Ben Judd was actually the one who said "It's better than nothing" but due to poor journalism and horrible out of context quoting by said journalism we have another meme on our hands. I won't defend the game but it seems to me like those articles were deliberately trying to stir the pot, and I can't approve of that. You are 100% correct. Ben even said "but that's my opinion." Thanks for pointing that out, both of you. There's almost always a good reason or explanation behind things like that. The worst thing about the internet is that it's like a never-ending version of "telephone game" paired with our desire/want to know about things that interest us. Human behavior sucks like that. I can't wait for a giant meteor to wipe us all out so it can finally stop.
The MN9 documentary from 2Player Productions released a new episode a few days ago. I noticed our favorite sexy agent, Ben Judd, was wearing a Mighty No. 69 shirt on the Kickstarter livestream footage. Awwwwww yeaaaaaaah.

I see. I guess I should apologize as the first one in the thread who linked to an article that attributed 'Better then nothing' to Inafune. I greatly dislike in assisting the spread of misinformation.

It's a little frustrating in a way. We're very harsh on this game in particular, while many bad games have come out in the past that we have just brushed off. It's just the fact that this one was through kickstarter that placed so many hopes and expectations on it. I feel bad in a way that we're so critical, but I do not feel guilty, it is justified.
Still, I don't feel that people like Inafune need to leave the industry. Everyone involved simply needs to learn from the experience, and if they wish to continue their career, to use that experience to better their future games.

I think they promised to many platforms and stretched the team to thin. They might have been able to put development time into the game and its versions individually if they had cut the last gen consoles out of the equation. The problem was 2013 was a transitional year and alot of people still had the last gen consoles and not supporting them might have hurt the campaign. Bloodstained kind of got a free pass in that regard because it was kickstarted in 2015 and the amount of people using only last gen consoles had thinned out significantly.

The word you're looking for is "Hype". Remember Daikatana? While it was nowhere near as disastrous, it's EXACTLY the same thing. A lot of promises that they simply failed to deliver. Should they be criticized for that? YES. Very, VERY YES. That's why the other bad games don't get such a reaction: the other bad games had 0 hype around them.

Okay so I bought the game on steam, played for about 45 minutes, cleared Tutorial and No.2 Cryosphere. Here are some of my opinions on MN9:
1. Japanese dub is significantly better than English version. They sound less bland and more intriguing. 2. MN9 is nowhere to be a "bad game", it's a decent Megaman-style game (more like original series than X, since there's no charge shot and wall-jumping). 3. Dash and Combo System is actually really fun to play, in result made this game has even faster pace than original Megaman. Yes, almost infinite air dash, you can even change the direction while dashing in the air! 4. Game's challenging, but not "difficult" IMO. There are some areas with instant death traps that might be annoying at first, but that's okay I guess. 5. Music is there, but does nothing more than a normal BGM. Not memorable at all, except the main menu one, that one is great. 6. Graphic is ugly, in-game it seems okay, but this game has cutscenes, which is totally ruined by the bad character model. They look like some plastic figures with eyes made from paper snapped on. Just see Call in the main stage selection screen you'll know what I mean.
All in all, a decent, challenging game with bad graphics and normal music. It's okay to call it a Megaman clone with new system introduced, but "spiritual successor" might be too big for its quality. Buy it on sale or in bundle is recommended.

I'm waiting for the red shirt that says "Sexy Agent" at the top then has a big oval portrait picture of Bens face then says on the bottom curved around the oval "Better Than Nothing"

That was a very long post but read all of it and I feel enlightened. It's just like one comment I remember a few years ago that I read. That Keiji Inafune is not a fan or maybe it said gamer, but a businessman. Even at that though if he made lots of money from this it's a one trick pony since almost nobody will trust him again. I didn't back this project since I really didn't grow up playing megaman games although I did play Battle Network 3 Blue but that's a different animel, but I was planning to buy the game a couple of years ago thinking it'be a good game on the Vita etc. Glad I didn't lose any money on it and it's too bad for you other guys. I will say this though. If there's one thing the guy managed to do (even though as the original kickstarter guy he failed on his own game) is inspire other people like IGA that were in a similar boat but without any malicious intentions to do this crowdfunding thing and am sure and I mean sure Bloodstained will be how things were meant to happen. I won't say there won't be difficulties and rough decisions to be made but am certain they'll come out with a great game.

