yeah I understood it was just your personal experiences and not your claim it was gaming in general. But that said I hope you mean marrying as in getting married/recently married...not just being married in general. There's PLENTY of time for games even with work and marriage unless you married a game hater or something....Until you have a kid. then it's game over for about 6 years.
edit: Playing a game now that I wasn't expecting to.. one way heroics. I got it from playism in 2013 and saw it on steam's sale, and I was like "oh yeah, I haven't played that game for over a year, maybe there's a cool new update".. so I'm doing so now =P. Incidentally, though it's on sale for steam for like 1 buck (it's totally worth it), playism has it for 2bucks like all the time (still worth it)... and there's the plus version for 5-6 bucks (didn't try it..despite the base game being worth 5 bucks easily as well, I can't stomach paying 5 bucks for a fairly minor upgrade to a game I purchased for 2 bucks over 2 years ago =P)

I just replayed most of the game recently cuz I thought they would announce SC pretty soon since they had the gall to announce trails of cold steel recently, why would they do that if not SC as well? cruel @#%@#%ers =P.
Anyway I stopped just after the final boss, I'm going to wait until I get a date for SC before I proceed.

TBH, BS' initial stretch goals were kinda silly too. like a single new boss takes 1/4 of a million dollars? really? Time attack mode has people interested, but what is it really? Basically the normal game with a timer added and saved when you're done most likely... how much work does it take to do that? $250,000 worth? hell no. Boss rush mode is something that you would think be implimented in anyway. I don't think it was until the 2m mark or so when BS started to get some impressive stretch goals.
That said Stretch goals or not, I would have invested the same amount of $$$ in bloodstained if it got no stretch goals as if it had got them.

I don't see how programming that would be very hard at all. I find all too often people find that theoretical or conditional concepts would be hard to program when they are actually amongst the easiest IMO. For example, it would be significantly more difficult to make harder difficulties harder by making the enemies smarter. You'd have to reprogram new AI code for each enemy type. But nobody would say such a thing with THAT kind of difficulty modifier.
That being said I've always had my own views on how game devs should handle difficulty, but I never would expect anyone to ever impliment it because...well, I dunno. People often just stick with what works.
But as I said before, giving the player options is kind of my personal general view on how games should be designed, so I've always thought difficulty settings should be modular, with an overall % 'score' afterwards... for example, just take your typical console rpg... Most don't even have difficult settings, but lets say I made one, instead of just having easy/medium/hard.. I'd make it so when you start a new game, you COULD select easy/medium/hard pre-sets if you were lazy or uninterested. but if you cared enough, you could goto advanced options and you'd see something like: Enemy attack power 20%|-----100%-----|300%, and you could use the slider bar or whatever to manually set it. and you'd have similar sliders (or input, whatever) for Enemy hp count enemy spawn count gold drop rate shop prices item drop rate experience generation rate experience normalization (so that you can't get full experience killing level 1 rats when you're level 50 for example) enemy evasion/hit
You get the idea... Then afterwards, you'd get an overall % that represents how hard or easy the game is for you. so if everything was at 100% (normal), it woudl be 100%. but if enemy hp was at 200% and everything else was at 100%, then it'd probably be like 110% or whatever. The math of course would require tweaking, playtesting, etc but you get the point (enemy damage would obviously be a more significant variable than their hp)..
Then of course you'd actually get a score at the end of the game (For an RPG, I'd make it so you get higher scores by defeating bosses and clearing dungeons at lower levels), modified by your difficulty %, which would be use to purchase perks or bonuses.... or maybe not, maybe just have everything availalbe right from the getgo, and simply have the score there for bragging rights (most people I know don't pay attention to score in games, but I've never met one who was like "OMG STUPID SCORE, it RUINED the game! If that score wasn't there! This game would be so much better!" so why not =P. It'd just be fun to personally challenge yourself if you really liked the game.
off topic from the difficulty thing. One 'rpg' element that many games with rpg elements do really poorly IMO is currency. Far too often they make it so in-game currency is practically meaningless after the first 10% of the game or so, and shops rarely sell anything of value other than the newbie tier starting equipment. Dungeons frequently offer better stuff than shops do from treasures, boss drops, etc, and money ends up being some number you never have to worry about.
I like etrian odyssey, and it ALMOST gets currency done right. For the first stratum or two in etrian odyssey, money is TIGHT, and that isn't just fun from a difficulty perspective, it's fun from a SHOPPING perspective! Shopping is LOADS more fun when you really have to pick and choose what to buy, when even a rest at the Inn is something you agonize over if you should do or not because if you don't you might be able to buy some not-even-major gear upgrade that will actually be major in practice on your next trip.
Unfortunately even Etrian odyssey makes money a meaningless commodity after the first two stratums or such, and the only thing that you ever have to consider the cost of are items crafted by boss drops, which are end-game gear so duh(even from the very first boss). Every other RPG is even worse, where as soon as you run into a new town you can immediately buy every possible gear upgrade for your entire party.. boring.

