1. If Bloodless is badass enough, we might encounter her more than once during one gamethrough. 2. Playable characters should not be limited to those skills Bloodless uses, the need of a floor and ceiling to play a character is not a good design. I would suggest Zangetsu Miriam and Johannes, each with different endings: bloodstainedfanforums.com/thread/2120/alternate-endings-bloodstainedConsidering how past "bonus" characters (including playable antagonists) were never limited to attacks that only worked on certain surfaces, I'd say a playable Bloodless won't be the exception.

For a game that is about 30% done, it looks good. Looking forward to when we'll get our chance to try out the demo.

True, I am after replay value, I am all for it. Adding bosses to play and playable "main" characters are so much fun. But I would rather see protagonists doing their part as heroes. In a different world, perhaps it would make a nice mode to have pickable characters to fight off in an arena, controling each one hero or enemy. Bloodless is a cool concept, and very goth but with a innocent designstyle. I would enjoy to see her doing random things for each difficulty-setting along with any other bosses. Perhaps even speed up the attacks, add extra damage and health even. Things like that could make great replay value to the game as well.

Finally more gameplay! As I stated in other thread, the backgrounds look great, and the boss looks original and fun. Im just waiting for more monsters to fill the stages.

About Bloodless as a playabe Character.
I think we all agree that Bloodlass is Badass (hah, i made a pun), she has a unique look and her attacks are creative. She is the size of Miriam and she could easily be adapted to be a playable character. What i want to say is, on MY opinion, what are the odds of her being a playabe character, based on what we know so far.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will have three playabe characters. That was a stretch goal. One is Miriam, of course, so, we have two slots. Considering discussions around the forum, most people tend to gravitate over three names to fill in the remaining slots: Zangetsu, Johannes and Dominique.
ZANGETSU: I personally think that Zangetsu is given. IGA himself made it clear when people asked him about it and he said that he wasn't implying he was going to be one. That is the kind of answer you give when you want to conceal the inevitable truth. I may be wrong, but i really think Zangetsu will fill one of the slots and not only that, he was created for that specific purpose.
JOHANNES: Now, about the remaining slot, i don't really believe Johannes will be the one, because his role at the game is still quite a mystery and, on top of that, he doesn't have a very interesting design for a playabe character (I remember someone from the forum saying that and i agree).
DOMINIQUE: Dominique is a very high candidate. She has a very likable looks, she is a fighter from the church, and it was implied, (not confirmed) that Miriam and Dominque will fight together to free the village at one point. All that makes her a heavy candidate for the third slot.
BLOODLESS: So, where Bloodless fits on all that? We know very little of her. And every information we know so far shows that Bloodless is nothing more than a boss to be defeated. But, a "simple boss to be defeated" turning into a playable character wouldn't be new for a Igavania. Joachim from Lamment of Innocence is a good reminder of when that happened. Not only that, but the way Bloodless moves, how her attacks are and such, really gives a good playable vibe. I was thinking, for instance, that, at all Igavanias, secondary playable characters didn't had acess to things like healing items. Bloodless has a healing ability. She can heal herself by absorbing blood. When you kill some enemies (like Giaramund) at the Demo, they spurt blood that actually paint the walls. Imagine that. If Bloodless was playable, the only way to heal would be at save rooms or by killing enemies, spurting their blood and absorbing it. It would be a really intersting mechanic. Blood Rain, one of her skills, is also dependant on blood around the scenario that you would need to find a way to create it. It is really interesting to think about that.
Even if she doesn't turn out to be playable, she could still fit at the Boss Revenge Mode, the mode were we will be able to play with some bosses at a special area, fightning against heroes.

What i really liked about Bloodless is that all her moves are more or less linked. Blood Arrow is actually one umbrella turning into a fast projectile. That Blood Ray (whose name i couldn't hear properly, but it "sounds" like Blood Cycle or something like that) and the smaller blood throw, alongside your own attacks, helps "paint" her room with blood that she uses it later on for Blood Rain, where the blood from the celling rains down and you can protect yourself with her umbrellas and Blood Steal, where she absorbs the blood from the scenario to heal herself. That is really creative and i really hope other bosses can be as creative as she is. I think she may be saying "Blood Cyclone", which would be fitting since it resembles a whirlwind made of blood. Something that captured my interest was the whip. If you look at the Church Gameplay video, starting from aroud the 4:20 (blaze it) mark, it kinda looks like you can attack at slightly different distances with the whip, though this could simply be an illusion caused by Miriam's different shouts when she attacks. And regarding sounds that Miriam makes, I think she could use an extra yell/grunt/scream or two when she impales herself on a shard, going back to the Church gameplay she has the same sound for every time she gets a shard, which I can see getting somewhat tiresome when she gains a whole bunch of them in a row.

Based on the longer video posted I'm somewhat concerned that the sequence of Miriam getting impaled by the crystals is going to come up too often. It's a cool effect, but it also interrupts game play to a degree. I'm guessing that they're still tweaking drop rates and such, but I'm wondering if it would be good if they had an alternate animation for that for when you collect additional copies of shards that you already have that doesn't stop the flow of the game in the same way as the animation they're using now.

The Bloodless boss fight looks fantastic, all the little details like the slit throat bloody dress to the parasols that turn into 'blood arrows' while also possessing another use in shielding from the dangerous 'blood rain' attack, amazing job!

