Well maybe it isn't in previous games, but they did have unique damage animations. In a few sprites here you see different damage animations. He also has damaged sprites that are unique to Wolf and Bat form. Richter Belmont did as well, and I think Maria too in the Saturn version. Variety is the spice of life after all.

If you have an "infinite" inventory space, I see no problem with just collecting items you don't know when or if you'll need ("useless"). What if there are separate tabs like "Weapons" "Armor" "Crafting Materials" "Relics" "Key Items"? That way you can save mats and forget them. And what about item recipes dropping, or let's say you spend gold to learn from Johannes (who is currently speculated to be the person crafting for you). I half agree with ghaleon with his method for materials dropping. As long as mats aren't scaling I think it would work. As an example let's say mats are like gems from Diablo 3, where you could have 3 of tier 1 gem, then upgrade it to a tier 2 gem, then you need 3 tier 2 gems to get to tier 3... That to me is a pointless grind. Exponential growth of needed materials doesn't add to quality gameplay, it just adds hours to gameplay. I enjoy area specific enemies dropping different materials. That way you aren't stuck in one part of the castle all game.

I completely forgot about this aspect of the game to be honest. Having varied horrible demises for the protagonist and villains alike is something that adds a sense of excitement to the gameplay.
For all my championing of complete artistic freedom I am hoping for something falling a little short of let's say Mortal Kombat Fatalities.

What I like about these games are the many different items. They usually span many different eras. I would be surprised if we didn't have items thousands of years apart.

Granted. You are now the Avatar! But out of nowhere some kid from the Amazon of Brazil, raised by a Kayapo Indian shaman, comes by and shouts "Heart!" Now your hair turns green, your skin turns blue, you sound like Al Gore and spend the rest of your days picking up trash.
I wish for the letter "L" to disappear from the English language.

Also, sorry for reiterating things, but the more I think about it the more I want some way to instantly check the progress of possible crafting goals. Would people here consider it a spoiler to have access to some basic info (maybe just name and type) about an item that you only have some of the ingredients for? I know I would just be printing out a guide if it wasn't available in game, and would much rather get that sense of progress and achievement from within the game. Might I suggest Features you'd love to appear (Submitted). Now it is already done but I think some suggestions you mentioned have already been passed along to Iga and his team. A personal quote from myself: Relevant item bolded. 1. Visual changes to character when equipping items. 2. Button input spells. 3. Transformations. 4. A secret castle. 5. Bestiary. 6. A spell Grimoire of some sort. 7. Item compendium.8. Basically anything that reminds me of SotN. Edit: 9. And most importantly I want cute female monsters. ex: Alura Une, Harpy, Medusa, Succubus, etc.

I'm not a big fan of crafting in general, because of 2 reasons: 1) finding a "useless" item that might be useful for something later will never be as fun as finding an actual piece of equipment. 2) you now need to get several drops from several different enemies for the same result as one drop from one enemy earlier. This increases grinding, which is something I would like to avoid. Because of this, I second that it's really important to still have a wide variety of equipment that can be found directly. I also think that it is incredibly important to always have access to a list of what can be crafted. Not a complete one from the start, but maybe have it show you what a certain crafting item can be used to make. That way you get some gratification immediately in seeing that you are getting closer to some crafting goal. I would also prefer to be able to craft anywhere, because it becomes old really quickly to have to backtrack (AND then return to where you were actually going) every time you want to make something. If crafting is featured heavily, having only one place will result in a lit of people only going there rarely, making lots of things at the same time. Making several weapons, only being able to use one and therefore missing out on playing around with the others. Would you be opposed to "finished" items to be found off enemies, or in certain rooms, but crafting counterparts be stronger and take longer to make? In other words regular items are readily available without crafting, completely viable to beat the game, but crafted items be far stronger or have unique abilities? As for crafting on the go, what about different levels of crafting? Regular crafting can be done anywhere, Rare crafting requires an additional material but can be done anywhere, and Epic crafting requires let's say a recipe and you to be in a specific forge room? This way people who hate crafting don't have to use it, people who like instant gratification can expend a purchasable item to craft slightly better items anywhere, and hard core grinding fans will have to put effort and time into items with cool backstories.