I haven't been playing any REAL games for many years now. Basically since the mobile gaming took over the market.(around the time Angry Birds was out) But after I found out about ROTN, I start digging up good games that I haven't played yet. I don't know about you guys here but for me it's like : "Gaming is back!". I'm going through Order of Ecclesia right now. It's the one I haven't finished yet. Man, this game is difficult! (Or am I getting too old? -*-) After this maybe I'll finish all the Igavanias that I have not finished yet, which are: - Circle of the moon - harmony of dissonance I also stumbled upon an RPG series which I've never played any of them. That is : Legend of Heroes. This seems to be a story-heavy games that will make my wait for ROTN less painful. =) What are you guys playing / plan to play now? I'll just reply to the OP before reading the rest of the thread because I have strong opinions on this alone, and the quote mechanics of these boards still look like they are being fleshed out, so I don't want to lead myself to any potential multiquotes or whatever. First off, you mention how 'gaming is back', you say that this is what it feels like for you, rather than being a simple fact or whatever, this is good, and I'm aware of it, so don't think I'm trying to argue that point directly. However your feeling is in fact what far too many 'gamers' claim these days in my experience. All too often I see misguided gamers claim things like we are in the dark ages of gaming, that gaming needs a 2nd crash, yada yada blah blah. Frankly, while I can respect you and anyone else who feels like they haven't had anything to enjoy in the gaming department as of late, I have nothing but bullocks to say to the people who feel that this is in fact a market phenomenon. Gaming is in fact practically having a golden age right now IMO. However many people fail to recognize it as such because they are too heavily influenced by media and advertising. In other words, they seldom look past the AAA titles, and the select few indie games that have some kind of media connection, or for the very odd lucky indie game that managed to get the attention of someone like totalbiscuit. Since the dawn of time gaming has in fact had Shovelware, and it just so turns out that today's shovelware is often the ones with the most media attention. So people who are lazy in researching games that suit their personal tastes are often led to believe that the entire gaming industry is somehow stuck in a bad place. When in fact we now have more access to a larger variety of games than ever before. I personally have been a fan of JRPGS (I personally hate referring to RPGS as JRPGS and WRPGs btw, but I use it just to communicate a point atm) since final fantasy 1, and let me tell you, all the way up to the playstation 1, the wait time between RPG games was nuts. There was no selection to choose from, there was final fantasy and dragon warrior and that's pretty much it...until phantasy star. Point is selection was REALLY low, nowdays, there are probably 10X more JRPG games released each year than there were before, and JRPG isn't the only genre with such a huge variety to select from. Granted, many games nowdays are bad, but many are good too, and I frankly don't think it's that hard to tell which to get. Don't just look at reviews and buy them based on score, look at reviews, and look at the pros and cons, at the comments, etc. If you like hard games and the reviewer is complaining the game is too hard, then that's a good thing than a bad. If you like super moe cute dating sim style games and the reviewer is complaining how creepy it is that fictonal girls are sexy, than that's a good thing. If you dislike liscenced music and the reviewer is praising that they hired some popular hiphop band for the music, than that's a bad thing, score means squat. And for the love of god, don't dismiss the doujin gaming market. The indie gaming market has suddenly spiked with attention thanks to steam and such, but doujin games are still all too often ignored unless a localization company puts it on steam too. However Doujin games (Japanese for indie pretty much) are IMO often better than their indie counterparts, and I'm not some weeaboo. I don't care about anime or manga, and I don't know japanese, I just know I love games, and I widened my horizons to the Japanese indie market, and my god am I glad I did. As for OoE, I didn't think the game was THAT hard but I have nothing but respect for people who can enjoy something even if they find it difficult. It's a weak character that only enjoys what they have an easy time with IMO. I personally love bowling, but struggle to get even 100 points. I'm god-awful at it! =P Now Legend of heroes.. That's a big series, and if you can read Japanese, that's a great place to start. I can't read Japanese so I'm unfortunately left with little avenues in this series. I've only played Trails in the sky, but good god is the story good. I say this as a person who often doesn't play RPG games for stories.. Visual novels and actual novels are just superior at providing a good story IMO. But I can see that Trails in the sky/kiseki is simply a league beyond RPG games that are often praised for their stories such as chrono trigger. There is the gagrav series or whatever it's called but I've heard bad things about its localization so I'll hold off for now, I'll try it if my gaming backlog is ever empty or close to it but I don't think that'll happen. But that being said, if you mean the Kiseki series (trails and the sky FC and everything afterwards), be warned that the ending is a pretty torturous cliffhanger...and not your typical oh noes everyone is going to die unless some miracle happens, whatever will happen? No, it's a cliffhanger that does NOT leave you knowing that things will work out in the next scene because the heroes can't die or anything, for that reason, it's one of the most torturous cliffhangers I've seen... I wish SC would hurry up and release ='( Anyway, I play a huge variety of games, I like nearly every genre (except fighting games, though I do like melee action games like ninja gaiden, devil may cry, etc.. I just don't like street fighter/mortal combat/dead or alive/etc style fighting games. I also enjoy every platform, console, pc, portable. I also don't play to get a platinum on every game, or to 100% it or anything. I generally play it for maximum fun, and if I start losing some interest, I'll put it off until later, so I really do try too darn many games in such a short period of time to list. But for this particular moment, I'm currently playing Creeper world 3, Devil of Decline, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Tales of Xillia 2, and intend to boot up Etrian mystery dungeon as soon as amazon delivers it to me. I'm sure there are a gajillion more I'll play or be interested in playing before this game's release but ones I am aware that I hope to try before such for sure are: Halycon 6 (another kickstarter game that was funded a few months before BS) Trails in the sky SC (dear god I HOPE it gets released before BS!) Galactic civilizations 3 (waiting for a price drop) GTA5 PC (again, price drop please, I never played teh console versions yet, been waiting for pc but I'm not gonna pay full $60 price for a digital copy of a game that is like 2 years old, gg) Etrian odyssey 5 (I think I recall someone saying it was under development) Dungeon travellers 2 I know there's more, but nobody is probably even rading anymore. blah. I adore board games, always have, but I never met anyone IRL that likes them with me, and I'm not really social so going to some club or whatever just isn't for me, plus my family has no respect for time so I'd never be able to keep any appointments anyway, I practically have to beg to be able to goto work on time. So, despite liking them alot, I never really got to play many.
I think it's a bit of a shame how misunderstood board games are. Kids are exposed to board games with little to no strategy or tactics involved, and soon dismiss them as some kind of sub standard past-time, often never being exposed to anything more advanced than monopoly, which itself is often played improperly, where people don't hold auctions, which makes the game both way more strategic, AND fast.

