Been a kickstarter project for ages. Alphareleased during December 2016. The game was a huge deal a few years back.

Gold suits solo players and is a bit cheaper, while STCE suits more co-op players. If you own the Gold, there is a way to DLC of STCE, which really should've been a DLC from the beginning. If you are about to buy and want it "all", pick the STCE version.
Guacamelee! builds upon the classic open-world Metroid-vania style of games, by adding a strong melee combat component, a new dimension switching mechanic, and cooperative same-screen multiplayer for the entire story. The game also blurs the boundaries between combat and platforming by making many of the moves useful and necessary for both of these.

Dark Souls player find this game even harder. Just say'n. "This game is possibly the largest metroidvania in existence. It took me a good 35 hours to play through and even that was with quite a few hints for the late game puzzles."

Over 40 years ago, the goddess Valdis was killed by her daughter, the dark goddess Myrgato. Since this event Myrgato has been at war with her twin sister, Alagath the goddess of light. This perpetual war is fueled by human souls that the gods use to create their warriors; Myrgato twisting souls into demons, and Alagath manipulating souls to create angels. Each day the remaining human population dwindles as they are forced to choose a side or die.

Gold suits solo players and is a bit cheaper, while STCE suits more co-op players. If you own the Gold, there is a way to DLC of STCE, which really should've been a DLC from the beginning. If you are about to buy and want it "all", pick the STCE version.

Really a game you either enjoy for what it is, or feel its a waste of time. Simple generic story, with backtracking elements. Mixed reviews but mostly positive.

Dark Souls player find this game even harder. Just say'n. "This game is possibly the largest metroidvania in existence. It took me a good 35 hours to play through and even that was with quite a few hints for the late game puzzles."
