I think it's a little too slow when standing otherwise i think the animation should stay the same. This isn't castlevania so to have the whip have a different feel is good. Plus it's a REALLY cool animation.

Yup completely agree. I'll state ( since i've been pretty negative so far in all these threads despite loving what I played ) that I love what they're doing WITH the button input stuff in terms of the input's themselves and the cool visual ideas they've come up with regarding them. However, I agree with purifyweirdshard that what made them awesome is them being unique to special weapons and not a weapon type. Fire sword having a fire special input...etc.

BloodyHell I love this post cuz it hits everything I had issues with regarding the visuals. It could be applied to other things too. When you talk about Cannon's being the same color or a tree branch not being brown. It's the same issues i have with the castle entrance, so many objects could have color in the background but don't. Here's an example of that in the church 2017 demo. Look under Miriam. The cross designs the statues....... that screams color me but it just stays the same color as everything else.

ValtielI actually agree that the rain effects are a bit TOO strong. Tone it down inside the ship more and keep it similar when you're on the top of the ship and it'd be great.

To be honest. even 2017 > Story Trailer is a huge downgrade, and I do think the story trailer is operating off of outdated footage (no gold trim on the stairs, moco weed thing in the village) Development Update 9 Story Trailer Lighting is pretty good in the story trailer but it's still gray gray gray gray gray. The red carpet has dulled and is barely recognizable, the pillars have been greyed out, the windows in the back are hardly visible, losing a lot of the scope and color for the place. Also back to a previous tangent, freddythemonkey I found the quote from Angel. Apparently I saved it somewhere.Yeha that Yeah it looks much better in that first pic.

dareka I don't know why people say concept art. Looks in-engine graphics to me. A lot of it looks like stuff that is STILL in the 2018 shot. Nowhere did it EVER say it's concept ART. It's in-engine graphics.

savingprincess Lighting is definitely a big issue there but it's still incredibly bland. To see a huge environment without a single unique color to it. Here maybe this will better describe what i mean. There's gray but there's purple walls, golden statues, gold trim. Remember what i said about golden statues, golden trim. There's objects below the steps and not a single one has color. They LOOK like they should have color but dont. That's what i mean.

Astaroth Yeah but there's gotta be a way to better tackle that. I think the problem is what works well in 2D just doesn't as well in 2.5d. Gray might have been fine for locations in 2D games but with 3D it looks super bland and boring. I hate being critical of this project because I really like all the people involved. Honestly the visuals are the only issue I really have with the game. So at least the game itself is fantastic and incredibly fun. I'm never disappointed by IGAVANIA gameplay.

Astaroth Having gray be a different color to separate it from other areas is fine but there still should be other colors mixed in. At times it looks like they literally forgot to color an area. Here's a good example - Look behind Zangetsu....it's just completely devoid of ANY color. It looks incredibly bland. Having gray be a focus for an area is fine but sprucing it up with lighting and more color helps make it look far more alive and interesting. I hate to use mirror of fate as an example but look Gray walls but all the columns being red with gold, the symbols behind the portaits having red in them, the cloth like emblem on one of the walls has a greenish color with gold trim. There's a mix...Not to mention the lighting really lights up the environment well and creates a mood. The best way to say it is, in the castle entrance there's a lot of objects in the background that look like objects that should have color but don't. So it's offputting a bit.

As said though it seems to be specific to the Castle area because the boat definitely did improve and feels much more in line with the Jan 2016 pic. Very nice lighting and detail.

I’m just saying guys mock up or not those graphics shouldn’t be unattainable. It largely looks similar to the bottom two but with a stronger lighting effect that lights up the whole wall and a foggy type background effect. I’m saying stop discrediting it’s best look... use EACH period of time to make the point. It’s the best way. I’ve seen plenty of 2.5d games that look on level or better than that first pic and again the boat comes close to that’s level now. The castle does not.
The castle for whatever reason looks worse.

lovelydumpling I rather push the example that best represented the game conceptual or not than push the second best thing. If they can't hit the conceptualized idea fine but at least push the one thing where it looked it's absolute best. Aim high so you can get the best out of the project, don't aim mid tier. As i've already said, let's not act like they couldn't get close to hitting that shot because the boat was GREATLY improved visually and looks somewhat comparable to that 2016 shot. It's got great lighting, LOADS of effects, and color.

estebant I mean yeah it's outdated but......does that matter? The point is it looks it's BEST then and it's far from that originally aim. lovelydumplingNice spot. I didn't even realize SOTN did that stuff but yeah a blurred background with a foggy look does a great job at making the environment look vast. There's a beauty to it too due to the hue being colored.

purifyweirdshard Yeah that's the best pic to use if you want to point out a downgrade. I tried to do a comparison using shapes so people can focus in on important areas for points. CircleIn the circle you can notice the background details had a foggy hue to them originally. It gave the backgrounds more depth and beauty. TriangleYou can see loads more detail in objects. From the blood details on the bottom of the columns to even little things like the stairs just looking nicer. RectangleLighting effects. The lighting effects were far far far more prominent originally. It gave the environments loads more life but without those lighting effects it feels very lifeless. I hope this helps. Angel-Corlux This is probably the clearest cut comparison. That's not to say visuals haven't improved though because the boat probably is the clearest example of how much it's gotten better with details and lighting. For whatever reason though the castle entrance went downhill. Most people on forums when they saw that first pic thought the game was great looking visually and the move away from that style hurt it I think. I don't know if it's just too much work to get it at that level and deliver the game on time but I have a feeling if the game looked like that all around people wouldn't complain AT ALL about the visuals.

dareka I've seen plenty of 2.5 games that look this detailed. I don't know if I agree with your assessment ..because there are areas in the game that actually do look quite good visually like the village and the boat. I think the problem is simple.....all those other locations i referenced and that original picture with the red windows have color to them and it helps make them look more alive...they have good lighting to them. Look at that background....it's not about detail it's about an environment looking bland due to a lack of color and lighting. This pic looks perfectly in line with the original pic in terms of detail AND lighting and the newer boat is even MORE detailed and has even better lighting.

It looks like they made everything brighter so you notice the color more but there's gotta be a way to increase the color but have that darker look.

lovelydumplingWhy would you not want to agree? I know it's kinda uncomfortable to be overly critcial but if it benefits the project then so be it. The boat location wouldn't be as detailed as it is today without the criticism, let alone Vepar who changed A LOT. That original Castle entrance pic looks fantastic and even the most negative of the negative Neogaf users were positive about those visuals since then people have been quite negative. I don't know why they moved away from that look but that look is what people expected I think.
