After years of hard work, Pokemon Uranium, a fanmade game, has been released! I've nabbed it myself, and I can honestly say its pretty fantastic. The sprites, the music, everything feels great. Okay, I'll admit, when I saw the thread title, my first thought was 'Sweet Arceus, was the third version of the GenVII games announced already?'.
But at least I can actually get myself talking about this. I can barely speak about Sun/Moon (or 'Pokémon S&M', as my witty self and some witty friends have taken to calling them) because of how crazily anti-spoiler I'm being. Don't want to see new Pokémon designs, Gym Leader designs, Gym Trainer designs, anything regarding the obligatory villainous team, etc.
Anyway, I'm genuinely impressed with the trailer. This really looks like it could have been an official GenIV or GenV game. (Minus the fact that GenV had animated battle portraits for the Pokémon.) The 'Fakemon' as people call them, are really well designed and look like they could have been in a real game. I think what really drove that home for me was the scene where a 'Tanscure' was facing off with a Gligar, and the Tanscure didn't really look meaningfully out of place to me.
And I like that it's 2-D. There's nothing wrong with 3-D graphics, but there's a certain 'something' that sprites just convey much better. Watching that video by itself made me want to go back to my Soul Silver cartridge.
That's my immediate thoughts. Maybe I'll come up with more stuff to say later.

Ok, the graphics look clean as F*CK. I think I may possibly get the game. Also, it's too bad to hear that XY won't be getting a successor. Kinda weird for Nintendo. :/

Fuck. Unfortunately Nintendo of America had to stick their noses in and shut down the project so I'll say this only once: Be VERY careful about where you guys download the link for the Pokémon Uranium. It is no longer available on the official website.
And I don't get why they would do that. I mean Pokémon uranium is a NON-PROFIT FAN BASED GAME. If anything, Nintendo should be flattered and look at it as a tribute to their work, that someone would spend YEARS making on their own time and probably budget, and also it would provide free publicity for them. Shame on you Nintendo, Shame on you. B-[ Also, if anybody DOES want a copy of the original from the website, they can PM me, and I can share my copy via skype or another method. It's a really awesome game you guys, I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with it.  And thank YOU BloodyTears92 for making a post about it. :) UNFORTUNATELY I was NOT able to obtain Urayne, because when I got to the Elite Four, (Championship) the Hokage who occasionally appears as one of the opponents does NOT have a team built for him, so a game crash message pops up and says something along the lines of 'ninja_boss no readable data' or something like that. Were you able to obtain Urayne, BloodyTears92 ? |

I havent made a ton of progress. I spent a few days really playing it, beat 2-3 gyms and have a handful of near-30's pokemon, but have since been distracted by a combination of heavy housework (My Mother figured she might as well have me do some hard jobs at home while I hunt for a new job, and she's in a stable job already, I cant say I disagree XD) as well as the fact I got back into Age of Empires 2 and Persona 3 Portable, as well as reading more Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
I'm juggling a lot and Uranium has taken a backseat for the last couple weeks XD

But yeah, lemme know when you get there; and if you find any other bugs I should be aware of. In the case of the championships, I saved before the Hokage, so I kinda hafta start over ahahaha. But I suspect saving BEFORE STARTING the championships and just restarting if the hokage is one of your opponents should fix the problem. Everybody else had viable pokemon teams. :]

The C&D in this situation feels similar to the C&D Sega sent at the fan version of Streets of Rage.
The company likely doesn't want to have to 'compete' with its fanbase when their own games release. (Sun/Moon is still a fair distance off, though.)
Anyway, it's a shame for anyone who was looking to get the game. I wasn't one of them, but I'll offer what condolences and sympathy I can to people who are going to have to be careful about downloading the game now.

OF WHICH THERE ARE NONE. It's not like you can play Pokemon Uranium on your choice of Nintendo hand-held device. So what competition, Nintendo?   |
