Koji Igarashi has again stated in a recent interview with vgchartz (find the full interview in External Articles) that it is his dream to develop a game in a genre that sounds to be quite different from Bloodstained's, such so that he says it wouldn't sell "for a fact". See the excerpt below:
Evan Norris: One last question: is this your dream project? Or is this a way to revisit an older success? Is there something on the horizon — a genre or property that you want to explore even more than this, in the future? Koji Igarashi: Bloodstained is kind of both. We want to relive that nostalgic moment. My game has that base of a side-scrolling, exploration-based game. I want to make that genre a base for the upcoming games that I make. But also, I want to expand the series, and maybe even do another game that's similar in the genre but also a little bit different from Bloodstained. But if I were to create this game that I really want to make I know, for a fact, that it wouldn't sell. But I'd like to make that before I die.
The aim of this topic is both to explore the ideas of what genres you would like to see him work in, and provide encouragement and lend some of our trust. He's clearly not confident enough in his dream game idea, and we don't know what this specific genre is, but we can at least bolster his vision in a general way. I would hate for him to feel limited, as a "one-trick pony" as it were. Let's cheer IGA on! Maybe he'll tell us what he's thinking, and we'll see this game sooner than "before he dies".

I for one would LOVE to see a Dark Souls/Bloodborne style game. A DMC/Bayonetta style beat'em up could work as well. Imagine if Iga were to team up with Platinum or From Software.

um, define "adventure game"? I'm not too familiar with what that means.

That's intentionally vague, but basically games that are more about moving around and finding things than action games. There could be little to no combat, or just not be the main focus of what you're doing. Bayonetta/DMC are almost purely action games. IGAvanias and Zelda are action-adventure. Telltale Games and Myst are strictly adventure. I kinda figured the most people would vote for adventure since that's really close to what his standard games already are. There aren't enough poll options to cover all genres so hopefully the discussion pans out to see what people mean specifically

I would like to see the following genres (Yes, I know I am asking for a lot, but Bloodstained and Castlevania have potential to be many things)
*NOTE: When I say Castlevania, I mean Bloodstained as well.
Dating Sim
Castlevania and Bloodstained have so many attractive characters with such in depth storylines and romantic locations in both storyverses, it makes for a perfect environment for a good dating sim. Heck you could even play the alternate universe card and throw everyone into a high school (Akumajo Gakuen) for a stereotypical dating sim. Also, with a preexisting cast of star studded seiyuu who are veterans in working in the dating sim field, it will make the transition for the staff even easier!
Lastly, if memory serves me correctly, IGA worked on Tokimeki Memorial back in the day, so it will be very interesting to see him revisit this genre.
Fighting Game We have witnessed the potential of Castlevania being a fighting game in the form of Judgement and a fan made game called Serio's Castlevania Fighter, and I am convinced that Castlevania and Bloodstained absolutely has the potential to become a full fledged fighting game. I was actually having this discussion on a Castlevania Facebook group and some of us think Arc System would do a phenomenal job turning Castlevania in a gorgeous 2D brawler. I could just picture how stunning the game will turn out! Maybe even have a couple of Guilty Gear and Blazblue characters be omake characters the player could unlock and bring into the Castlevania universe for a split moment!
Musou (Dynasty Warriors)
Having to play the 3D Castlevania games IGA had worked on, I am confident that a hundred million more enemies could be thrown into the battle map with the Belmonts/Alucard/Miriam's weapons and powers souped up a few hundred notches to create a cathartic beat'em up gaming experience. This will actually be an interesting one, since each Castlevania playable character are so unique in their game play, each character is would be a different experience. Of course, some characters will get a longer play time if the player wants to collect everything for those characters (Soma / Miriam).
Since Musou games do so many crazy things, major enemies could even join the protagonists to be playable characters. Imagine how satisfying it will be to play as Dracula and wipe out an entire field of skeletons with a 10,000 hit combo!! Yes!
^ Musou games are my guilty pleasure...
Smartphone Gacha Based RPG I have been obsessed with playing Gacha based RPG on my phone lately. I have also seen this type of game gain traction within nerd community in my locale, almost all the anime fans I talked to either had played or are playing some sort of Gacha Based RPG these days. I have seen Fire Emblem, Star Ocean and Final Fantasy take the leap of faith and explore mobile gaming. I could totally see a whole new Castlevania with a brand new storyline being put onto mobile with gacha with tiered summons. Maybe it could do something like Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
Action/Adventure
I enjoyed playing the 3D Castlevania games quite a bit, so seeing IGA revisit it would be treat, I want to wonder aimlessly in the picturesque castles again. Definitely more action this time around like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta! Lets throw some (Dante) cool factor into Castlevania!! Maybe even have both Dante and Bayonetta make cameo appearances as bosses. Now that would be wicked cool!
Survival Horror While I was in theatre class, I had actually put together a solo performance that had elements of Castlevania and Silent Hill in it. The performance went really well! So imagine this... you would be exploring a gorgeous castle chapel hall and all of a sudden, a mysterious priest shows up and preach about some cult and how you are not supposed to be here and the next thing you know, the chapel turns nightmarish and the normal skeleton enemies turn into flesh and blood. The chapel's stained glasses are broken and all you see outside is a thick fog that cannot be penetrated, there are holes in the floors that lead to a hellish lava pool with creatures coming out to attack you. Of course, the only weapons you have are a whip, some healing herbs, and maybe a sub weapon, and upon defeating the enemies, the chapel regains its prior form.

