If this is actually what happened... its going to be a shitstorm. I can already hear the Mighty No 9 comparisons brewing. I honestly hope we get another delay. I would rather wait another year or two to avoid that fate.

Jan 2016 June 2017 June 2018 Everything seems to be getting worse with time. This same downgrade seems to occur in multiple areas including the Zanguetsu arena, a lot of the garden and under the drawbridge. I can totally disregard the 2016 one because it was just a mockup. But the difference between 2017 and 2018 is just unacceptable.

estebant I mean yeah it's outdated but......does that matter? The point is it looks it's BEST then and it's far from that originally aim. That's when they were still conceptualizing everything though, and polling backers on what lighting system to use. They hadn't actually started designing the castle afaik, and that area wasn't actually shown playable in any capacity. estebant's example I think is more appropriate because 1. it's more easily obtainable and 2. It's clearly something they had working and preparing for the game so it really begs the question why they went backwards on what they already had. Where the 2016 example is a concept, this one was actually actionable and playable and is mysteriously downgraded. We'd really like to know why. Sadly in neither 2017 or 2018's instance does Miriam's model look as good as it did in 2016 v.v Those are my exact thoughts. We already know what the response will be from the developers if we try to push for acknowledgment of a 2016 screenshot. But the 2017 one is much more recent and fully playable from what we can tell.

purifyweirdshard Yeah that's the best pic to use if you want to point out a downgrade. I tried to do a comparison using shapes so people can focus in on important areas for points. CircleIn the circle you can notice the background details had a foggy hue to them originally. It gave the backgrounds more depth and beauty. TriangleYou can see loads more detail in objects. From the blood details on the bottom of the columns to even little things like the stairs just looking nicer. RectangleLighting effects. The lighting effects were far far far more prominent originally. It gave the environments loads more life but without those lighting effects it feels very lifeless. I hope this helps. Angel-Corlux This is probably the clearest cut comparison. That's not to say visuals haven't improved though because the boat probably is the clearest example of how much it's gotten better with details and lighting. For whatever reason though the castle entrance went downhill. Most people on forums when they saw that first pic thought the game was great looking visually and the move away from that style hurt it I think. I don't know if it's just too much work to get it at that level and deliver the game on time but I have a feeling if the game looked like that all around people wouldn't complain AT ALL about the visuals. That image is from January 2016 so you could definitely make the case that its outdated. However this video is from june 2017 and the entrance with the statue looked a whole lot better than it does currently.

Yep, I can also prove that it only look different due to the lightning settings they're using now. The room used to be dark and now it has lightning everywhere, resulting some areas to look very different. The ground is different too, now it's just plain gray rocks. Also, the candles are utterly pointless on the new demo, there's nothing being lit by them now lol. Also the arches with the gold were removed.

I also noticed the screenshots in the tutorial splashes in the game looked sharper and better rendered than the game itself. That is so funny and sad at the same time...

Looks different, downgraded? nope! Will post a comprasion screenshots later on Please do. Get the underside of the bridge where the perspective rotates and the zanguetsu battle arena. We have old Gematsu videos of those to compare. How can you look at those gold pillars and say they're not downgraded?

Am I the only one who noticed the demo looking a whole lot more dull than the video previews we saw in the past? The zangetsu fight looks great here. It looks dull and boring in the demo. I wish I had screenshots to compare but I haven't gotten the chance to download the demo yet. This one looks so good! Not so much in the demo... This last one is the one that made me notice the differences. I seriously hope what we saw in the demo isn't what we actually get... Edit: Here are some (terrible quaility) screenshots showing the decline in quality over time. Jan 2016 Mockup June 2017 E3 Gematsu June 2018 Beta Demo We can totally disregard the 2016 one because it was just a mockup. But I think we deserve an explanation for the current state.

Hello! I was fighting Zangetsu, and I tried to jump over him, but missed the right timing and collided with his head as he was jumping, but outside the hitbox of his sword. What happeend then is that I was pushed upwards and inside the roof. After this I got stuck there, being able to walk left and right but with no way of getting out, I had to quit and reload the save. Attached is an image of when it happened:
Is that actually what the game looks like now? How come the zangetsu fight backgrounds looked so much better in the developer update 9?
