Well, totality has passed at this point. The sun is returning, and Dracula's soul/essence/whatever has slipped through the seal to reincarnate in the unborn Soma Cruz. I tend to favor that thinking simply because that both the 1999 total eclipse over Europe and the 2035 eclipse over Japan are part of the same solar saros series. 1999's was the 21st of the series (which began on January 4th, 1639 and has been producing total eclipses as of June 29th, 1927). Today has the 22nd, and the 23rd will indeed be on September 2nd, 2035. The cycle will continue on until its final partial solar eclipse on April 17th, 3009. Given the inherent cycle length of 18 years, 11 days, and 8 hours, if Soma isn't born today, he's born close to today. As such, this eclipse is arguably just as important as the one in 1999 or the one to come in 2035 (which, despite the assertion in the English text of Aria of Sorrow, is NOT the first total eclipse of the 21st century...at least, not worldwide).

It was almost directly in my path so I went outside and watched it. A once in a lifetime kinda thing so I am glad I saw it.

Indeed; pretty much the same reason I went out for a look myself. Interestingly, given the 8 hours portion of the saros cycle length, eclipses typically are in sets where a subsequent eclipse is roughly around the same time of day and geographic locations as the one three previous. As such, the term "triple saros" gets used. It's not ACTUALLY a set of three within a cycle itself, but still, the idea of 1999, 2017, and 2035 being a mystically special triple saros amuses me.

Nice to see you guys had fun watching. I'd have to wait for the 2024 one for my turn to experience it.

I will be able to watch one, probably, at 2019. Anyways, i watched NASA livestream. I was able to watch one when i was kid. Really a great experience. As a astronomy enthusiast like myself, that's really something to look for. I always feel a sense of wonder during astronomical events.
