from what I remember Iga said the E3 2017 demo wasn't going to be available to backers because the alpha build was coming soon, was even rumors of that alpha build coming in august. it sounds like the saying of the alpha build coming "soon" finally means "soon"

Also, a demo this year would be one of these goals. |

Don't misunderstand this for a lack of hype (I'm VERY hype) but I'm just a little sentimental over that old Galleon Minerva slice and the feeling of "Yep, this is EXACTLY what I helped make".

Most of the times, the latest version of any project are the ones they wish you to use. While projects within the program and application area allows you to download older versions, games does not! This is mostly because games do not need this feature, while application do since it allows the user to have a tool that works for them. Games are not tools in that sense and this is why 1 version at a time "should" exist.
I think they want to replace it and keep it fresh. If anything, they could include the E3 2016 version in the main game at launch, entering it by just using a ... konami.. code, or a password.

im not sure how feasible this is since were in the middle of production, but having the old demo builds be part of a secret menu in the final game would be an awesome thing
i can however see an issue with this since it means they would literally have to port the demos to the nonsteam versions and that will cost time and money to do that they could be using to work on the main game
in any case ill try to back up the files for the current demo, yay for the heads up

I cant help but think them wanting to keep things a secret for as long as possible.

Although we wouldn't recommend backing up the game from a developer's POV (since it is backer exclusive), we don't think it would be harmful to do so for those who rightfully owns the demo. It's kind of a grayish area, but we could let it slide for personal use only since we don't offer an official way of keeping the old demo. We made that project account on Steam (for the E3 demo) when we didn't have a publisher. Now we're merging it with the one set up by 505 Games. Our project account will be deleted so the demo will disappear from your Steam library inevitably. What I would suggest is to re-upload the old demo onto the new project account and have it available as an archive for the backers. I think it would be great like BloodyTears92 mentioned, and it would also show our thanks for being a part of us when the project happened. However, nothing has been decided as of now and I would need to discuss it with our team and 505 Games. I mean, can you imagine seeing it years later and reminisce about the time we all gave real-time feedback on it and the time someone grinded up to level 99? (we don't even have a save feature on it...) |
