There are some I regularly use, especially the whip tornado one (which, paired with Lethal Ring, was a great tool in doing bosses flawlessly). Some are useful and reliable, others not so much. It's one of my favorite features but it has one big flaw as far as I'm concerned. One thing I really don't like is the fact that technique don't get added to the archives when you read about them, but only if you've used them. A lot of times I've read about some techniques I didn't have the weapon for and couldn't remember the specific weapons that had it to unlock it in my archives afterwards. That's a pretty nasty annoyance imo, because I'll have to resort to a guide if I want to add all techniques to my archives without creating all weapons and then running to bookcases like a madman. Journals are added to your archives so you can read the techniques and find what weapon has what techniques easily. Then you master them and those techniques will be applied to all weapons of the same type instead of being exclusive to that weapon only. No need to be a madman. Wait, so they ARE in the archives after all? I always assumed they'd show up in "techniques" and not in another section ("Journal" I thought was for the lore entries and nothing else). That's great then!

Io onestamente, al netto della formula di base che ancora funziona, sono molto deluso.

I should really get back to the collection. Beating Bloodlines with John, Kid Dracula, CV2 and 3. I've got a lot to do. The two NES games I'm missing are the most harsh to play, because CV3 frustrates me to no end despite its qualities (maybe I'm better off playing the Jap version now that it's available) and CV2 is just an annoying trial and error if you're completely new to the game like me.
But now I've got Bloodstained to finish which I want to do asap and I've been playing The Witcher 2 for the first time which is quite the time sink.

RichterB I've enjoyed those classics, but that has little to do with my disappointment towards this game. I'd rather not talk about it now or here, maybe when I'm completely done with the game. For the first time in the series, I'll just complete the map and be done with the whole thing. I hope you take no offense with that as I love chatting with you, it's just that I'm too frustrated right now and I don't feel like this is the right thread for my rants. I'm happy for those who wanted a SotN 1.5,but I think that IGA's games evolved from it and I feel that Bloodstained ignores every improvement of the portable games, except for the Soul system. And personally, I don't need to have a nod every five minutes that says "Hey, remember this thing? It's straight out of Symphony! Remember that game?" By the way you should definitely check out OoE. Bar Circle, it's by far the metroidvania of the series with the most classic sensibilities, both in difficulty, scenery and especially tightness of design.

This review is the prime example of why I should probably leave this community for good and let everyone being happy because they don't seem to see any of the faults the game has. That doesn't seem necessary. I think the majority just weren't following it as closely so they aren't as critical. There are certainly those close to the core that will defend it at all costs/ignoring flaws, too, but that's pretty normal as well. There are things that bug me, myself. I don't know if I agree with that statement in the title, even, but I appreciate the sentiment and the in-depth excitement the reviewer has. The backer frustration parts are tricky. There were and are very, very valid and real issues with some things, and other things are yes of course exaggerated and "too close to the trees" for not seeing the forest. In any case though, yeah, I think we're going to be able to take some steps back and agree that the game we got was at least "good". That should be a fair statement at this point. I can't call the game bad, it would be unfair and objectively wrong. In fact, I'm having a good time because I really missed this formula. But overall I'm pretty far in and I'm really disappointed compared to my expectations. The frustrating thing is, I've spent a lot of time defending the game from the very first demo when everyone treated it like it was the worst thing ever, but now it's basically reversed. I see these glowing reviews, perfect scores, talking about "best metroidvania", "Game of the year", "Best Kickstarter" and I play the game and I simply don't feel that way, not even close. It's also sad because on one hand I'm happy for Igarashi because the game is doing good and he deserves success, but I'm not happy because the next Bloodstained game could eventually be just like this one, because this is what people wanted and are showing it. It's pretty clear, at this point, that I wanted/expected something a bit different. I might elaborate my rants in one elaborate post when I finish the game, for anyone who'd wish to read it.

ciel unfortunately I looked forward to preload because my Internet isn't good in fact, The average download speed is around 500 KBps, 700 if it's a good day, 1 MBps if I'm really really lucky. The game will be unlocked at 17:00 in my area, and I won't even be home by then to initiate the download. What's more, I couldn't play it tonight (and I doubt it would even finish downloading by then). One more day of waiting isn't the worst, but it's disappointing not to be able to play on launch day which I would have loved seeing as I won't even receive my physical copy until God knows when. I know I'll have fun with the game, but this launch is rubbing me the wrong way a bit so I'm not really the happiest about it.

Lucky guys who already have it. My digital code is still MIA and I can't ever savor the feeling of the physical copy until who knows when I just want to play the game at this point.

So this is a helluva first post but I thought I should create an account here to ask it. I backed Bloodstained so long ago that I didn't realize how close it was to coming out and I completely missed the email announcing the deadline for the backer survey. I filled it out tonight but only because I found out the game officially releases in 2 days. I wanted to get the Switch version for my physical copy but since I waited until the last hours to fill out the survey, I figure I am probably hosed at this point. Is there any hope of me getting my preffered version or are they just going to pick me a version at random? I also sent the campaign a message asking about this directly through Kickstarter but I figured I might get an answer here quicker. I know it's my own fault for not paying enough attention to my email but I am hoping someone can give me some good news. I tag Angel-Corlux and Question hoping for them to see your post more easily and provide you with an answer

I really love Mana's art and she is the best fit the game could have hoped for artistically, especially because Bloodstained's art direction seems a little different from old 'vanias, more colorful, more modern.
In that sense, Mana's art is more fitting than Kojima's. But Ayami is in a league of her own. IMO, Mana's talent is incredible, but Ayami Kojima is one of my favorite artist period, and her works are simply perfection incarnate. It's a different style though, and with the artistic direction of this game Mana fits more, but that Kojima piece is so rich, gothic and detailed that nothing can come close as far as dark, elegant vampire-esque art goes. Of course, that is strictly my opinion.

I really hope there aren't further updates planned after the stretch goals. I can deal with it for the stretch goals and even that may take a while, but I don't really want to wait more than a year for my physical copy, especially with what I paid.

freddythemonkey To be fair, this is something a lot of fans literally asked for. It will make the final result better both from a collector's standpoint and from the standpoint of game preservation. An actual complete product, no patches or downloads needed. And in the mean time, you still get to play the game through a digital copy you'll be given even if it wasn't part of your original pledge. Sure, I understand. I'm not complaining about it, it's just a little bummer for me. I'm used to have my games digital and when I buy something physical is just for collection value so I'd really would have liked to have the copy in my hands and savor all the quirks of the backer slipcase and such. But I do understand they're doing what have been asked and it's definitely something I can put up with. Ok no my other question was dumb, I misread.

ciel I read it but it wasn't super clear for me and I'd have liked a confirmation but I do think I understood right. As bummer as it is, since we don't know how long will it take for all content to come out and I might have to wait a year or so to receive my physical copy :/

I'd have preferred the physical copy earlier, honestly, slipcase and all, but it's just for collection purposes for me so I can wait a bit. But I really want those sweet rewards! I gotta have patience.

The art is awesome! But I'm more concerned about clarifying - as a PC physical backer, I'll receive the key on launch day, the physical rewards in August and last of all the physical copy? Did I get that right? Angel-Corlux

I'm honestly not fond of expansions. To be fair, as opposed to the extra modes we're getting for which I care nothing about, I can appreciate the old school kind of expansions, so whole new areas and content, but I don't really like to go back to a game after months to experience a snippet of new content, especially in a metroidvania game where the content could be integrated in the main map, forcing me to replay or re-explore the map from scratch. I'd prefer a straight up sequel for the future.