yeah self-limitations are a solution, but not a very good one. Games ideally should be able to provide the player with a challenge even if they are using everything they have at their disposal, with easy/normal difficulty settings for people who do not enjoy the challenge.
Just the fact that this game has multiple difficulty settings has me pretty excited about the whole thing though. And if the PC version is moddable, people will no doubt make mods that will alter leveling mecahnics, enemy strength, enemy numbers, etc.

Upside down castle was a cool thing only because when you saw it you knew you basically had twice as much game to clear IMO, which is a good thing when you enjoyed the first half. However if SoTN did NOT have the upside down castle, BUT had..well, twice as much normal castle, it would be just as good IMO.
So I personally don't really care what kind of '2nd castle' gimmick we have, as long as the total amount of castle to explore is the same.

Eh, I disagree about having bonuses for being max level. Players should be allowed to fight bosses at lower levels for added challenge if they want to IMO. Part of the fun of games with leveling mechanics is to beat it at lower and lower levels each time. Just look at how many people enjoy playing dark souls at level 1 the whole time. Basically, the more options you give the player, the better IMO. I generally never think taking options away is a good idea.

Given they stated 2017 already, and that games release later than their first release date like 90% of the time (statistic pulled out of my %@#%@% I admit but honestly I honestly think the real % is even greater), and I've NEVER seen one released EARLIER since uhh...umm...uhhh...*scratches head*... I think there was one but can't recall.
Pretty sure it's a pipe dream.. Of course, the beta version may be out by 2016, and I DO intend to try and find and report bugs in it, but I DO think we'll all enjoy it to some extent =)

