After Nintendo Switch has been revealed, I fully support IGA making the game for Switch, along or instead of Wii U version. I think the quality and performance can only be better than Wii U. I own only Wii U and at the moment I have no other device that could play Bloodstained. It would be somewhat sad for backers who backed the Wii U version, so there should be some questionnaire sent and also a possibility of refund. I am sure IGA will make a good decision in the end, even thought it is not easy in his position to be fair to everyone. Edit: If it is true that Switch will not have backward compatibility to play Wii U games, I might not buy the device. Only some great games that I would like to play would convince me. I think the best way to do this is to cancel the physical copy for Wii U version. Deliver only digital version. This will minimize the losses and Iga'll be able to keep his promise. Printing physical copies costs a minuscule amount compared to porting costs. Canceling physical while still doing the Wii U version would make a minimal difference in the overall cost.

The key here as far as the promise is to indeed ask the backers themselves that were on for a Wii U version. Moving ahead with canceling older versions and porting to new ones without their input after a lot of people backed specifically after that stretch goal was reached would cause quite a stir.
Some of the losses from having to keep promises could be recouped by selling copies of the newly added NS version, which shouldn't be too hard to accomplish as it reportedly supports UE4 already and 505/Inti are partners.
The question for me really at this point is if it remains worth Armature's time/the investment to port UE4 to Vita/Wii U for this game, releasing that code afterward, at a time where no one will really need to or even be able to use it. I think I'm more worried for Vita players than Nintendo at how things are going.

Physical Wii U backers would then get less than their other-device-counterparts though which would be just as wrong in my opinion.

With the "Switch/NX" now using cartrigdes, makes me wonder what the storage capacity and cost will be to now make a SWITCH version of the game because, quite honestly, the Wii U will be pretty much dead by 2018, there is no getting around that fact.
Also wonder how well Unreal 4 will work on Tegra 3

This is tough. I really wanted the game on the Wii U. For one, I like the idea of Nintendo getting a new "Castlevania" game, even if it is only in spirit, on a system that could use some more varied, quality content from 3rd party sources. Like Yooka Laylee, and to a lesser extent Mighty No. 9, it's such a value-added development for Wii U owners (at least in theory). Also, the touchpad notation option is really cool and useful. But primarily my reason is I do not intend to upgrade to NX/Switch for quite some time. I think it's a neat idea, and I've got love for Nintendo; however, from what has been shown, it doesn't do anything that really benefits me personally right now that the Wii U can't do. Very rarely do I feel the need to play console games on the run, and most AAA mainstream titles have minimal appeal for me at this point. That Zelda game was originally made for Wii U, so I'm fine with playing it on Wii U, in the same way I played Twilight Princess on Gamecube when that switcheroo happened.
To make me an early adopter of Switch, it would take an amazing Metroid game, and I don't mean another first-person Metroid Prime, which I fear is what Nintendo will go back to due to the failure of Other M. (I loved Prime, particularly the first one, but by the third mainline game, it was clear that the format was limiting the franchise. Now, Other M wasn't a fully successful experiment by any means, but it was proof that 3D 3rd-person (with 1st-person options) can work in a Metroid game, and should be refined to expand the franchise's potential. The next Metroid should ideally be the "Breath of the Wild" of Metroid games. But I digress...)
So, long and short, I'm still firmly in the Wii U camp. That said, I'm reasonable. I will be very disappointed if IGA pulls the Wii U version, but I understand that business is business. And in a sense, taking myself out of the equation, in the long run, it might be better for the game if it is on a newer console. If that happens, I will want some options, though. An upgrade option has to be on the table, in my opinion. Now, I paid for a physical copy, but if someone didn't, and they don't have a Switch, do their download codes have an expiration date? That is something that will have to be carefully planned, because not all Wii U backers are necessarily going to have a Nintendo Switch quickly.
One last thought on that: Someone said a solution would be to cancel the physical Wii U version but keep the download Wii U version. If that's the case, one solution would be a digital download to Wii U for Wii U backers + a physical copy for the Switch. However, a problem emerges in any solution if Nintendo alters the eShop so that the Wii U can no longer receive certain content in 2018.
But on that note...I just realized, pushing out to 2018, even though Wii U will be obsolete, PS4 and XBOXOne will be nearly in the same boat. Despite the PS4 Pro, there are rumors that PS5 is on the horizon by 2019 or 2020--some even forecast 2018; and given its announcement by Microsoft, XBOX Scorpio should already be out by the time Bloodstained comes out. So, when it comes to the marketplace timing, Bloodstained is in danger of being caught in the midst of a console cycle switch. It could be good, in that there will be install bases, or it could be bad in that people will be focused on upgrading and playing the next big AAA titles. So, in a sense, I think this problem extends a little past Wii U...

How many WiiU backers could there be, on average?
On Kickstarter, 64,867 backers pledged $5,545,991 to fund Bloodstained. On average one backer spent $85,50 (that's pretty high by the way). Let's say 1% of backers chose WiiU - that's 649 backers. To give refunds to all of them would amount to $55,488.
There is of course a sizeable number of slacker backers too (to add to the complete funds received from backers), but maybe not enough to change these numbers considerably. There is also (most likely) a sizeable number of people who do have the option to play the game on another system and are willing to do so. Then there are the backers who, above all, are Nintendo fans and want Bloodstained for a Nintendo system - some, or even many, of them get the NS and are open to transfer to that platform.
So in the end, the number of WiiU backers who would face a dead end here might actually be quite low. Still, that doesn't mean those backers don't have every right to be very disappointed. Maybe, in addition to the refund, they could receive some unique backer gift from the team...?

I think that so long as it's on the next-gen systems and PC, he's done a reasonable job fulfilling expectations. That's part of the risk of crowdfunding - with no hard timeline of release, one has to assume that by the time the final product arrives, it will skip outdated systems. A fair compromise seems to be PC, as it doesn't force ownership of any particular system. Of course, many people don't own a gaming PC, but this game shouldn't be *too* demanding, and no solution is absolutely ideal.

You should still have an e-mail from sometime back in late 2015 about a link to your survey (I got mine back in September 2015). Of course, I'm assuming you're one of those who originally backed this game during the initial Kickstarter campaign, and not a slacker-backer.

Many people have talked about the possibility that the game would be released for the switch to replace the wii u version which may be abandoned.
I don't now too much about game development and this is my first time ever backing a game but I find it fairly unlikely that the game would be released on the switch because they would probably have to completely restart porting the game and I feel that it's a bit too late in the development to completely restart porting on a new console.
Also because the switch hasn't been released yet wouldn't it be kind of a big gamble to jump into a new console which no one knows how well will do even though people see to really like the idea there's no guaranty that it will succeed.
Well anyways I don't really think that there will be an NS version and they may also cancel the wii u version probably because of it was kind of a failure as a console even though it's actually really good (kind of like the GameCube which it only passed in sales in the last years of it's lifespan).

Everyone I know who games is planning to buy one, and none of us own a Wii U. I'd say that from a strict sales standpoint, a highly anticipated console is a better bet than a demonstrably failed one. I don't expect to hear news one way or other until after the Switch is released, but I know that if they do change to the new console, I'm planning on buying a second copy.

From my understanding switch is launching with UE4 support so a port would be far easier on it than it would on the Wii U. You are right about Wii U though Nintendo has ceased production for switch so new ones will probably start becoming hard to find soon. Wii U had heavy support with backers though switch would be better for getting new people because its (likely) to be a more successful console. In the end the decision is up to Iga.
