What I want to know is what is taking them so long? Think of how long the game in itself took to create. Five years, really? I have not been impressed with one single aspect of this game, and I eagerly waited for it those five years. What a jip.

I agree with you in regards to RotN Kandrax. We only have Bloodstained because Konami would not make a 2D sequel to SotN. They have to have someone reading the tons of forums out there where people are still talking about SotN and how bad they wish there was a true sequel. Anyway, while you're in the inverted library, don't forget to fight the Schmoo for 45 minutes until you get the Crissaegrim

It is a fair comparison. Bloodstained has already been released. And it's the spiritual successor to Symphony of the Night, which is why it's so popular and sold so much in the first place. You think if Iga did not suggest that he was making a 2D copy of SotN that it would be as popular? No it would not be. I don't think anyone cares about what's (possibly) about to be added in the future. When that time comes (in how many years? haha), then we can do another comparison.
So you seem to be defending RotN, fine. As I have said, it's a great game. Just SotN is better in multiple ways, specifically atmosphere and music. I was expecting much more in RotN. If they do add to the current map, they need to make the game twice as big as it currently is. It is humorously too short of a game.

Yeah the little glitches were definitely fun, not a bother. We all need to get together, have 100k people sign something to send to Konami to make another 2D Castlevania, with banging SotN-like music and is super long

I find RotN to be too easy even on hard mode. A "very hard" mode would be good. It's also way too short of a game. Was expecting much more. Nightmare? I haven't tried nightmare. I don't see how you can progress through the game without gaining levels.

This poll seems like 3 different questions Longer does not mean more enjoyable i think BloodStained is longer but enjoyed playing Symphony more so with the music tie breaker Symphony wins my vote About the length of RotN, what I mean is that if you look at the map and ALLLLL of the blank spots, it's really not that big, at all. It may be a larger castle than SotN, but come on, it's 22 years later and Iga could have created a MUCH larger castle, with more unique areas, making the game much better. Yes SotN's music crushes RotN. However I am not saying RotN's music is bad. Just saying I expected better music. So my drive to make this thread is to see if others felt the same way as I do. RotN is a good, fun game. HOWEVER when compared to SotN, it's just not that great. SotN's environment, music, characters and fun factor were all better. I also made this post in the hopes that the developers read it, and change things for Bloodstained 2 (or perhaps Konami will hire Iga back to make a SotN sequel, or remake SotN to high definition! lol)

I thought everyone would think I'm bonkers if I said that SotN was more pleasing to the eye. RotN is graphically updated / more modern, is what I meant.

I don't know how excited I am about Zangetsu being a playable character. But yeah if O.D. is a playable character that will be really awesome.

When people read this post, and then think about the two games, I think they immediately think about the visual beauty of RotN. But I am referring to overall fun factor. Which game is more enjoyable to play, not referring to graphics. Maybe I should have stated from the beginning, to try and compare the two with imagining that SotN was a high definition 2019 game just as RotN is.... SotN is still a better game, and it's 22 years old

You guys will eventually have to move on, if you haven't yet. It's something I had to do myself. Good Konami CV has no signs of existing again, and definitely not a SotN 2.0, and it's not fair to the person to let that hold them back from enjoying something new. Another great point. However my thoughts are that RotN is simply not as enjoyable and desirable to play as SotN, which is odd to me because it had the potential to be so much more. I don't understand why the game is so short/small. There are not enough enemies. I thought there would be more unique weapons. SotN had better weapons in my opinion. And I'm just disappointed in RotN's music a bit. With that said, I am in fact very happy that RotN has been developed, and I do hope to see RotN 2. I just hope that it's much, much bigger, and that they concentrate on game play and fun factor, exploration, etc. Not boobs and necessary grinding for hours to upgrade shards and weapons.

