Igarashi himself HATED this version. The Sega Saturn was supposed to be a 2d powerhouse, but for some reason Konami brought their C-team for the porting job. This version isn't without it's merit - namely the new content in the forms of areas, enemies, items, and Maria being playable. But the one thing, the ONE thing that sucks and makes this game inferior was indeed the framerate. good lord, the framerate was awful. It would chug periodically. And for some reason, some effects are notably missing.
Which leaves me pondering... man, what would it be like if Konami did a 180, fixed their relationship with their workers, and gave igarashi his old job back.... and he were to remake sotn and add back in the content added from both the psp and the saturn ports of sotn, and released it on ps4, xbox one, pc, and the switch?
miracles happen, you know.

Everyone wishes SoTN could get a "definitive edition", but with Konami I saw little hope...
Bear in mind though, Sega Saturn is infamous for its bad support for developers, mainly because its hardware architecture is way ahead of its time and lacks of documentation. It might not be just the team's fault.

Konami? No. IGA? Maybe, yes. If he can buy the rights, sure..

Lol, no. Miracle might happen, but Konami isn't going to return to its former glory and the Saturn version is forever in its grave where it belongs.

I guess that many have that wish, but do be realistic, it will not happen. You have to let go of the past, things will not change, especially under these conditions. For me, the definitive CSOTN experience is the PSP one, even if I preferred the cast and cheesy voice acting of the PS1 version. In fact, the Saturn version of Maria and the two extra passages were not added anywhere. That underground path below the courtyard will forever be stubbed. It pains me too, but that's life.

Yeah with both Kojima and Igarashi gone, on top of the bad press konami is (rightfully) getting, they wont be around much longer. what gives me hope, is that someone worthy ends up buying most of konamis properties. (castlevania, metal gear, contra, goemon...) and bring back kojima and igarashi to work on more games.
maybe one day, we might get a definitive version of sotn with content from the sega saturn game (with none of the slowdown.)

So I just learned that you can play as Maria in the SotN version of Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP which you can also play on Vita if you soft mod it.

That's right Mike, but it's actually a version of Maria that's different from the Saturn one. I haven't played as her in either one. I always intended to play the Saturn vers first, but I've yet to get around to that since it's kind of a pain

Well, the graphics ARE "inferior" (especially masses of water) and some animations are missing... But, i confess my sin... I prefer the Saturn version, over the PS? ones. Extra areas, extra enemies, extra bosses, extra familiars, playful *BADASS* Maria (her Saturn version is an overpowered freak, compared to the other versions featuring her), Simon alternative costume, extra items, extra weapons, extra gameplay options (third hand), etc.
Don't fix what is not broken! As an old gamer, i always prefer story and gameplay, over graphics and animations. Even if the tradeoff is an unstable, severely punished, graphics-wise, product. Saturn version is the CLOSEST thing to a DEFINITIVE edition of this game... And the Japanese audio... You got to instantly fall in love with it!

konami is too busy chasing the unfortunate trend in japan which is social/mobile vaccuum games (may mean in a few years we start getting full fledged non microtransaction laden rpgs and such just before phones shrink to flash drive size for easy loss, but i wouldnt hold my breath cause bejeweled skin #421897428914729471047 that cost $500 to make and you can only play 5 times before waiting 3 days or dropping a dollar means $$$$$$$$)
as for sotn, i have the definitive versions, one on ps1 and one on psp
really the only 2 games i would like to see a revisit and only because im curious to see what iga could pull off now that he has experience with 3d would be a remaster of loi and cod

And I am sure it could be even better if the people involved in porting it actually used the Saturn's potential. It is the better console overall, and especially better for 2D games. And it could even use the Saturn RAM cartridges for more improvements, faster load times and performance, and overall more possibilities. I can only dream of that, as it would be truly the ultimate version. It's pretty sad that the people involved in the port just rushed everything and didn't care for that all that much. I get that many developers tend to just go on to the most trending, best selling console, and ditch almost anything else or give it a bland treatment, but it's still pretty disappointing.
