So, this is meant as a side discussion to bloodstainedfanforums.com/thread/1003/playable-character-possibilitiesHere's the crux: Regardless of who the possible characters are; there's a few things I'd like to see. PoR is FANTASTIC with the design around two interchangeable protagonists, I'd like to see this extended to Bloodstained; but expanded upon. Here's a few problems/features of PoR that I dislike: Shared healthpool Shared manapool Shared level and experience So what I'd like to request is that all of these characters would be their own individual characters; their own health, mana, level, stats. etc. This would introduce it's own set of problems such as eventual hero under-leveling due to character preference; but there are proactive ways around that (exp sharing/sherman ring). I guess the big thing here is that each character should feel like a complete addition to the game, not a gimmick or cheap add-in.

I agree with the health and mana pool but the experience pool should be shared if you are playing in single player mode... I don't want to lv up three separate characters. I will if I have to but I don't want to.
now for multiplayer, I would love a completely separate everything,
but yeah other than that one thing I agree with you, characters should have separate everything.

if its for single player, its best they shared the EXP, HP and MP should be separate due to character types and such obviously, but the idea of having to level them up separately, having to replay old stages and switch back and forth sound tedious. So I have to agree with JeffCross But yeah, PoR style characters traveling and battling monsters together does sound like it would be a ton of fun.

Ok since this is the only thread about separate characters. So I would like to post a thought I had on the subject... what if the game had character specific bosses? Bosses that only one type of character can find or even fight. I think it would be cool when you search around and find an empty room and then go back to the room as a different character, and the only then will the boss appear.

Interesting notion... So far I just kind of assumed that the main story mode won't have the other playable characters in it but that they'd be accessable in separate modes. You know, like Albus mode in OoE or Julius Mode in AoS. I still think that this is the most probable outcome but who knows...

You know, like Albus mode in OoE or Julius Mode in AoS. I still think that this is the most probable outcome but who knows... yeah I know what your saying but in this game the characters are too fleshed out for them not to be part of the story... I'm just guessing but I think we will be able to play these characters in game in the main story... they might be able to switch out in "Miriam's room" if that will be a thing, from the some base or maybe from the main menu. But I seriously think the playable characters will not go the way of the "mode" characters from the past castlevanias... I do believe Gebel might go down that road though... This is all conjecture though, so I could be completely off the mark lol, who knows until the actual game comes out.

I agree, it could be a fun idea. The problem with having separate EXP is that to level up all the characters = you would have to spend that many more times the...time...lol to get them all =. And I understand you offered an ultimatum by having an item that splits up EXP, but what about until you get said item? You're just gunna have to spend more time LV'ing until you get this "Sherman" ring. Which doesn't sound appealing to me.
Everything else sounds good, just not the whole 'leveling up separately' part lol. :p

Well, all of that seems right to be except for the EXP sharing. It's probably best to share EXP or make an item that either give a character a lvl or two, when it is used. The unfortunate part is that anything that affects EXP like that would have either be quite rare and super useful or somewhat common and less useful (half a level or less). Halving EXP and sharing it with an item doesn't sound very appealing either.

well, on most previous igavanias only the main character set had equipment and a storyline. I don't believe storyline will be an issue, but the former might be. what I want to see is a rehash of the castle per character perspective. different start positions, relics, and enemy/wall placement. considering iga will be rolling out post release updates, why don't we have the base game mirriam come out first, then follow up with balancing of mirriams playthrough, along with hardmode/etc with new enemy placement and such by using player feedback, throw the next character in to boil while players are playing hardmode content, giving iga team time to change the castle layout slightly etc.
on a side not, my project APART will have updates as follows. initial release: main game, essential content, updates with new areas, enemies and equipment.
each update will start with me patching existing bugs, rebalancing, and then adding the new planned content. after all is said and done and I am satisfied with the project as a whole, I will return to my den and rebuild the game from scratch. the built rerelease will include everything I have learned from developing and user feedback, as well as exposing all assets to modification and extension. but hey, that's just how I plan to do things.
