I would love to see a location Gebel created as a fail safe to hide himself away in if his plans ever back fired. Given the theme of the game it could be found by walking through a false stained glass window (maybe of Miriam?). Light, reflections, and illusions could be something that works as a mechanic for the deeper areas and has a focus over all on being a sinister place symbolizing his loss of humanity.

Since the castle in Bloodstained is out on its own in a huge expanse of water, what if the castle that you see is just the tip of the iceberg? ...the majority of the giant castle being underwater.

That's a really cool idea. I can see the devs doing lots of creative things with the backgrounds and windows since it'd be underwater instead of on land.

I think multiple layers of platforming like Muramasa, maybe to the point where it doubles as a second castle?
Or there is Zelda, a link between two worlds with its awesome puzzles design based on switching from 2d to 3d. I Don't think that fits Bloodstained though -_-

An upside down castle would be awesome...... imagine it in 2.5d where the objects would be fallen instead of stills in the background.

At the "end", we realized that we were in a realm of mirrors. Now we enter the reversed world, the real one and heading back to the village to find out the real ending. Awaiting the ship by the docks, that now have a new name: "Limbo".

Probably a weird idea, but how about an alternate castle with a new layout that is based on memories?

Just a suggestion... Inverse castle was pure awesomeness, but it worked so well because it was an original idea and because Alucard's skills were simply tailored around its exploration (bat flight, super jump, etc)... We can have a hidden, but normal castle, instead. In the "demon dimension" or something. Or it can become visible in the human world... Casting a glimpse over "The Necromancer's Manual", there is a spell in Latin that can "summon a castle" (illusionary, obviously), a horse, a "flying throne" even...! Well, since the game went so far as to draw inspiration from occult fables (Goetia and the lesser keys of Solomon), it can go one step further and incorporate some other grimoire's goodness, as well! CLM849 has just what the demon... er, the doctor, ordered!

I agree it worked so well because it was original. A second castle doesn't quite fix that. Harmony of Dissonance did that.
We would need something that broke the mold but filled the expectation that there is a new way to experience the castle if you find the secret half of the game.
The switching back and forth through parallel realities was done well in Guacamelee. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of that in Bloodstained.
What spell book are you digging into there? Do I have to know Latin?

There's always the "Reflected Castle" idea. (Another castle that is, at first, seemingly the lake's reflection)

My idea on that: bloodstainedfanforums.com/post/32943/threadAfter getting the true ending from the original 1600+ room castle, Gebel (or whoever is the true main antagonist) curses the castle fully, which in turn creates, destroys and otherwise changes areas with crystal/stained glass growths everywhere. Their aim in doing this is to trap you in the castle as it sinks or descends back to where it came, so your goal is reversed in escaping the castle rather than getting to the heart of it, say, back to the Minerva...where one last time, main villain tries to head you off as you make your final steps away from the castle island.
It would be the same castle, but remixed, with beautiful crystal colors and lighting effects on the environment and new/existing enemies. More powerful shards and crafting drops, naturally, because of what kind of place you are in now. Things like walls and spikes of crystals would be in some spots needing new traversal abilities and equipment to get through (i.e. spike breaker, powerful anti-curse blessed war hammer D:), etc. They could reuse a couple of bosses with altered models and attacks due to the enhancements of the castle curse. We'll call it the Cursed Castle (tm). It seems to me like a good compromise on doing something new while also being able to re-use a lot of stuff in a very in-context, lore-friendly way.

I was about to comment about how the "new castle" would be like you're drugged out of your mind or Alice in Wonderland level of crazy but that idea sounds so much better. Nicely done PWS.

What spell book are you digging into there? Do I have to know Latin? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_Manual_of_Demonic_MagicYes, you need to know latin (even if it is partly translated in English; but don't be cheap, every occultist out there, knows that Latin is considered to be the "pure language" and English, the "impure" one). One of the "experiments" (spells) listed inside, is for "summoning a castle". When i saw that, i almost laughed to death and immediately, first thing, thought: "Castlevania"! (of course i ain't giving you its contents, because "copyrights"; just google search)

I edited my post. Sorry it didn't make it into the quote. I'm trying to think of more things that would be cool to replace the inverted castle. Just mirror it, and make the textures and overal feel different, change enemies and items. Let some words become clear, others mirrored, just like in the original castle, which COULD be the mirror-version from the very start with us going towards the second but TRUE castle. Let us understand the Limbo surrounding this "hell" Miriam is currently in, and a way to brake the chain. If this is done, there is no need to fly around actually. And a funny addition would be: Two of each main characters just to twist our brains. Miraim Vs. Miriam. Gebel the Nice one.. and so on.

In SOTN they seemed to change the background colors to more of a purplish or bluish look. It was simple but I liked that. With the Bloodstained environment being rendered in full 3D I believe they can still do something even more beautiful without doubling the work. Below I photoshopped an image of the village. I changed the colors, saturated them a bit, highlighted some areas and added phosphorous-like lights to some of the plant life. I also lit up a couple of windows too that shine outward. Overall it gives the scene an otherworldly or surreal look. I think they could do simple things like this with the Unreal engine. The procedural texture generator would also be handier than ever in this case. It could do a different pass over the environment with sheer ease. And mirror it, not do an up-side-down.
