I just had my first really amazing VR experience last night. I tried the HTC Vive at Gamefest and played an office simulator and a zombie shooter. The office simulator was amazing. Interacting with objects in the game was perfect. I felt like I was IN a cartoon. It felt so real that when it was done, I was going to put the two motion controllers down on a counter in the game world (aka drop them).
Will Bloodstained work in VR? Hell yeah it will. The resolution of the VR is so good. My laptop is my gaming machine. The only other PC we have is being used in the living room attached to the TV, and it's not quite as powerful. So instead of playing on my laptop screen, it would be awesome to put it on a VR screen that takes up the limits of my vision. There would be no glare on my TV like there is in the living room from natural window light even if I could run it in the living room.
The worst part about VR is disconnecting from the rest of the family. They can't really watch me play and talk to me if I were to play Bloodstained in VR. However, if I wanted to truly immerse myself with a game, playing any game in VR would be better.
I can't afford an $850 setup for the HTC hardware, but I also can't afford a PS4 or XBONE... but if I had the money, I'd get a better PC and HTC Vive before I got anything else.

You must be talking about job simulator? Yeah it's pretty dang great. As far as your concerns for being separated from your family. That's why I love the PSVR it has an image splitter so your tv displays what you see. They also have some group games where the people no using the headset play or participate in their own ways. A game that comes to mind is the party game " keep talking and don't explode" Anyways, it was just a thought I had. I think it'd be pretty wild to look INTO the castle with our very own eyes. Galamoth what about Resident Evil 7? That's the big game that convinced me to get VR.

As far as using the world of Bloodstained to do some sort of VR experience, sure I think there is potential. Not in the sense of an Igavania game, but in the sense of world immersion and story telling.
Imagine a game where you inhabit the castle as an alchemist mixing potions or summoning demons. If it was multiplayer, you could just meet up and chat. I love bluffing games, and incorporating some board game like qualities to a game where basically people get together in a cool room of the castle and outwit each other.
Maybe something about summoning demons and asking them questions. The way you use the information you uncover about your rivals helps you make winning decisions. I don't know. VR opens up a whole world of possibilities.

Hmmm...a VR IGAvania...I wonder. I gotta say, that I thoroughly like the idea. However, I don't think that a side-scrolling VR would be that enjoyable. If IGA were to create a different game than the reminiscent Castlevania games that had VR support, then I would be all for it. But as far the traditional going-through-hundreds-of-rooms-from-left-to-right-with-a-fixed-camera-angle goes, I would rather just keep that on the TV screen. I understand that there could be a lot of counter-arguments for it, but that would really just prove my point even more. "You only have to move your head slightly side to side for minimal motion." Well yes, but without VR I don't have to move my head at all.
"There are VR headsets that are super light!" Well yes, that may be however I happen to be a pretty hardcore gamer, and tend to lose track of time and play games for hours. No matter how light something may be, if it's on my head I'm gunna want to take it off eventually. (One takes off their baseball cap when they get home, no?) :p "It's a totally new and refreshing experience!" And it looks rad as heck! I just don't think I want my IGAvania experience anything less than traditional. I dunno, Resident Evil 7 with VR looks rad as heck, and I def wanna get that one, but that's also a different style of game. I'm not saying that VR shouldn't try to be innovative, and creep into as many genres of gamer perspective as possible, no, that's not it. I just think that people want the traditional IGAvania with this one. Seems to me that VR is encountering some of the same issues that the Nintendo Wii first encountered when it came out. A lot of people didn't like the idea of having to physically move to play your video game. I dunno, I never disliked the Wii, and I certainly don't dislike VR in video games. I guess all in all we'll hafta wait and see what happens. But I'm done playing Devil's advocate. And good post idea, CastleDan. :]

It's hard to say either way without actually trying it with a game like this. RE7 smartly has the option to turn VR off at any point during the game. That'd be a great option and I hope becomes more available with other games as well.

Remember when touchscreens were all the rage back when Dawn of Sorrow was released? Yeah... I mean it was a fantastic game but none of that was due to the touch-features it had. Similarily I don't believe that Bloodstained is best suited for head-mounted displays. VR for VR's sake in a game that doesn't truly need it really doesn't strike me as a great idea. They'd have to radically change the core gameplay for that to work really well and I don't know if it would be better for it. I have tried Vive and Oculus and it was quite fascinating though.There was a vive-game in which you moved by leaping forward with your arms and it felt amazing! That was because the game was developed specifically for the Vive. It wouldn't work with regular input devices at all it wasn't VR just to have VR but rather because the game wouldn't work otherwise. That's what makes VR amazing to me and with the state Bloodstained is in I just don't see it.

A future Bloodstained POTENTIALLY. I wouldn't equate it to a touch screen, touch screens are way more gimmicky whereas VR effects the atmosphere and is engrossing. It'd be more like playing an Igavania in 3d rather than touchscreen. Is 3D necessary for an Igavania? Of course not but that's not really what I'm raising. Imagine SOTN having 3D effects where all the scrolling elements have true depth to them. Is it essential to make it a great experience? No, but it adds to the atmosphere and its a great option. That's all I'm suggesting. It's important to note, people don't assume something works until they've actually tried it. Like, people looked at VR experiences and said it had to be short form, but now Chronos and even RE7 are breaking that mold and providing long experiences in the VR form to some good success. How would it work with sidescrolling visuals? Who knows, but it'd be an interesting experiment. Here's a low budget game that is already doing it. It shows me potential if a developer like Iga got to work with it. Imagine being in the chapel controlling your charater and being able to look up with your head to see the platforming that you will be doing, the bells hanging from high up. Imagine controlling your character and being able to bring your face closer to her to check out more of the details that you don't get to see well. Your head becomes an element of the castle as you peer into it's layers. It's exciting to think about, but it could be an OPTIONAL thing. Just like the 3d on a 3DS has the slider function, VR could have an off function. EDIT: I must stress if you've never tried a modern headset than you need to. People throw gimmick out a lot but this is the future of gaming in a lot of ways. This weekend they will be getting in new demos such as Batman and Rigs. Both of which need to be experienced.

If you count the Samsung VR, then yes, I have, but if not, then I don't because my dad bought one on impulse and got ripped off 40 dollars out of it Oculus Rift cost 600USD without delivery and tax, while HTC Vive cost 800USD also without delivery and tax, and both Oculus and Vive never even listed Singapore to deliver the product, so, that will even increase the price even further The only thing that I can think of on how it will work on IGAvania games is to have diorama camera mode, I guess? not just to look from one angle?
