Update #44: Music with Michiru-san

Totally love the music.

I just love Holy Wisdom! The organ, church bells, and solo vocals really resonate with me. And as I mentioned in the Shoutbox, I'm pretty sure I heard a harpsichord in Luxurious Overture. If I'm remembering correctly, the harpsichord was a pretty common instrument during the game's time period, so it fits beautifully!

While we've heard 3 of these, I still like seeing Yamane's thoughts on them. Holy Wisdom was a real surprise. Its that mix of foreboding and catchy that drew me into LoI's and CoD's soundtracks (the track reminds me of Ghostly Theatre thanks to that wonderfully eerie soprano vocal). Normally I hit up some of the game's tracks on youtube to enjoy updates to the maximum, but that's hardly necessary today! This is REALLY shaping up to be a great soundtrack, and I'm very glad i pledged enough to get a CD! 

And of course, a Happy Birthday to Yamane-san!

Thank you to everyone involved with the new update! I enjoyed it! More Bloodstained music is always a good thing.

The first thing I thought of when I saw IGA's Pixelatl disguise was "Holy crap, IGA is a superhero protecting his secret identity." How neat would it be if it turned out the hat and mask he wore ended up being our first look at a yet-to-be announced Bloodstained character?

I really enjoyed the new music tracks! I felt IGA was completely right when he said "each one will immediately make you think: "Ah... this is definitely Michiru-san's work."" I get that feeling each time I listened to a new music piece for Bloodstained. Luxurious Overture felt like something that'd fit in with the Sorrow games and Holy Wisdom feels like something from SOTN.

I'm curious about what music Michiru-san has been listening to as an influence, inspiration, or just for fun in her spare time while working on Bloodstained's soundtrack. The middle of Voyage of Promise reminds me of A Whole New World from Aladdin, Luxurious Overture reminded me of the first 10 seconds of Sloprano (The Great Mighty Poo's song) from Conker's Bad Fur Day, and Holy Wisdom reminded me of Dancing Mad from Final Fantasy 6, the title screen from Donkey Kong Country 2, and the chapel and alchemy lab from SOTN.

...Or, maybe all of those used the same influences as Michiru-san's new music. I kinda doubt IGA would say "Here is your reference music. They include Disney songs, some of Nobuo Uematsu's work, and a couple of pieces by David Wise, one of which had lyrics sung by a singing pile of poop in the actual game."

I also appreciate how IGA said "Please note that we have a tentative plan for when each track will be played, but they may shift around after the stage tracks are all completed." Now I'm curious about what context the music will end up being in and how they could change from the plan. Voyage of Promise is probably going to stay where it is, I can see Holy Wisdom being used for either a chapel or the theme music for twisted villain who mistakes foolishness and cynicism for wisdom, and I can see Luxurious Overture being used in the first part of the game's actual castle.

As for the fanart, I really liked Kawatare's pic and how shoujo-ish it looks. It's a nice contrast to "Miriam's sad and cruel fate."

Now I'm curious about what everyone involved with the updates are going to do to make up for the one they missed since #44 was originally meant for August. I wonder it has something to do with the camera crew from this Facebook post. Hmm...

I just hope nobody involved feels too hard on themselves for accidentally missing a backer update. Maybe we should all send them some more donuts to help them to relax. I don't want IGA to feel pressured into making something like "Instant Adoring Boyfriend" for the fans in order to make up for missing an update.

THEME OF BLOODSTAINED

We heard this one before. It is interesting to know that Michiru created this piece to provide a music for the Kickstarter campaign and IGA actually influenced her with the video. That's really curious, considering she probably didn't even know where this music would be used. It is most probably that it will stay as the game's main screen song and i love Theme of Bloodstained, it fits so well with the overall idea of the game!

VOYAGE OF PROMISE

Galleon Music we already learned to love. I like this song because it is kinda upbeat on a sweet way. It has a HUGE Igavania feel on it and i think everyone agrees that this music has the feeling of the start of an adventure, like Miss Michiru said.

HOLY WISDOM

Michiru only says that the reference material is "a beautiful place". Considering how epic this song is, it really looks like it could be used on a church, a library or some kind of earie place, even more with the pipe organ and soprano vocal. What a great masterpiece.

LUXURIOUS OVERTURE

This track was included by mistaken at the Demo files, but that was forbidden to be said until now (i hope). So, some people (including me) already listened to it and it is a GREAT track. it's so beautiful and fantastic, and when the flute goes in, it touches you deeply.  Michiru talks about " the fountain, the chandelier, and all the sparkly decoration", damn, what a gorgeous gothic place that will be!

Bloodstained is on really good hands!

We've heard the first two songs, but the latter two seem to be Michiru at her best. If this is any indication, Bloodstained would be worth it just for the soundtrack alone!

The new music sounds brilliant as expected
I still don't know which CV-theme the main melody of Holy Wisdom reminds me of but it might be Garibaldi Temple or a mix of that and SotN's library theme. Both of which are pretty amazing themes so I'm not complaining

I've got two things to say about LUXURIOUS OVERTURE in this thread.

1.)  It is apparently intended by Michiru Yamane to be the 'Castle Entrance' theme for Bloodstained.  Though, as started earlier in the Update, it is still a tentative matter at this point.

2.)  As I said in the Shoutbox earlier today, part of this track reminds me of "Crucified", a 1991 song by the band Army of Lovers.  I don't know if Yamane-san intended that to be the case, but I personally love how similar it sounds.

God I love Holy Wisdom. It is truly dark, which gives the whole game a more mature theme. It really gives me vibes of SOTN music like Requiem of the gods. As people have mentioned, it is perfectly suited for the chapel of the castle. Seems like IGA is going to be giving us another treat soon to compensate for the lack of one update, perhaps a glimpse of some backer enemies? some sketches with luck? Anyways, short but sweet update.