Honestly I'm really floored at how acclaimed this shenmue game is. I never heard of it! and uhh. I really really don't live in a cave when it comes to gaming. I've gamed since the atari 2600, I've purchased indie games before they were called indie and were called shareware, I've owned consoles, portables, PCs, Macintosh PCs, I've bought games for all of them. I craved hard games long before demons' souls made them a fad, before I Wanna be the guy made it a half-fad. I've been a fan of Doujin games before people even said 'indie-game', and people STILL ignore doujin games. I'm named Ghaleon after Ghaleon from lunar: the silver star, because I was a die-hard fan thanks to the sega-CD version, when it was new, NOT the PS1 Remake, and I've always been named such since 199x. I've played games online when my 14.4k modem was top of the line.
How the crap is everyone wetting their pants on a game I never heard of? Seriously? rawwrrrrgh! =P

Yeah. I'm a gamer more than a ___boy, so I truly want everyone to enjoy every game they want to enjoy, myself included of course. I see no merit in wanting to deny consoles or platforms from certain promising games.
However I can't help but worry that bloodstained will be delayed because of the hurdles that will have to be jumped to try and make a UE4 game go on the WiiU and the vita. If it isn't delayed for that reason, cool, then I hope those other versions maintain the quality of the other versions...and I hope the PC/whatever version doesn't pull a watchdogs/witcher 3 and intentionally nerf its fidelity to not trump other platforms...
Console politics! UGH.

I loved final fantasy and fallout, but fallout 3 was actually a stinker for me, and ff7 was ff's fall from grace to me as well (as in it was mediocre to me, ff8 was horrible, everything before was amazing).
I really really want to hear an announcement saying Trails in the sky SC is coming out soon, like really soon, like.. weeks soon though. pleeeeaassee.. PLEEAAASSEE. I don't expect it, but I want it badly.
PSO2 West would also be great but HAHAHAHAHA yeah right... *sigh*.

why does it get more than 30 days? hax. Honestly though I would be kinda floored if it does. Shenmue only has a couple games under its legacy, the first of which is on a system very few people even got to try. Castlevania on the otherhand has had a strong presence in the video gaming industry since the NES, and it never really had a jumped the shark phase.
edit: Plus I think Bloodstained kinda deserves to reign at #1 most funded for awhile...Would be a shame if we were only up for like a single month =/

Pretty much everything I like about castlevania. The music, the art style, the exploration of a gothic castle... When I first heard about bloodstained I really had a skeptical view, but when I saw Yamane listed as the very first staff member in the project, I knew this was the castlevania game I've been waiting for.
So basically, what is it that I like in a castlevania game that I'm looking forward to? 1: Gothic castle! and a really nicely furnished one too, with ornate sculptures, rugs, walls, windows, stained glass windows, etc. 2: the music of course 3: the whole 'explore whever you like in whatever order you like (provided you can access it)' in the giant castle (I know this isn't representative of all castlevania games but it is for the ones I like most)
Non castlevania, but bloodstained specific things I look forward to: 1: Probably even MORE stained glass windows lol 2: biggest castle ever, yay. 3: Miriam is cute. But not in SUPER KAWAII DESU DESU way, in a modest classy way IMO. Shanoa just didn't do it for me. I mean I didn't hate her design, but it was pretty meh for me. Miriam looks better IMO...Though I really dislike that circlet thing. Not sure I'm big on the gradient hair either. 4: nightmare difficulty mode. squeee. SoTN is a great castlevania game, but its biggest flaw is it's dirt easy. Even if you opt not to use the crisingram or whatever it's called. still dirt easy. 5: Roguelike mode?! zomgwdfbbq! 6: will be playable on my pc and portables. I like playing thsese kinds of games on my consoles most generally, but hopefully the pc version will allow people to make mods in the future, and modding a good castlevania game? EEEEK
There are more but those are the big ones. Other playable characters are nice, but I generally have a hard time enjoying secondary characters as much as the primary in games where you can only control one character (in games where you have a party however, I frequently like the main character average at best lol). Boss nightmare mode sounds unique but I have a feeling it will be a short lived gimmick at best.
I hope this game allows for useful armor crafting as well as weapons. Far far too many games with crafting systems makes it so weapons are just so much more important to craft than armor. Normally because weapons have much higher multipliers and you can get a far better bang for your buck on them.

The first I played was the first. But I didn't own it, rather I borrowed it from my next door neighboor like a dozen times. I did in fact beat it as a kid back then because I had it so often though. I never did try 2. Castlevania 3 was the first castlevania I personally owned. I even remember seeing an ad for it in the newspaper... like the actual black and white newspaper newspaper, not a magazine or tabloid or whatever.
I never really got into super castlevania 4, I can see how the control is great and such but... I dunno. It just felt like it had nothing over 3 other than greater esthetics due to SNES hardware.