It's really hard to picture out what kind of genre IGA could be talking about when he says that he wants to do a game that wouldn't sell. But here are what i would love to see him doing: Role-playing game
That much is a given. Igavania games have roleplaying elements, such as leveling, exp, backtracking and such. I would love to see IGA doing a JRPG in the most classic sense of the world, with colorful characters in stylish clothing, over absurd and over complicated storylines that spins around the destiny of the world, complex level system with a simple, yet interesting battle and such. Dating / Life Simulation
IGA made Tokimeki Memorial. I never played that one, but i played dating simulations before and nowadays they are way better than they was in the past. You have things such as Sonicomi for instance, where the ecchi and sexy elements blend together with the plot, giving the player 18 different endings. I'm sure IGA has enough criativity to pull out a interesting dating / life simulation using gothic and dark elements that he love so much. Fightning game / Beat'em'up
As 緋月エリ said, given the right engine and circunstances, a fightning game with IGA characters, maybe after a Bloodstained 2 or something, would be awesome.

DSLevantineIf you take the theme IGA likes more, the gothic theme (he said countless times that he likes gothic theme and even has gothic objects at his own home) those three i mentioned can easily fit that scenario. The dating simulation could be a forbidden love story between a human and creatures from dark and gothic themes, such as female vampires, werewolves, ghosts and others. The RPG could be a game based on dark magic, rituals and such, while a fightning game could use Bloodstained characters, if the franchise had two or three more games for it.

Telltale Games and Myst are strictly adventure. "Strictly" is pushing it if you grew up in the heyday of the great LucasArts vs. Sierra Golden Age. Myst is arguably the progenitor of what are today often called walking simulators and typically is considered a first-person puzzle adventure while Telltale games are much more narrative adventures, even in the case of continuations of more classic point-and-click series like Tales of Monkey Island or Sam & Max. The Wikipedia article on the genre is actually a fairly good synopsis of the history and subdivisions of the genre. And yes, I am VERY much a fan.

Hold on. What about puzzle games? Like the ones Capcom did back in Street Fighter Alpha era.
With all the puzzle games on smartphones nowadays, this could be another mini-game to help promote the franchise.

I voted for Adventure, RPG, Dating Sim/Life, and Beat-em-Up/Fighting (because of the Beat-em-up primarily)
Adventure game for reasons already specified by other users, I don't have to address that.
An IGA made RPG to offer even greater lore and depth to a new universe would be a fantastic way to branch out, and gives me Shin Megami Tensei style vibes (which could also serve for an RPG/Dating mix ala Persona from 3 on)
Beat-em-up as a genre just hasn't seen much action, and I would love for something as polished as another Streets of Rage. Bloodstained already has a few good characters that could be made playable for such a thing that it's not a drastic departure to figure it would work well, and those games are often well-driven by their soundtracks. Again an area that we will already excel in.

I'd even play a Bloodstained (or Castlevania) spin-off game with the strategy gameplay-style of Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics.
First off, though, I'd still like to see if Artplay & Inti-Creates could collaborate again for the next Azure Striker Gunvolt crossover game (like Mighty Gunvolt Burst; but with Bloodstained characters joining Gunvolt himself... maybe Shantae & Shovel Knight thrown in as well!)

I'd even play a Bloodstained (or Castlevania) spin-off game with the strategy gameplay-style of Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. That reminds me of one of my ideas for the Demon Castle War game. The nature of that story would make it a larger scale fight than usual, so a tactics style game involving armies and multiple units seemed to fit well. One particular idea I'd had was in the final battle, Julius has to fight and occupy Dracula while others in the group fend off monsters all so that Charlotte (now in her 70s) can charge a huge spell to heavily wound or weaken Dracula to where Julius can finish him. This comes from Charlotte being said to be a potential "final weapon" against Dracula and that she would be alive and assumedly more powerful then.
So, yeah, tactics style or a Warriors game. Seemed like changing up the genre would be appropriate for an outright war.
