Well, considering that several Castlevania entries had a similar feature... It might not be impossible, I'd imagine. One example that comes to mind is Circle of the Moon, and its various play modes and stat builds you could unlock. I'd like to see a feature like this act as the "difficulty", as it does tailor difficulty and add challenges for speed runs; while preserving the originally intended pacing and challenges.

Hey, I figured we may as well tackle the idea of both, since we got one. I missed the verdict on tha gallery, so I lumped it in. lol
But i'm glad that's a promised answer! now, it's a matter of "how" to tackle it.
There's a few cool ways to go about this, and I'd love to see concepts on if (how) we can get it done. Sound test mode would be a real throwback to those easter eggs you'd find by entering a certain name at the character name screen, doing things that shouldn't really do anything at all, accomplishing something incredibly difficult, etc.
Glad you like the idea too!

While this is not in regards to buying your tickets (though I admit, I'd love to.) Has anyone heard word about the premium online stream? I've seen nary a wisp of news on it since they mentioned it...

One of the best things about video games is that they are an art form.
Since most of the resources will be floating around in the code already, would it be plausible to have a few basic features such as a digital art gallery and jukebox/sound test mode included? These could also be tied to trophy/achievement support in a few creative ways. Unlocking the content can be a reward for boss revenge mode, alternate play-throughs, challenge runs, etc. Potential trophy/ achievement names: Artisan, Conductor, Curator, etc.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Feedback?

Thanks so much, XombieMike! We're happy to continue providing our support and encouragement for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night! As a part of this community dedicated to the IGAvania legacy, it's been a pleasure to walk this path with everyone. The past 5 years have been full of unexpected developments, twists, turns, and wonderful surprises. Looking back, I don't think any of us would have imagined being here when starting out. A lot has happened, and it really has been pure magic! What originally started as a fan movement with a heartfelt goal of reviving, preserving, and upholding the standards set forth by the IGAvania legacy, has morphed into an amazing community of enthusiastic, dedicated IGAvania and Gothic horror fans; and I cannot tell you how much of an honor it has been to be a part of it all. Speaking for myself, I will continue to do the best I can for the community. Here's to looking forward to the future of not just IGAvania... but the future of all Gothic horror, 2D platforming, and of course... IGAvania! Thank YOU all for joining us, sharing your stories, suggestions, & creative fan works (I especially love the fan art!)... and for helping us grow to be what we are! May you all continue to bask in the moonlight, and feel the darkness within! Forward, Army of the Night!

Salt and Sanctuary. It's like Igavania's SotN meets Dark Souls. Leveling is certainly a thing in that. I also suggest an odd ball...
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (not really any leveling here and few igafania scenes, but worth a glance for the mythos).
Igavania-like games (some aspects, but not all):
Shantae Shovel Knight Guacamelee!
[reserved for more suggestions]

After two hours of downloading and two more of patching I managed to make a character and have a quick look around. Pretty game thus far. I was wondering, I think I saw a suggestion somewhere that I shouldn't do too many side-quests but leave them for levelling other classes, and instead focus on main storyline for now? How accurate is that? Depends on your preferences. I believe you level up fairly well, sans sidequest exp. You can do levies and guildheists, run your daily quests, farm FATEs, etc. Food buffs help, as do buffs from any exp accessories such as the friendship circlet or moogle cap (up to a point). If you're in a FC that has exp buffs, that helps too. You don't really need the sidequests, but they can certainly help. Another tip I've seen is about gil farming. Simply take the money for every main 1.0 quest and you'll wind up with about 300,000 gil by the end, and a materia worth a good bit too (if memory serves). Of course, the gear is nice too, but you can just make that yourself, which helps level your crafting and gathering classes. lol If you ever need any help, just let me know. I'll do what I can.

I'm certainly a fan of sending the castle design to the staff, next. It's arguably one of the larger labors; and with the shaders decided... that gives them groundwork to build upon. I'm also fascinated to hear what has been confirmed, and what everyone's suggested thus far. I for one am happy to raise my tier in support for what I've gleaned from this update. Thanks, XM and Mana!

