This update is awesome. The look is amazing!
(On a side note: I love Miriam's hair. My youngest daughter has the exact same hair except Miriam's changes color as it gets to the end. My daughter's is sandy blonde from roots to ends. But the style is the same. My daughter's hair is straight until below her ears and then it gets naturally curly/wavy. She's two and a half.)

I think everything looks amazing with the teaser shader update. Her breast size looks fine to me. It's a little on the large side, but not unattractive. Can't wait to see the backgrounds with the new shader!

For me, in any given area in a game, music+atmosphere+sound effects = tone. Lament of Innocence had all of that in spades.
Another perfect example of the tone I would like is the part of Lords of Shadow where you enter the castle and there are curtains covering the windows as the sun is setting. Part of playing that area is to pull open the curtains to allow the sunlight to stop the spawning vampires. Then later in that area, the sun goes down completely and the vampires begin to spawn again due to lack of sunlight. (Here is the vid)
That kind of feeling is something that carries games into casual conversations. (The kind of video game talk you may have had as a kid on the playground in school.) It is also the kind of thing that you remember years after playing it. This type of feeling is the difference between a good game and a great one.
The tone isn't the only way to generate that kind of feeling. Well thought out and strategically placed game elements can also achieve the same thing. A good example is using the Stop Watch in the clock room in SotN to open a passage. Or cryptically hiding hints in item descriptions (Wear....clock....). It can also be achieved by having special conditions activate during boss fights. Go into the boss fight normally and the fight proceeds a certain way. But explore and find a special item and use that when the fight begins and the boss uses different attacks or has special abilities disabled. The players may not figure this kind of thing out until subsequent playthroughs. More examples include "Meth means death, e-Meth means life." (For all the Lament players out there...) Or even as simple as learning that Sypha could freeze hard enemies and take them out with one whack instead of 6 or 8 regular hits. Alternate methods of gameplay, traversal, and combat are always memorable.
And that is what I am getting at really. The feeling I want from Bloodstained is memorable gameplay, encounters, areas, and music. Things that really make the game stand out. Things that I will want to tell my gaming friends about. When someone asks me, "So, how's Bloodstained?" I want to reply, "Oh, man, you have to see this!" Or "There's this amazing thing that happens when...."

I have to say that I loved the Lords of Shadow games. I agree that the gothic mood you describe is needed in Bloodstained.

You know what's a good middle ground between cartoony and gritty gothic? Ultimate Ghosts N Goblins for PSP ( obviously with the better tech of today it'd be a nice middle approach ( but with more realistic character models) This hits the nail on the head. It's vibrant, it's cartoony sure but it's gritty and very detailed. That doesn't mean it has to have a realistic grit to it they could do cel shaded for all I care. I'm just saying I feel like the environment in the pic is too simple and sterile looking, this shows something that isn't sterile looking. Watch video and let me know what you guys think. Obviously i'm not saying they should make everything SQUISHED looking, I'm purely talking aesthetic. I actually think this looks pretty good while still being hyper-colorful.

I'm seeing lots of Lament of Innocence references in the graphics discussion. This is good. I like the look of Lament of Innocence. LoI is actually my second-favorite Castlevania game after Symphony of the Night. Has anyone made comments about how the cinematics/cutscenes will be handled? I hope they do it with the in-game engine. Either make it like Symphony of the Night where the character in-game models stop to converse with dialog boxes overhead or make it like Lament of Innocence where the in-game models are used in 3D cutscenes. I really hope it doesn't have Miriam displayed in an anime style during the cutscenes (i.e. over-sized eyes, mouth-open, leaning forward yells (Phoenix Wright style), etc). I actually like some anime, but it seems out of place for Bloodstained. It can look too cartoony. I feel like the Portrait of Ruin intro (for example) makes Charlotte look like something out of Phoenix Wright. I don't think IGA will go down this road with Bloodstained, but, this is the kind of thing Bloodstained should avoid:

I'm all for the grapple swing. I hadn't thought of that, but it would be amazing in this game!

Colorful, but not cartoony. Like this? I've been saying this for the last little bit. Bloodstained's look should be like Trine 2. And for the most part, the concept art posted above and the images from Shader 1 seem pretty close. They still need some work, but they are headed in the right direction, IMO.