Actually, the animation only plays whenever Miriam gets a new shard, repeat shards have no animation. So if you kill an enemy, like a Seama and get a shard (cerulean splash), and then kill another of that same enemy and get the same shard (again: cerulean splash), the animation will only play the first time you got that shard.

Nobutron Blood Cyclone, yes, thanks! Nobutron and Busterific, about Shard animation, i really love that animation, but i agree it can get a bit tiresome. Her scream could randomly change too. About the drop rates, that was something i was also thinking about. The Demo shows that most enemies have quite a high shard drop rate, way higher than Aria/Dawn souls and Order Glyphs. But i also remember IGA saying that he was going to make this game with a higher drop rate, because Miriam would need items to forge and shard to use as powers (although the same could be said by Curse of Darkness and Aria/Dawn/Order, in separate ways). I honestly think the drop rates are a bit higher to show off the powers at the demo.

I noticed that there's a Grey/Silver-colored Shard that Miriam collects at some point in the Gematsu gameplay videos, too.
I'm guessing that's a "Relic/Ability" Shard? Kind-of like the silver-colored "Ability" Souls that Soma can acquire in both Sorrow games.

Kind-of like the silver-colored "Ability" Souls that Soma can acquire in both Sorrow games. Yes, it is. I'm going to quote myself at the huge analysis i did at page 2, just the fragment i talked about it. (...) THE SIXTH SHARD TYPE: SKILL SHARD AND SHARD CONTAINERS
Okay, we have a sixth Shard type, the Skill Shard, with gray color. As i said before, this is the substitute for Relics, the same idea used on Aria/Dawn of Sorrow with the Ability Souls. I think most of us expected that, but it is still nice to see that it happened.
The Skill Shard are integrated at the Shard Menu, with a simple ON / OFF mechanism.
Also, we also learned about Shard containers, a pillar that holds a Shard to be obtained. Aria of Sorrow had few of those, so, they are also making a come back. It is interesting, because you can do a lot of gimmicks with that. You are not forced to put progression abilities (abilities required to proceed) at Bosses, wasting good Shards potential. You can put badass shards for bosses AND put progression shards at pillars, protected by bosses. So, it is a win-win.
Story-wise, i think that doesn't make much sense. Why Gebel would purposely let Shard Pillars around, knowing that Miriam can absorb Crystalized Demon power? Maybe, since he intended this to be Miriam's home, he put those around just in case? Or he actually WANTS her to unlock her full potential?
(...) As a side note, The game confirms that it is called "Skill Shard". The Skill Shard Miriam gets at the Demo is a Double Jump.

Want to go over a few points.
First off, great as always. I have newfound confidence in the game.
I'll just talk about what I have glanced at people talking about.
The game looks slow: I don't know why people are saying this. It looks fine to me. It's pretty clear that speed runners will be making ample use of her dive kick. Unrealistic lighting: It's to be expected. We're playing a video game and not looking at a picture. We're supposed to see detail for gameplay reasons, and also so we can appreciate the context of the world. I saw someone say "stone isn't so reflective!" or something along those lines, and what I have to say about that is "have you ever gone outside?" Rocks shine when they're wet or polished, in which case we see both of in the cavern and in the construction materials of the castle. It's not as if they're reflecting images. Everything reflects light.
There are things here and there that can be worked on, and they will likely work on them. I just saw Miriam walk on a puddle and there were no relevant physics involved. No splashing, no movement in the water, etc. But it's not as if we're staring at the final build. The appearance will be improved.

Pure Miriam Thanks for bringing that up. I only recently joined this beautiful discussion thread as of Page 4. Enkeria Now I'm just wondering if there will be certain enemies that contain some of these Skill Shards (like one specific enemy in AoS, and two enemies in DoS).

When stuff starts to pop up in an insane speed with details and info, you really feel like there are rust behind your fingers. I mean, there are so much to talk about after some silence so things catch you off guard. There are so many things we want to write down and ask and speak off, that each thread here gets a little bit of everything. So Page 4, I understand.. Alive forum ftw. I was thinking about that, skill shards. Killing something that guarantee progress is fine. I enjoy seeing these pillars of white shards however. Now, if only we could get lore out of that pillars or random encounter / adventure / quest pillars.. (I am thinking on making a new thread perhaps.. hmmm)

One of the only things that bugged me was the weird blue color of the familiar. Why is that a thing? It kills any detail that our little buddies should have. I get that maybe they want to differentiate from the actual enemies but why not just make it a different color. So for example if we get a demon familiar, instead of the familiar using the purple color of the enemy in the game, it's a red one as a familiar. No weird blue glow highlight thing but the texture of the enemy in a different color. I noticed the monkey summon did the same thing. It actually took me out of it a bit.
On the positive side, the effects in this game look killer. It makes me super excited for special weapons we might find. For instance the Bloodless umbrella weapon she swings looks so damn cool. It has a really neat blur effect with blood flying as it swings. So pumped. Hopefully there's loads of unique cool weapons like that for MIRIAM to use.

Change it's color in the settings like our cloak in SotN? That would be a cool feature, and even change it's transparency. I notice it, and it seems to be one that you do not even have to use, there should be plenty of different sub-weapons, passives and familiars to toy around with, but I would love to see settings for it. Options = more joy.