Oh, she hasn't been mistreated. There's just no one I'd set her up with because she deserves better than anyone I know who is single. She's like my cool younger sister. If anyone mistreated her I might hit them with my car. My wife would beat me to the vengeance though, haha. She's excited for Bloodstained, she just doesn't spend time on forums. This post relates to me on so very many levels. So my response will be lengthy. Be warned! So. *Deep breath* Here goes. About 5 or 6 years ago, I belonged to a small anime forum. Chatted it up with loads of fellow anime fans, gamers, mangakas, programmers, and more. Then I came across this lass. She had the username of "Doom", and I thought she was gonna be some emo kid. I Have never been more wrong in my entire life. She's a huge gamer in some genres; but disinterested in others. Being a fan of music she's taken up mastering a few instruments. An awesome photographer, up and coming author, head of fine arts for the USA in writing. The scary part was how young she was back when I met her. At just barely eighteen, she'd accomplished as much as a seasoned pro; but she still had, no HAS dreams. She's a kindhearted spirit, and I can't even begin to imagine a guy that could possibly deserve her. I'm very protective of my own, and of the folks I care about. You wanna see what a real life Alucard, Richter, or Soma would look like? That's an idea or my levels. I'd tear down an eternally refoerming castle with my bare hands for them, overthrow Hell, and flip the world on it's side like a cheap coffee table. Anywho, that's just one tiny part of what makes her epic. She got her start as a regular forum user chatting it up about her passions; so she's a bit opposite of the lass you know, XM. Now? Well, now she's about to graduate college and head for a masters in the arts. There's no describing how awesome it was watching her carve her path out of a hellish road of adversity. She raised her own siblings when she was just a kid, never really knew her dad, but found him later in life. Had a single mom raising her and three kids but not ever being there as a mom, tended to a full farm and all the livestock, helped heal the broken hearts of no fewer than 20 people, lights up a room wherever she goes, helps run a fine arts theater, and more. She's simply amazing! As for the perfect Castlevania lass... Heh. I know another who'd fit the bill. Thing is, she's not single (sorry ladies and gents); but married. She's been working on cosplaying Shanoa for a good while now, and has the skill to pull it off at a paid for photo op level. A former model, huge Castlevania fan, and super in touch with her instincts and skills. She's another well placed and talented author in the science fiction, cyperpunk genre. She's amazing at culinary, talented with herbal medicines, holds a degree in psychology, and has a family history steeped in deeply placed European roots. She's visited Romania, and she's had a lot of spiritual energy reactions during her visits to German castles and historical war sites (some creepy stuff, let me tell you); but she's got a bubbly personality that most people would love. She's familiar with the root lore of vampires on a very deep level, knows more than a good bit about daemons, angels, spirits, pagan gods, ancient religions, dead languages... the whole thing. Everything that makes traditional Gothic culture and the spirit world tick. If an ideal Castlevania gal existed, I can say she'd fit the bill. Heck, she'd certainly make a play for the throne. To top it off, she'd give succubus a run for her money when ti comes to looks. But yeah... she did get hurt pretty badly. It happened while I was at work, and out of town. I'll spare you the details... But I can tell you I'm not letting that happen again. Not from any source. Nevertheless, I must say, people are amazing creatures. They seem to overcome anything thrown at them, and help others overcome difficult times. After learning that from them and seeing it firsthand, I've had one hell of a life. It's led me here, and they've helped with that a lot. Those are two of my closest friends (one like a sister, the other like a best friend); and without their nerdy and awesome natures, I wouldn't be here helping with such an awesome project, chatting with you amazing people! As for in person encounters? Well... Maybe. I'm a bit of a lion at social gatherings. I tend to go where I feel comfortable, but also tend to be selective. I guess we'll see, though! Maybe after this project has released, we can all hold an after-party or something?

You were right in your assumption, Foffy. Putting it bluntly, it's simply far too early to tell. A project's release date window generally depends on if the team sees fit to fine tune the project; or if they come across an unexpected setback (be it via the code, tech, publication, trademarking, etc.). Generally speaking, game development takes anywhere from 2 - 5 years per project (though some can take upward of ten). This is a consistent trend with an experienced team of 10 or more members (not being overseen and given direction from another individual outside the team); though some indie titles were launched in as short as two years, with a team of under five members (Super Meat Boy, Fez, etc.). It's really all up to how well the team can work together, how cooperative the coding process behaves, and how the pacing of development goes. It's also dependent on if the project changes during development (adding new features, or changing the way a feature behaves will cause a fair chance of increase to the development time). Sometimes it's faster to tackle the problematic parts first, other times it's faster to address the basics. Sometimes new things get added, other times features get cut. Given that bloodstained was originally planned to release as vanilla bloodstained (no stretch goals included), i think it's a fair bet to say it "might" (keyword being MIGHT) take longer. But if it does, that is totally reasonable given the change in the project's nature and goals. Either way, we'll just need to wait and see. I know I'll be enjoying the watch as things develop!

Those boosters are 100% cheats.
Max Gil, Instant mastery of abilities (as opposed to gradually learning via Equip), Max Level (maxes character level), Max Magic Stones (stones are used to set abilities, and are normally gradually acquired as a character gains experience)... All of these are cheating. None of that is an "enhancement" per se; merely a way to speed run the plot, and take away challenge, both of which were and still are features available via Gameshark/Codebreaker.
What the "boosters" fail to do, are the following: Add difficulty spikes, allow you to rename a character mid game, or let you pick up an item you missed. All excellent features (Damn you, Excalibur II), still readily available via the above mentioned methods; and all legal to do on your PlayStation console... Presuming you own both the game discs, a legitimate PlayStation console, and a cheat device.
Either way... I like that IX is getting some love.
End of the day, they just swapped a few plugins (which changes the read and compression ratio of the textures); and are charging you around $15 - 20 for it. Naaah... I'm good. I'll just use my discs.
Edit: Afterthoughts...
Final Fantasy games and touch screens? I dunno... I still can't get past the mess they caused with the Tactics mobile port, Dragon Quest VIII (mobile build), VI, and Final Fantasy Dimensions. All that float, none of the precision; and no blue-tooth controller, screen axis rotation, or save state support.
Thanks for the news, though!
