I was thinking at some point in my career, I would go through and do remasters for all of the igavanias (cotm included)
the deal would be this. I would take a month in between projects, and develop a proto of sotn, "like nothing seen before" this would be shown to konami, under these terms. I am allowed to port the existing igavanias, starting with sotn, all the way to ooe, one after another. I would not be paid by the company, however I would get a ~20/40% royalty, and I would be able to crowdfund as well. all of the games would be moddable on if not after release, and characters may be swapped between games. splitscreen is planned, network play is questionable.
konami is strictly worried about monetary gain. what better way to beat them at their own game than to not make them pay to begin with? I know its a touchy subject, and I would be degrading myself by doing this, but for the series to live on I am fine with that.
note on when I say remaster, all of the assets will be somewhat modified. the castles will be larger, enemies will have different placement and VERY different AI. overall it should be about twice as difficult as the original games, but also containing more content. thoughts below.

This might actually be a circumstance in which actually doing it without their permission might produce better results than asking them.
When it comes to copyright, it relies on the copyright holder to defend their IP. When Konami pulled out of the video game industry, they basically expressed their intent to NOT create and sell any more video games. Effectively, when it comes to Castlevania in the games industry, they plan on not making any money off of it. Not only that, but they've effectively killed their world wide presence and limited themselves to Japan, making it harder for them to defend their copyright. They may not even notice someone using their IP, honestly, especially if it's from overseas.
If they don't defend their copyright, they lose it, though they only lose it in certain ways. If you ever plan on making a Castlevania pachinko machine then you probably won't get anything done.
However there is actually already a precedent for people making "Castlevania" games. I Wanna Be The Guy used Castlevania assets in the game, though the game wasn't sold, it still became rather popular, and even used iconic elements of the franchise. You can still download IWBTG on the creators own site, which has been up for at least a decade. Simon Belmont has also been used in a variety of flash games. Normally I wouldn't qualify this as enough to limit their copyright, however Konami HAS expressed their every intention of completely backing out of the video game industry.
Though with this you wouldn't actually make money. You could offer them your proposition but I doubt they'll accept.

if i were you i'd just do it without asking them and release it as freeware so they cant claim you're making money off it (maybe have a donate button on the webpage though )

They're the one with all the money to sue you if they want to. Not all companies play nice. And donations were what did in Fighting is Magic. The safest way to do it is to keep it under wraps and keep it off the internet until the final version and THEN release it in a burst so it has chance to propagate before the copyright holder takes notice.

I said this in reply In the shoutbox earlier, but I will say it again. I have no plans on doing it for free. the key here is to have an agreement that konami will accept, EX: one that will actually make money. if development doesn't take anything and my team is only paid by profit, then konami has nothing to lose.
if konami doesn't accept, then I simply take my engine and remove any copywritten assets, and make my own game out of the leftovers. while a patreon or donations might be options, they aren't ones I feel like dealing with.

You mean in the style of Pokemon Uranium. Might work i guess but would be a one-shot thing and only very briefly available, i doubt dragonkd would go fo that. Interesting idea but i dont think they (konami) care enough to go for that, it's incredibly unlikely that they'd agree. Its probably safer and easier just to use original assets. It would certainly be interesting to see what you come up with and if it raises any eyebrows at konami. Speaking of game development hows Apart coming along?

glad that you ask, lately I haven't gotten much done because I have had to deal with everyday living. however, I have some things planned that should be easy to execute once I get started. the player can now get the spirit lantern. ------this will allow sirus to light savespots and decorrupting flames. ------decorrupting areas will allow traversal to other areas in most cases,as well as other changes to the environment. new area, the mountain path. ------goat knights for lack of a better name ------cliff based area, mostly uphill fighting. more enemies: demon bunnies, similar to fleamen but terrifying alraune blossoms, ------plants that have many functions and will have different variants. ------regular ground type, acts like a une ------any version can fall from the sky slowly ------variant that shoots poison spores that can spawn more blossoms ------venus fly trap variant probably a few more on the blossoms, they will make up the bulk of plant enemies. ghost thieves and musketeers
in either case, I see apart as my opportunity to prove myself as a developer. if it goes well, konami is my next target. I just hope I can get back on track. I cant work to my full ability while I have a full time job, and I wont be kickstarting until the game meets my standards.
my main issue is I believe the forest might need a complete redesign..... *facepalms
