Here is an article talking about an animated Castlevania Netflix show. I don't know if this is related to the Adi Shankar announcement for something similar last year. Wow Unlimited Media seems more aimed at children, and Adi Shankar's project was supposed to be super violent. So... I guess we will see as news continues to arrive. Please share anything you find!

May this guy be damn experimented in the animation for youngsters field, I hope his project will not be stained by madness in the end.
*Reads some more* "This is my next venture into kids' programming". Castlevania for kids...?
I'm at loss for words.
That said, if he pulls it properly, I shall praise him for this crazy gamble.
Bonus: Mega Man, TV Series (2017) and its Ruby Spears adaptation or Avatar the Last Airbender live action movie, not to mention the Dragonball one for strange visions of old franchises. Not so glorious.
Edit: Super violent? That second article gave me a full 180° on how I perceive it. It will be overkill violent then censored, maybe?

Maybe if it ends up being "for kids" it'll be a kid-friendly horror series like Gravity Falls or Goosebumps. But I'd also be happy with something in line with Adi Shankar's work.

The project seems to be one and the same since Frederator is owned by this new "Wow" company. The talk about kids programming is in reference to the new studio itself and not particularly Castlevania, in how I was reading it. Besides, that's how they would need to sell it to shareholders lol.
I cannot imagine the profitability/viability of a "kids" Castlevania. It's not a franchise familiar to anyone under adult age at this point, and it would take a whole lot of work and liberties to readjust it -to- a younger audience.
Anyway, I think this is more or less just re-affirming the old Frederator project that is apparently still happening, and this guy/this new company owns them. Shankar may/may not still be involved, though.

That Adi guy said it was supposed to be an adaptation of Dracula's Curse. I see. So at least we can reasonably expect the "three companions" (Sypha, Grant, and Alucard) in addition to Trevor. Maybe Carmilla as a supporting villain in addition to Death and Dracula. |

Ohh, I'm really looking forward to this now. Adi announced Warren Ellis is involved and he's a pretty solid writer (Planetary, Transmetropolitan, Doom 2099, X-Men, Nextwave, the G.I. Joe: Resolute animated miniseries, and Dead Space).

A Castlevania TV Show Is Headed To Netflix This Year
Part 1 of the first season is due out in 2017.
Netflix will release a new TV series based on Castlevania sometime later this year, the company announced today.
Unfortunately, there aren't many official details to be had at this point. As part of a series of announcements it made today, a Netflix press release listed something called Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 as launching in 2017. The team behind it includes Adi Shankar (who was responsible for the excellent 2015 Power Rangers short film) and comic veteran Warren Ellis.
"Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself," an official description reads. "The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert, and Adi Shankar."
This same project was actually hinted at last year. Seibert, a producer on Adventure Time, was a guest on the Nick Animation podcast in December (via Slashfilm). During it, he mentioned that he was at work on something "based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years." Earlier in the year, Shankar actually said on Facebook that he was working on a Castlevania series with Seibert.
"I'm producing a super-violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde," Shankar wrote at the time. "It's going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda, it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head."
Given how long Castlevania has been around--it originally debuted in 1986--there has been surprisingly little in the way of non-game adaptations. Konami hasn't announced any new games in the series. The most recent, Lords of Shadow 2, came out nearly three years ago. Meanwhile, Koji Igarashi--the man behind the franchise's most celebrated game, Symphony of the Night--is working on his own spiritual successor, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. |

Not hyped at all. Here some quotes I found in this article: What the hell Game of Thrones has to do with anything Castlevania related? And this "added so much depth to the material" means that "we fu**** up the story and characters, but you'll like it!", at least for me. Violence, mature... right, they'll just force meaningless violence and gore to shout "LOOK HOW ADULT THIS CARTOON IS! LOOK!". I couldn't care less about the rating and violence. I'm still watching it though, just to have more reasons to hate it. |

I'm actually surprised that Konami gave the green light for this to happen in the first place... unless it's CV-like rather a straight up CV animation project.
I'm actually curious if this animation will cover the Demon Castle War. With Warren writing, it's possible.

I don't see why violence in a castlevania series is bad. Castlevania games were always graphic from the violence, to the imagery, to the erotic nature of some enemies. Game of Thrones sounds apt when thinking of that on the base level of violence and imagery. Pumped for this, a lot of talent is working on it. Willis was working on this tv idea a long time ago here was art for it. Looked faithful to the game. Love that they wanted to go for the music style of the old games.  |
