Thanks Angel. I must admit I found that set of sentences really weird, but I then went "why not". Well, it's not like 'stained would have objectionable content either.
As long as whatever modified phrases they were, if they were positive and can allow more people to join our cause or reduce the number of potential people with less than good intentions towards the game, I'm all for it... ...Still it's some iffy material to take into account, naturally.

"Oh no, this artcover of a can of beans are too manly! It must surely be something political and sexual!"
Nope, thats art man! Art!
I will never get those that claim games are anything but Art! Even if the game had 8 gallons of blood going in all directions just by hitting an enemy there are no reason to see it as anything other than art.
Moving on..

Article writers and interviewers slip their biases in all the time, and its especially easy when the interviewee speaks a different language and has to be translated. If someone calls the out they can hide behind stuff like "well maybe we didn't get a good translator" etc.
That being said, I'd like to add a bit to Angel's re-interpretation of Iga's words about female leads" not being as risky". its true, big name games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Neir: Automata came out and were huge successes with leading ladies, and that makes me really happy considering it hasn't been that long since something like that was almost unheard of. A little while back there was a little game called Remember Me. It turned out to be a rather meh game, but the controversy around it was pretty important: with the devs revealing they had to fight their publisher constantly on keeping Nilin as the main character, when the publisher was convinced people would not buy games staring women. Then there's the whole "we made the cover of Bioshock Infinite without Elizabeth on it despite her importance because we focus tested different covers and the teenage boys we spoke to didn't want her on the cover".
I just think its important to remember that the reason we can get female protagonists like Miriam so easily and with increasing frequency now is because only a few years ago people had to seriously fight for female leads and prove people would buy them.
Publishers needing things proved to them is honestly a running theme with this game really. People don't want platformers? Guess what, this platformer made over 5 million dollars. People don't want women leads? Well said platformer that made over 5 mil has a woman lead.
Anytime we can slap the industry over their untrue preconceived nonsense is cool by me. Especially when said notion is easy to disprove. I mean, if leading women don't sell games, I'd love to see long runners like Metroid or Tomb Raider explained away.

Very good interview, the part about the game being a hack and slash combo game is something I thought of myself. I personally wouldn't have minded it since it seems the natural evolution to the genre, it would probably play like Muramasa Rebirth but not exactly like that which is something very interesting for me. Good to know that after this game he's going to make at least one more IGAvania. Am really curious about the game that he wants to pursue that's not this genre. Personally, even though I know am in the minority I would love to see him make 3D games again.

"A large reason for choosing a female lead was the Kickstarter. When we thought about collecting funds from Kickstarter, and thought about the modern social movement in America, having a female lead felt right, but also calculated." This is exactly why I don't really like Miriam. She was only made as a result of the PC/feminist movement in the West. I'm pretty sure even IGA himself said he planned for a male MC before the Kickstarter. I just don't like it when developers submit to the PC crowd. The PC crowd isn't just feminists. In fact a large majority of them don't care about feminists or they are against the feminists(not in a way meaning they dislike women, they just don't like people like Anita Sarkisian,) the reason you probably think that is because as pc gamers they have more freedom and they have a bigger voice then people on a console would.

He was meaning PC as in politically correct.

Oh, oops. I haven't ever seen it used that way I thought they were talking about pc gamers not politically correct.