I don`t even have to think about this, definitely Symphony. There are so many reasons. I love 2D sprites, especially love how Alucard moves. He is so much better character than Miriam. Maybe Zangetsu will save Bloodstained, but I am not fan of Miriam. She is not even a memorable character visually when everyone customizes her to look different. I love Dracula lore and I am not really interested in this Bloodstained story. That castle in SotN had meaning, this one in Bloodstained does not. It was a way to recreate Castlevania and trying to make some sense, but the castle must be Dracula`s castle and this one is, too, it is obvious. This is a SoTN/AoS/DoS/OoE clone without Dracula lore and trying to fit everything in another story. I am glad "IGA" is there as a boss in the throne room, it is actually IGA having a role of Dracula. I prefer monsters from SotN than Bloodstained, the latter one has some very goofy enemies. The music and the feel of the game is better in Symphony. The atmosphere and all the little details are amazing in Symphony. There is some sophisticated nudity in Symphony that can be appreciated more than just big boobs from Bloodstained. Artwork is much nicer in Symphony, I don`t really like artwork for Bloodstained. Symphony just has this magical feel that I don`t get with Bloodstained. I hope IGA can work once again with Castlevania in the future. Very well said.

I also hated the inverted castle rav4ishing, and everything you mentioned about it. Remember the part in the Underground Caverns where you had to super jump to the ceiling, then quickly morph into the wolf in order to clear the room? I did love the enemies however. Schmoo But no, I definitely do not like SotN better because it came out first. I am trying to just concentrate on fun factor and overall enjoyment of playing through the two games. SotN is far more enjoyable as far as fun factor and music. However it's very outdated, but that wasn't the point of this thread.

Yes I agree about the inverted castle in SotN. I did not exactly like that. However, it was part of the game and you have to consider it in the game's overall length. That's what I was trying to point out about it. I can't believe everyone like Miriam over Alucard, lol. I think people are choosing her because she's a sexy female. I am just talking about cool factor. Can't beat a half human half vampire that can morph into animals! What would be great is if Konami hired Iga back, specifically to make a 2D sequel to SotN Make the game like 8x as long, with dark kick ass music. I like the opinions. Keep them coming.

Hello everyone. This is NOT a complaint, do not attack me. I'm trying to see if everyone else feels the same way when comparing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Also I fully understand that Iga had to consider making RotN just different enough to avoid being sued by Konami.
So I have played through Castlevania: SotN many, many times. I wrote an impressive walkthrough for the game (used to be downloadable on my old Mighty Mo's World emulation website back in the day).
I finished Bloodstained: RotN, both easy and hard modes. Have 100% everything. I have to say, that while I do like the game very much, when compared to SotN, I am not incredibly impressed. This is considering that the game took what, 5 years to make? And over 20 years after SotN was released. I was expecting a gigantic SotN clone that would take months to finish. Instead, I played about three hours a day and finished it in a week. Was able to get to level 99 in a matter of days when fighting the correct enemies and using the correct books. I never achieved level 99 in SotN (I don't think). RotN is very short in my opinion. In fact, I think that SotN is actually a longer game. When people read this, they may look at the hours spent playing between the two games. You have to consider that RotN requires you to spend many, many hours grinding enemies in order to collect items and money to craft other items. So, with that being a consideration, you cannot compare the two games in terms of length based on number of hours spent playing. SotN was just as big of a castle as RotN if you include the inverted castle.
Then there's the music. RotN is nice, however SotN's music is far better. If you have not listened to the SotN soundtrack in a while, go ahead and do so.
Then there's the character, Miriam. Who thinks that Alucard was a far cooler playable character? Half vampire, half human. I know that RotN will eventually have more playable characters, but.... Iga's initial plan was to make the main character a male. He should have stuck with this. Miriam is cool, but I think it was the wrong decision. There's also too much sexuality in the game, making it feel that they developers spent time concentrating on that rather than a true gothic type game (I'm not complaining, trust me. But this is a game, and it feels much more immature than SotN).
Finally SotN is just a more darker, gothic environment. Sure RotN visually looks more impressive (it's been over 20 years), but in my opinion, SotN has the more accurate, darker castle.
So, what is everyone's overall opinion. Really consider the things I pointed out. I'm hoping that Bloodstained 2 is muuuuuch longer, with better music and a darker setting.

No one wants long cut scenes and have to read through a story. The storyline as is currently, is fine and doesn't need to be any longer.

Yes I agree that the portraits are kind of goofy as well. Does not fit the expected atmosphere at all. I hope Iga is not playing around too much with this game. I hope he's taking it as seriously as Symphony of the Night. I'm not exactly excited that the playable character is a girl either. I mean compared to Alucard, with him being a tough half vampire being, he was so much cooler.
