Anon, I sadly must agree. I'm not ripping the devs here, truly. I think Zangetsu was indeed designed to be a "fun toy," an extra, with the original release. Unfortunately, the whole Switch debacle threw this thing waaaayyy off track, and then they had to repurpose Zangetsu as something more than he was originally intended to be. If it was released along with the original game, or shortly thereafter, I would've thought, "cool." At this point, having max'd out everything on my Myriam and played through the game several times, there's just no incentive at all to use another character.
It's a shame, because he's well-designed and reasonably fun to play, but really feels like something a modder developed rather than a legitimate extra character. As you said, the game was begging for a little more substance--what exactly did Zangetsu do when he kept disappearing off into the castle? His moveset absolutely should've been unlocked through progress. "Hollow" is exactly how it felt to me, and at this point, I think I'll be moving on. I wish Iga, the devs, and the fans well. Perhaps we'll meet again in the future.

Are there any other modes they're anticipating on cutting? Can we know sooner rather than later? It doesn't matter anyway. if Boss Rush mode is anything to go by, the extra modes will underwhelm horribly with no prospect of being amended. Why do they keep wasting resources on the lost-cause that is the Switch version, when they could instead be spending time making Boss Rush any good, and adding back in the missing content? Remember when Sonic Mania changed the Stardust Speedway Act 2 boss into something entirely brand new in a patch? It doesn't matter if the game is already out without Focalor as a boss, or without the Casino area that was planned - you can patch the existing game and fix it if you want. Seriously. We won't mind. Yes, I selfishly wish they'd have forgone the Switch version or at least delayed it enough to work on it gradually instead of shifting the entire trajectory and focus of the release schedule. To have a new IP be so hindered by having to monopolize the time and efforts of a fledgling studio to support one platform was an unfortunate blow to the goodwill generated by this project. I assure you, if there's a BS2, they won't go that route again.

Lots of valid points here. Probably an inevitable cut to remove roguelike, and I never really anticipated that working, but they said it would, so who was I to argue? Communication did become really spotty, and as I mentioned before, it seemed like when we finally heard from them, it was to deliver disappointing news. Still, the game remains solid, and I agree with Mike, I admire the vision. It's easy to do in hindsight, but I'll always lament what might've been if we had the time and budget for the same vision, but manifested in proper 2-D as a fully-polished game. It's not that BS isn't sufficiently complete, but man, the last fourth of the game is still a downer to me. I liked where it was headed, but then, seemingly out of nowhere, it's "land of the boring, giant, randomly-placed plant monsters and ice cave and...game over." Felt underwhelming for an otherwise great game and diminishes my desire to return to it.

It's not a unique situation, really, either. I believe this is commonly used for anything like characters in a fighting game, for example. I've experienced situations like this in a tournament setting - someone gets on the system and signs into the wrong account, so the DLC characters don't show. Unfortunately, I think the only solution then is for multiple people to use different save files on the same account (the old fashioned way, if you will). Game makers in general need to remedy this. It seems like such a stupid and outdated mechanic. If I buy something on my system, I expect it to apply to ALL accounts, end of story. I'm not singling out BS here, it's just always been a pet peeve. It rarely affects me as it's been years since I played with anyone locally, but as gaming evolves, this is one relic that definitely needs to be left behind.

Profound hate. Much delicious. It was a delicious little phrase, wasn't it? I still prefer seething hatred, but profound is also good.

This is the official site. I know this has been rehashed several times before, but I really don't want to have to monitor different social media just to get a comprehensive idea of what's going on. I echo Cale's sentiment. It should just be posted here, succinctly, whenever there's something to say. If you want to repeat it on other channels, all the better.

I have now deleted the game from my Switch, as it was the ugliest looking game I had and least played. If I ever get the itch to touch it again it will be the cracked PC version. Any other games you've recently deleted? Any physical discs you've tossed out the window? I'd like to know so I can log it in my current events journal, which I use to stay abreast of all the most critical, up-to-date information.

I cared about this as a matter of principle, and I still think it was the wrong way to go, but it never affected me directly. Spells are so absurdly powerful with a max'd out character that I spam them all day long. I never unsheath my weapon any more. It's just a stylish ornament, for display purposes only.

