I think, speaking in general terms, that has a lot to do with the fact that a classic "good vs. evil" story is considered 'not enough' these days, having an irredeemably evil villain and an unwaveringly good hero is considered boring at best, lazy at worst. Just looking at television and movies, you see popular media like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones where almost nobody is classically good or evil. Breaking Bad is, as much as Ive heard having not seen it, an entire cast of people where the protagonist is only the hero because his opponents are even worse. Even the MCU, people prop up the heroes and especially the villains who have more gray and complex morals like Thanos or Killmonger. The best Ive seen from truly evil villains is with ones like Dio from Jojo or Red Skull from Captain America, where the character is so charismatic and entertaining nobody cares they arent very complicated. I get this sentiment, and I generally agree with it, but sometimes it's refreshing to have something so pure in storytelling. You can really wholeheartedly rally around the hero and feel like the villain needs to be put in their place against all odds. All the extra weight they tried to add in LoS, for example, making a Belmont into Dracula and stuff, just felt like it was there for shock value. Concerning the discussion of Pure Evil, I refer you all to this bit of Trope Talk:

Yea, if IGA had listened to the whiniest, the loudest, and most toxic feedback, the game would be 100% hand drawn and 2D.
Don't forget ballooning up Vepar even more.

Funny thing, I've been seeing comments on Youtube and such that people are saying they are going to buy the game now just based on the new trailer's "confident" tone. They say they like the defiant attitude and that the developers listened to feedback. Bloodstained might get to be a success as a "social movement," regardless of the game itself, which is just bizarre. But if the game benefits from it, it can't hurt, and people might find they actually like the game itself.
It's not that surprising, honestly. Despite all our capacity for logical thinking, humans are often driven emotionally. The "tone" can matter far more than the content itself. Emotion can get you in; it's after that when quality comes into play to keep the players coming back. It's part of the reason people often say if you really want to know how good a game is, look at the sales of its sequel.

But when I think about it, when you play a Zelda game, you can at least count on Link having a sword and shield, and you can also count on Mega Man having his Mega Buster, or Mario having the ability to jump on top of enemies to defeat them. Not in the original non-Super variety. ALL IS LIES!
Anyways, like I said, I think there's room for both and Castlevania may very well be having a revival between Smash Ultimate, the Netflix series, Grimoire of Souls, Requiem, the Anniversary Collection, and the rumored "Bloodstained-killer" that Konami is rumored to have (but there's a ton of salt with that in multiple senses). As I said in the Shoutbox, I think Castlevania is likely to get a renaissance in part due to Bloodstained's presence, just as Mighty No. 9 led to Mega Man 11 and The Last Airbender film led to the creation of The Legend of Korra, among many others. Granted, it's a bit more indirect and Bloodstained isn't about to be as bad as the other examples. This is less about wiping away a "stain" as it is having worthy competition to inspire all to do better.
Honestly though, I think a narrow definition of what IS Castlevania isn't sensible. Given all the portmanteaus used for the series (Classicvania, Metroidvania, 3Dvania, God of Vania, etc.), it's obvious there are a lot of different styles in this single series. It's really quite impressive since the NES trilogy is often held up as showing the dangers of straying from formula (Simon's Quest, the American SMB2, and The Adventure of Link are typically the big remembered examples of this) but IGA's influence on Symphony led to something new but still (in my opinion) definitively Castlevania and the series subsequently had a multitude of styles in both mainline titles and side stories.
Personally, I look forward to whatever comes and indeed I hope IGA can take advantage of having a much more open reality/timeline to play with. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be one of those cases where the limitations are what allow for the best artistic work.

Actually, the Switch versions were originally listed as expected for late June due to the time needed for Switch cartridge manufacture. I think some of the Classic Editions may have been similarly slated, but all non-Switch versions are listed for May at this point, so congrats to the early recipients.
Regardless, according to LRG's Production Updates and Shipping Room, all of the various standard editions are indeed shipping now. The various Classic Editions are listed as "Currently in manufacturing, shipping dates TBA."