I agree, a helmet is a lifesaver. I recall Vegetius (Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus) complaining that the Romans had become lazy and stopped training with helmets of full weight. I personally like the look of the chalcidian helmet, especially the ones with the reinforced cranial ridge. I am a classics major though so it is expected of me to be biased. Those things are works of art! But as long as the helmet doesn't have horns or anything easy to grab hold of it should be practical enough! Edit: Since you are a classics major, I thought you might appreciate this.

Wish granted. Sadly the influx of magic to make this happen has warped spacetime. Konami went bankrupt in 1985, 1 year before Castlevania, thus it was never made.

Her legs are essentially completely covered because of the higher base armor and the fact that she could pivot to cover that area with her hanging side armor. Miriam would have to outright dodge hence why I find the leg armor to be an issue (from an irl view). Hopefully that clears things up, I don't want to drag this off topic any further One thing to mention about leg armor (which was rarely seen unless a full suit of armor was involved) is that it wasn't necessary. Most combatants either used a long range melee weapon (spear), had a shield (like a buckler for 1 handed weapons, or a bigger shield with a spear like the Hoplite), or a sword to parry any attack to the groin area. Hands hang at a pretty good height to block down there. If we really wanted to get into practical or historical accuracy, what Miriam is missing that is crucial would be a helmet of some sort. My personal preference would be the Steel Bonnet!

Lack of armor means you can dodge easier. " Polybius' Histories describe how the Gaesatae, hired by other Celtic peoples, the Boii and Insubres as mercenaries to fight the Romans, stood naked at the head of their army at the Battle of Telamon in 225BC. Diodorus Siculus reported other instances of such combat: "Some use iron breast-plates in battle, while others fight naked, trusting only in the protection which nature gives." Another possible reason for this was to avoid infection of wounds caused by contact with contaminated clothing and debris.
Julius Caesar records in his account of the Gallic War that the Gauls went into battle naked save for their weapons.
Sometimes the soldiers wore no clothing but were covered in war paint, a custom that allegedly gave the Picts their name." Like my ancestors say. "Go naked or go home!"

Another thing to consider is she was an orphan used as a test subject for most of her childhood. I doubt she had any formal training for combat. She could just be winging it and using armor and weapons all wrong. And on a similar point, where would she even get weapons and armor? Most things would be make shift in my opinion. So maybe a lack of materials is the reason behind "incomplete" armor?

People arent talking about the big roach carapace shoulder thing on her right side. Thats been there all along. The discussion is about the smaller one on her left shoulder that was not there before. I believe Dragon_of_Dojima is pointing out that there could be 0 shoulder pads for the fashion design. The reason there is only 1 is because it could be used as a guard for the dominant arm swinging a sword, let's say. If you keep sticking your arm in dangers path you want it protected, the other arm doesn't need shoulder padding because historically you would be fighting at an angle where that shoulder is farthest from harm. Have a guard on 1 side is common, it is lighter to have 1 over 2. I see no reason to cover the other shoulder.

The only train I'm aware of is the hype train. I think this game can get away with trains given the type of world they seem to reside in. Though people who prefer historical accuracy might cry foul, so eh. I say keep it believable, but have some fun. I love trains so I wouldn't mind seeing them. All the Hype belongs to me!

Well, the external article section of the forum combined with the Kickstarter info should be compiled in a post. Why haven't we done that yet? My guess would be it is the hours of interviews to pick apart for everything, that plus the physical information needed to be researched, i.e. Destructoid Magazine. Not to mention all the comments spanning this website, the Kickstarter page, Reddit, Twitter, Miriam- The Bloodstained Orphan Facebook page, Operation: Akumajo, the IGAverse at the top of the page, and all your podcasts. *phew!* The game is still over a year away from completion and we already have a plethora of information to dig through! Great work Army of the Night! And we also have another update before the new year. My brain hurts.

It's definitely England, but I can't nail down the decade. 10 points to whoever finds the setting date. I would love to have a compendium of planned lore or *facts* in this game on the forums. A reference tool for all the nerds like me who are more into the story than gameplay at the moment

I scoured the forums to try and find *facts* (subject to change until game is officially released) about the setting to Bloodstained, but I can't recall the country or year in which it is set. But my mind says it is the start of the Industrial Revolution, and somewhere in Europe. Trains might be possible. The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. The first full-scale working railway steam locomotive was built in the United Kingdom in 1804. I am more excited to see a clock tower in the castle though! The first pendulum clock was built in 1657 in the Hague, well before the Industrial Revolution. Edit: The castle seems to be on an island. Outlook not so good for Bloodstained trains.