PC, easily. Best-looking, most stable, and as aforementioned, all the nifty mods. Otherwise, toss-up between X-box and PS4. X-box version looks better, but the frames/animation/stability seems slightly better on the PS4--at least it was when I last checked. I don't know why anyone would recommend the Switch, unless you're just dead-set on portability, in which case, it's the only option, so...yeah.

Hi, everyone. Update 1.0.0.6 is live on Xbox! This update brings the Xbox up to date with the other platforms,That’s not true. Most of the stuff in this Xbox patch is missing from the PS4 version whose own patch has been promised since August. Unless this was patched very recently, the PS4 is severely lagging behind the pc and Switch since the summer and now it’s behind Xbox too. Dont want to sound ungrateful, I’m genuinely happy you guys have finally pushed the performance patch on Switch and this one on Xbox but please don’t forget about us on PS4. Ever since your August Kickstarter update I’ve been waiting for it. I'm almost certain you're correct, as I believe the last response I got to "why is there no time estimate for the PS4 patch?" was something to the effect of "because there's currently nothing to report." It doesn't bug me much as I've maxxed out everything and I'm probably not going to touch the game much until future DLC, when and if that comes.

Hmmm...a little disappointing for everyone not on Switch, but it's understandable that the bulk of resources had to be diverted to addressing that issue. I'm happy for those who own the console. I hope you can now experience the game as it was intended.
It'd be nice, at the very least, for those of us on PS and Xbox to see a vague timeframe for when we may expect our patches. "No specifics" is wearing a little thin. Regardless, thanks for the continued hard work. I hope the entire BS team can give themselves a night off and take a breather. At the end of the day, we all want a great game, but the people behind the screen matter, and I appreciate all of you.

As Aztec said, it’s rather poor form to mention a patch, blow past the deadline, and then not address it. I’m sure you guys have your hands full, but making some general statement like “Hey guys, it’s on the way but maybe next month” doesn’t take much. True, at this point, it’s probably not going to be met optimistically either way. However, I always favor communication to silence.

It's just a poorly-designed weapon. I don't know whether to attribute it to a buggy hit box or one that's intentionally awkward, but sometimes it clearly doesn't connect as you'd think it should, even on targets right in front of you. Combine that with the long animation and the limited range and I've just never felt it was worth using. A shame, as I like whips and they're a Castlevania mainstay. The swordwhip works reasonably well, but the substandard DPS is a problem. I feel like this weapon is an example of originality gone awry. They undoubtedly wanted to distinguish Bloodstained whips from the others we've grown accustomed to over the years, but originality that impedes basic functionality isn't really worth it.

I think a lot of us who are against the nerfs like the game. It's because we like it that we're so critical of change. The game is good already. I've used the analogy of cooking before, but it really is apropos. Nobody wants their favourite dish ruined because the chef couldn't stop fiddling with the seasoning. Especially not when the dish has already been served, and they were enjoying it just fine. Yeah, that really is apt. It explains the irritation I feel. It's like I'm enjoying my meal, and someone snatches my plate and starts sprinkling more salt on it. Well said.

Yeah so related, let me ask - the patch we've been talking about is out now, how is it actually affecting your games/the way you play? I would wager not as profoundly as you imagined, just a bit for the new player Re: familiars, our main expectation (or worry) going into this game was that they wouldn't be useful at all - I'm glad that turned out to not be the case. Haven’t had any time to check the new patch. I think familiars are right where they should be. They’re not so weak as to be a complete nonfactor, but the benefits are negligible enough that they’ll never carry you through content you can’t handle on your own. That said, I really wish there was a familiar that buffed intelligence or shards in some way. It’s bad enough there’s no real “mage” weapon. I suspect this is because magic is already so strong.

I had a question about one of the nerfs. I read on another forum that a level 90 dullahammer head was doing 5 damage. Is that true that even though the dullahammer head was that leveled up, only little damage is being dealt? I unfortunately have not had the time to test this. I don't use that familiar, so I can't verify, but I saw the same thread and it seems that later on, the player acknowledged that it was only doing miniscule damage against targets with high defense, but generally hit in the 30s. I have no way of knowing that player's stats, so comparisons are a little questionable. I have a hard time believing the devs would nerf anything so hard as to hit for 5 damage in the endgame. That would make it completely useless without some other utility skills to compensate.