Am I the only one who likes the tilt? It feels more modern. I'm afraid with everyone shouting boo to the tilt, they will take it away altogether. I don't want it gone. It would look too much like an old 8-bit/16-bit game with 3d backgrounds. I think the game will look awesome if it looks similar to Mirror of Fate or DXC but with better lighting, effects, etc. Actually, Trine 2 is an amazing example of how this game should look in my eyes: There is considerable tilt here and it works extremely well.

I think the Shader #1 pic was awesome. It definitely needs some work, but the tilt thing is not bothering me at all. If you look at the screen shots in full size though, you can see that things like the chair Miriam sits in has sharp polygonal points. They need to apply a shader that smooths and rounds the edges. Maybe in a second layer shader? Can you do that? Apply different layers of shaders? I don't really know much about shaders, but I like what I saw in Shader #1. The color may have been a bit too vibrant, but overall it looks awesome to me.

I'll definitely watch some of that action. I don't care for speed-run style strats though (like glitching the game for various effects and/or sequence breaking that skips entire normally required areas).

Here are some of mine (couldn't pick just one):
SOTN: Alucard's Dream World area with the Succubus. CV64: Carrying mandrake/mandragora through the Castle Center to blow open a cracked wall. CV64: Encountering the first vampire in the Villa. LoI: Discovering how the vampire killer whip is made. CV3: Clock Tower, kill boss, discover second playable character, and have to play the stage in reverse. CV4: Stage IV rotating room CV2: Discovering flame whip upgrade...for free! CV2: Discovering Dracula's mansion/tomb and carrying the body parts to revive Dracula. Dat atmosphere. LoS2: Discovering that Alucard's sword is the Crissaegrim.
I could go on all day, so I'll stop there.

@ Matt Papa
Thanks for taking the time to do a podcast for us fans.
1) Since Bloodstained spawned from Castlevania, do you think Bloodstained will benefit from being tied to it or will it hurt Bloodstained's potential? Will the public be able to separate the two or will Bloodstained always be referred to as a "Castlevania" game? As the game comes together, do the producers have to walk a fine line between what "Castlevania" elements can be used and what cannot? I imagine it is hard to be a Castlevania game without being a Castlevania game (if that makes sense).
2) This will be the first game IGA has done on such powerful gaming systems (PS4, PC, etc). Can you speak to the quality of the visuals in Bloodstained? Is there someone in place who does quality assurance with respect to HD visuals? I don't doubt the ability of the artists involved, but I feel like there should be someone in charge of making sure the graphic quality is where it needs to be once that art is put into the game.
@ XombieMike
If these questions are not the right type of questions for Matt Papa, then just ignore them. Lol.

I saw some 4K tvs on display in a Wal-mart this past weekend. I paused briefly to check it out and it definitely looked really really good, but I couldn't tell much difference between it and say a blu-ray playing on my 1080p tv at home. I was about 5' away. It had some nature scene playing as a demo. Probably some designed-for-4k-demos thing. Anyway, thought I would mention here that 4k tvs have made there way to backwoods Wal-mart stores. It's the first time I've seen them in a Wal-mart around here.

For statistical purposes, I play on a 73" rear-projection DLP HDTV at about 15-17 feet away. I feel like contrast ratio and refresh rate are more important than resolution.

I'm on a Linux machine. The software I use is called Rhythmbox. I go to Podcasts->Add then put in the URL. It finds the feed just fine. Then when I try to play it, it loads your avatar and seems to start playing, but then stops immediately. Maybe it is in a format not compatible with my software. I can listen just fine on YouTube, Stitcher, Wordpress, etc. I just can't do it through my software.
EDIT: ZombieMike, I tried it with a different Podcast app for Linux called gPodder. It works perfectly. If you encounter anyone else having issues with the podcast feed on Linux, have them give gPodder a try. Thanks for keeping an eye peeled on these forum threads. And good work on the podcast.

That link works to set up the feed, but like the iTunes one, it doesn't play. I'll just listen on the Stitcher link instead of using my own software. No worries.

Got an e-mail regarding the Bloodstained podcast. There were a bunch of links, but no feed URL. Anyone have one? I like to enter it into my software to listen to podcasts instead of downloading an MP3.
EDIT: Looks like the link for the iTunes one works.
EDIT: My bad on the double post. Looks like the iTunes one isn't working after all. It downloads it, but then doesn't play. Weird.

The survey is asking me to choose my Credit Clan. What is that? Just something to let them know what group I was part of during the kickstarter? I wasn't part of any group. Should I just choose "no clan"?
