can already design the character with that in mind and using the tools to make it easier (such as the trick of long / thick strands / pigtail or ponytail and stuff like that).

About the hair.
Said it before, and say it again.
I think the hair is semi-crystallized and this is why it's stiffer.
If it moves or not, I really do not care, but if it will move. All different hair must get each a special time and effort to make them work because the shape and length might be changed greatly.

Enkeria There is a definite truth to your point on this matter. Miriam's hair was in-fact changed as a result of the "magi-crystal curse" she now suffers. I wouldn't be surprised if it involved more than just her hair-color. She originally had blonde hair; and now, for whatever reason due to her Curse, it changed to black w/ light brown 'gradient' hair.

Are we going to see date-related items, like halloween pumpkins or valentine chocolates, added to the game? At the very least would be fun to see these kind of things in-game lol.
