Some IGAvania fans feel the camera/view is too far away and makes everything smaller than the standard IGAvania closeness.
see here is gameplay of Bloodstained
here's gameplay of SOTN
here's gameplay of OoE (the display is small, but if it were HDTV sized, the sprites and world clearly would look closer than Bloodstained ROTN's)
here's a better display
zoom level view closeness really makes a world of a difference. Some like it closer, others further, though if they make it an adjustable option, it can be win/win for both preferences. players can appreciate the details of the characters and backgrounds even more with a closer view level. and brings forth a greater level of immersion possible with 3rd person perspective.

Appreciation of pixels are always cool, and this is why handheld and older TV / Consoles did had main charachters up close.
With the new HD there are resolutions you can toggle around with, making Miriam become bigger on screens that can't handle HD very well. When it comes to handheld, my guess is that things around her will be cut too, and be more close to the old age of gaming.
But a zoom? That is a feature you need to request, I for one enjoy seeing it being in HD, a step towards new day and age.
To have greater view of the surroundings are a nice feature and something I like, when it comes to have full control once Miriam gain speed and such (!) we might need to look out where enemies and attacks are coming from.

I don't think there will be. Maybe if a dev sees this, but I don't think you need it. Symphony of the night was on older smaller tv screens when it came out but since we have bigger tv's/monitors it is a bit zoomed out, and anyways this means we can have bigger areas with more artwork as well as bigger more complicated boss battles.

I saw a developer conference that IGA was speaking at. Character proportion to the screen is his #1 point of discussion and advice. I'm sure if IGA will be happy with it then most people will be. Communicating to the player by an enemy entering the screen and prompting that reaction is a huge part of game design, so I doubt it will be adjustable.

The map are also in a wide-screen version this time around. Notice how it looks! More space, more monsters, more fun.. ?!

Your eyes are playing tricks on you. The vertical scale of Bloodstained and SotN are identical. The horizontal scaling is obviously different due to the former being developed for widescreen aspect ratios. Here's a screenshot showing that I'm using the same vertical resolution between my shots: And here is a shot with the Miriam and Alucard standing side by side in similar stances: Miriam is a tad bit more slender than Alucard, but both characters and enemies are at the same scale in both games.

Well that puts a stake in it. Nice work with the comparisons.
