Nintendo Switch Hype Train: Rumors and Such...

Given that kids will be playing this on the go, durability is a must for those oops moments.

considering ths is the age where nearly every gamer out there has access to some kind of recording device and social media to scream really really loud on, for a worldwide release to only have this many issues, and most of those issues arent design flaws, theyre anomalies in manufacturing like dead pixels which do just happen (keep in mind i said dead PIXELS not dead ZONES like the 2 shown in that vid, that is a more serious flaw that should be rma worthy) and ribbon cables not getting seated properly causing graphical glitches, damage due to shipping, and user error like accidentally putting in the cart backwards and damaging the slot, putting the joycon straps on upside down, being super forceful when putting it in the dock, etc (the kickstand 'issues' arent issues because the kickstand is designed to come off in case its docked while the kickstand isnt all the way closed or grabs a strap/bag/sleeve/whatever and not break anything important)

the only actual DESIGN flaw ive seen so far spawn wave pointed out an 'easy' fix for (that he doesnt recommend the average person trying due to how many ribbon cables are in the joycon) is with the left joycon losing sync, they printed the left joycons antenna into the board right next to a metal object (which can interfere with signals, similar to a farraday cage), which he solved by soldering a copper wire to the solder point for said antenna and ran it down to the bottom edge of the joycon away from the metal joystick assembly and your hand (we also have an electrical field and water that can muck with signals sometimes), so maybe left joycon 2.0 will address this with a better antenna (and depending on how severe the problem is nintendo may offer a swapout for that joycon)

edit:now that i think about it, nintendo did some very smart engineering things to make the switch both durable and easy to fix, like a strong internal cage that doubles as a heat sink, using that bendable plastic screen instead of glass to make it more resistant to minor falls, making the headphone jack/cart slot and the msd slot boards seperate from the main pcb board which means in the case those DO get damaged, you only have to replace a half dollar sized board instead of the entire unit, and the attachment rails having specific fail points built in to save the overall console (something i like to call a sacrificial gear, you make the hard to access gear metal and the easy to access one plastic teflon or duron, that way in a catastrophic failure you lose the piece thats simple to replace rather than 2 metal gears binding so hard you can wreck the rest of the machine or chewing themselves to bits, or 2 'plastic' gears cracking and now you have a nightmare of a repair on your hands)

all said, compared to things like the ms rrod for the 360 (went through 5 of those between friends and family before i told ms to fuck off i wasnt buying another 360) or sonys bsod, or even the original ds scratching itself up and the extremely finnicky nes loading tray with the contact pins getting bent and the push mechanism wearing out really quickly, so far the rate of failure the switch has is rather good, but we all know bad news travels faster and louder than good news

I got the Switch when it first came out, but I've been SO busy that I've only been able to play for an hour or two at a time. Today was the first day that I spent most of the day playing the Switch... which also means I had my first real "switch" moments -- picking up the console and taking it with me, doing stuff, putting it back in and playing again on the TV. Wow, it was seamless and fast. That's a lot neater than I was hoping it would be!

if seiken densetsu 3 gets an english language option i dont care if its onlyon the jp eshop, im buying it

which i bought along with earthbound, just hope theyre retooling the vc for the account change and switch to allow for a merging of all of them into one megavc going forward instead of wii vc, wiiu vc, 3ds vc and i can actually justify buying more vc games instead of simply continuing to use my psp or original hardware if i happen to have the game
