It'd be nice to have a few variety idle animations to make it feel that much more alive. Maybe one where Miriam plays around with a wine glass, one where she just starts looking around her surroundings, and maybe one where she plays around with alchemy or small magic tricks. I love idle animations! Especially when there is more than one type of animation to enjoy. Actually, the concept art of Miriam sitting on a soul-like chair is not a reference to an idle animation? It's supposed to be a skill she can use which heals you or something. Hopefully there are actual chairs scattered around for you to sit on though.

I love idle animations! Especially when there is more than one type of animation to enjoy. Actually, the concept art of Miriam sitting on a soul-like chair is not a reference to an idle animation? It's supposed to be a skill she can use which heals you or something. Hopefully there are actual chairs scattered around for you to sit on though. Oh! I see CastleDan4. Death animations were she maybe turned into stain glass and shatters Yes! Better than just explode!

The double jump though can be pretty much anything!

Maybe flip and silly acrobatics can be animations related to a specific item or armor, like Shove Knight's Ornate Armor (description: Flashy! Acrobatic! Useless!).

Why not both *Everyone cheers* Isn't it possible to have multiple jump animations, flips, knee bend, so on so on? the problem with that in a platformer is the need for precision jump timing. Having random animations makes those jumps unpredictable. I'm all for silly anims and acrobatics, just not for the standard jump.

Since there is almost certainly going to be a double/triple jump in this game, I hope they add a little bit of pizazz to it. I like how in Devil May Cry, whenever Dante double jumped, a red circle appeared under his feet to show it was magic. I recall that Alucard's cape turned to wings for an instant when he double jumped and I think Shanoa did a mid-air somersault. Stuff like that.

In the test footage the artist did ask IGA what her iconic pose is.....
SO maybe that was a hint.

I would definitely like and up button pose, dunno why those were just a fun touch to use occasionally. Good call. Every 'vania character needs an up pose. She won't be using subweapons, though...wonder what up + something will do? I like some of the ideas earlier about reacting to her surroundings, critical state, etc. 2D games have had these things for a while...Mega Man X breathing heavy at low health, Luke Skywalker in the SNES Star Wars games trying to warm himself, etc. Hm...it would be neat if there was an equipable item/relic that would give her kind of an intuition for castle secrets, so that she'd move her head in the direction of it when near something you can discover...or some other little animation detail. I do think the most important things are the default jog/jump and attacks. More variety is better, of course, but I do want the basics to really shine.

They definitely have an ability to make this game their own since it's not a Castlevania.
I'd love the up button to be used to strike a pose but maybe they can use it to view the environment. It's 2.5d...Maybe if there's a painting in the wall behind you...you click up and you can look at it with a text bubble ( she doesn't need to speak at times like that).
I think that'd make the environments all the more cool.