Poor Ben. It looks to me like he's pretty upset about this. I do hope this matter gets cleared up soon, but as Balrog stated so succinctly on Twitter, "TOO LATE IT'S ALREADY A MEME!"

I feel sorry for Ben because the way the game turned out isn't his fault but I have to say I consider him much cleverer than someone that doesn't really know what happened. Even if some of those comments were added by him and weren't translated from what Inafune said it's clear that he is damage controlling and he doesn't have much choice really. Sure bad luck was also a factor in the project but Inafune made so many bad (for the fans not for him) decisions with this project and there's evidence of lies and other shady and underhanded practices that he and his company performed with this project. I don't believe an experienced man like him did all this by accident. He knew what he was doing and what he was trying to accomplish being so ambitious and that's fine and everything but if you want to go to war with nothing on be prepared that one fatal wound and it's over. He purposely put himself in this position. Am sure Ben would have a different opinion if he wasn't involved professionally in this because the game didn't "turn out to be one of Inafune's bad one" out of the blue. It be great if you guys could talk in your podcast Mike, I would find that interesting but I think it's unlikely he'll be able to say much more about this.

I will not be talking anymore MN9 in the BCB unless it's unavoidable. The episode where Gunlord and I talk about it has plenty of that, and for that reason was not mentioned in the Bloodstained update.
IGA respects Inafune, and we were critical of MN9 in ways that some may or may not deem insulting. Personally, I don't think we were insulting, but I completely agree that it's best to avoid leaving people's interpretation of what we said out of part of an official update. I'd hate for my words to be twisted like Ben's were.
Leaving that episode out is completely understandable and acceptable to me.
I do hope that the Axiom Verge episode gets included in this next update. Tom Happ was a great guest and I consider that one of the best shows.

A) Part of my frustration with the MN9 situation is that there are real critiques to make about how it was handled and the nature of the final product but some people are so salty that they are content making up problems to feel further justified in their anger. Cries of "con", "scam", "$4 MILLION!", etc. just get eye-rolls from me at this point. This "at least its better than nothing" thing was just a big nothingburger. A shame Ben caught flack for it.
B) With all the hype of the demo and whatnot, it slipped my mind that the BCB Episode 6 wasn't mentioned in the KS update. I felt your discussion of MN9 was critical but respectful. I can understand if FanGamer/whoever didn't want to include it but I hope in the future you don't avoid subjects you feel are actually important to talk about just because maybe FanGamer/whoever don't want to talk about them or won't mention them in the KS updates.

I am several hours into the game and I don't think it is nearly as bad the mainstream gaming press is making it out to be. It feels like a semi-accurate modern take on Megaman and despite cheap deaths at times I think it is relatively fun overall. The background could have more detail and the frame rate isn't always stable on my Wii U copy but I don't think the ladder is as big a problem in other versions. I have noticed some minor improvement in that department since yesterdays patch though.

Thankfully, I managed to get my game code okay yesterday. I still think this game's pretty fun. It's kinda like a fast paced Mega Man game.
..I almost wanna say it feels little bit like a cross between MM and Sonic, when I stop and think about it. :p

I never did back it. But I've followed it since the Kickstarter. But I did get the digital version to give it a try.
I don't subscribe to reviewers on any game. So I don't follow what is being criticized of this game. That bandwagon has gone big and long enough to the point anyone will take a shot.
If 'I' like it, then great. If 'I' DS don't, then I at least gave it the ol college try.