Hmmmmkay, I suppose I should restructure my thinking on a possible second collection given what's happened. IF a second collection is actually coming, Rondo is in question for two reasons. One, it's older than the youngest title of the first collection (Bloodlines). Two, it's in the already extant Requiem with SotN. As such, I am going to give RichterB what he wants and go with the SNES version. I personally don't think it would be (especially since the double-pack excuse would mean SotN would be kept out of a collection group honoring the series as a whole and that's just WRONG), but we're going this route for now. In addition, Kid Dracula for the Game Boy is also out for two reasons - being partially a remake of the Famicom original and being older than Bloodlines. X68000 is also older than Bloodlines, so if the Battle of 1692 shows up AGAIN, it's gonna be Chronicles. While I'm inclined to think remakes of titles from previous collections would not happen since this is about tributes to the originals as much as possible, I'm making an exception here in hopes of something much later. Legends, the N64 titles, and Circle of the Moon are dependent on non-canon being acceptable. I'm going with acceptable, but I think only Legacy of Darkness's expanded version of its predecessor will be used. Finishing out the second collection would be a return of the GBA Double Pack contents, HoD and AoS. Thus, my current guess for a second collection is... Dracula X (most likely Rondo, but possibly SNES) Symphony of the Night (most likely the original, but in avoiding Requiem again, we're going to say this is the Saturn version) Legends Legacy of Darkness (effectively the "complete" version of both N64 games) Circle of the Moon Chronicles (or less likely, X68000) Harmony of Dissonance Aria of Sorrow From there, if we presume at least one more collection, we get to the reason I wanted Chronicles in the second...so that Adventure ReBirth can eventually appear (if the various ReBirths don't get their own collective release). This would also be where the DS trilogy and the PS2 titles (though I could see LoI being on the previous collection as it was released only a few months after AoS) would be included. I'm not sure if it would stay at eight games or drop to a smaller number as things get steadily more advanced, so this could be a single 8-game collection or a pair of 6-game collections (also depending whether or not Lords of Shadow gets included or not). As such, for now, I'm just sticking with my guesses for a second collection and waiting to see if even THAT has a chance.

DSLevantine is referring to Curse of the Moon being cancelled for GOG, cyberakuma , not Ritual of the Night. In truth, it was less cancelled and more never intended and not properly communicated to folks. That's more on Inti's policies than anything else, but with the Limited Run release, maybe that's going to change (wouldn't plan on it, though).

And yes, it turns out the switch consoles at the show were overheating.
Oh for one to crash from overtemp when Miriam uses the Fire Cannon shard. Or even better, burst into flames when a lit cannon fires! The ultimate real-world integration!

Recently I have played Hollow knight and I think it is a masterpiece, a game with beautiful art, music, tight gameplay, hard but enjoyable, really a unique game. After playing it, I look forward to the sequel Silksong even more than Bloodstained RotN. Hey Mr. Welldone, I think this guy would like a word.

To avoid confusion, the generally accepted abbreviations are HoD for Harmony of Dissonance and HD for Harmony of Despair (because it's also in high-def). And yeah, I agree with RichterB that given all the phrasing about this collection thus far, I don't expect Simon's Quest until a second collection. What I am curious about is how they'll split the series overall. If this is indeed a Classicvania collection as we expect, other than the four we already have, I expect Bloodlines and Rondo are givens. The interesting thing is whether or not X68000/Chronicles will also be included since that would effectively make three versions of the same basic game. Add Haunted Castle and it's you've got half the collection being about Simon facing Drac. However, I would hope The Adventure ReBirth and possibly Castlevania Legends would be included instead. That would next give us the question of what eight would be in the Metroidvania collection. That's fairly obvious, I think - Simon's Quest, Symphony, Circle, Harmony, Aria, Dawn, Portrait, and Ecclesia. If Legends does indeed get in the first, I'd consider that better odds for Circle in this one. If not, substitute the MSX title Vampire Killer instead as it's fairly close to a Metroidvania reinterpretation of the original game. If a third collection happens, it would be the 3Dvanias. Again, presuming non-canon games are viable, I figure Legacy of Darkness, Lament, Curse, and possibly Dracula X Chronicles on its own. If the Lords of Shadow games are included, probably drop DxC and expand it to six games total. Now, if there ISN'T a third collection planned, it's possible the second half of the known upcoming collection will be 3D titles which are still closer to the classic style. In that case, it's going to be REALLY truncated overall and Mirror of Fate would likely be the 3D title for the second collection (and MAYBE DxC at a stretch). Overall, this "best" planned setup leaves a few of the versions of Simon's battle of 1692, the SNES Dracula X, Castlevania 64 (not alone, at least), Judgment, Encore of the Night, and Harmony of Despair as well as any other minor releases left out even with three collections. Maybe those could be a fourth "Other" collection, presuming there isn't a split of original timeline 3D games and LoS games into two separate collections. Honestly though, I doubt a fourth collection is going to happen in any case.
This is all supposition, of course. We'll see what we actually get in the future.

I just had a hilarious/horrifying thought...what if Epic itself manages to properly port Bloodstained to Mac and Linux but insists on exclusivity to give those fixes? Oh THAT'LL be a mess.

Samus Returns suffered from being a remake released on a system on its way out (be honest Ninty, we all know it's true) and dealing with backlash from the actions towards AM2R. Plus, Metroid has never been huge sales-wise despite a lot of people considering on par with Zelda and Mario (primarily outside Japan).
Plus, there are about 75 million 3DSes to 200 million Game Boys (including Color and Advance) and the sales figures are for physical only.

If I remember correctly, don't both Steam and GOG give you access to Mac/Linux versions alongside Windows if they're available when you purchase a title? As such, if the issue is ever resolved in the future (which is, to be fair, a REALLY BIG if), you'd get access even if you only get a Windows version at the start.
Mind, that won't fix any physical media you get from backing and given the outright cancellation rather than delay it's not likely to happen, but it's still something to consider.
