I have been playing Castlevania 2 Redacted... a lot, I feel like the few fixes the game makes are huge game changers, the game feels so replayable, I play it and beat quite often, sometimes in the same day. Even the flaws that can make it frustrating are easy to be overlooked. It's actually my favorite of the first three games honestly, it's surprisingly short and along with its replayability, it gives a speedrun charm to the game. I keep wanting to play it over and get better, be faster, and try to not die. I would love to play another game similar to it, (it is quite different to a lot of the later games) with more refined mechanics and some improvements and additions. Something more sophisticated, yet still short and considerably simple. Since I feel the short length and relative straight-forwardness is what makes it so replayable and addictive for me.
While I love long games, I find appeal in shorter games too, sometimes I don't feel like investing too much time, I can just play without worries about my progress, and still get the feeling of immediate satisfaction.

I don't give in to rumours, however, I would seriously wish there was a good package of games, if this happens to be true. Most collections out there are not perfect and lack some options, but a least generally have a decent amount of content. For Castlevania, I wish they would take a similar route as that of the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, including most of the games that are not spin-offs, and having a lot of concept art and whatnot. Also of course, good quality emulation and more options for screen resolutions for each game (I don't know why every company can't do that for their collections, there's always at least one game that gets screwed by the lack of options, or just becomes stretched by default).
I really doubt they would do it, but it's the only thing that would make me remotely interested, since most of these games can be played easily somewhere else. If they really wanted, they could honor the history of the series with the most complete package ever, and detailed bonuses such as interviews, commercials, trailers, history behind each game's development, merchandise and probably even more. But it's Konami, so I really doubt it, not even Capcom's collections are that expansive (although still worth paying for what is offered in my opinion), so let alone Konami, which has become synonym with lazy and greedy.
I would just love to have a collection with extremely rare games, such as Haunted Castle for the Arcade, Vampire Killer for the MSX, the Arcade games and so on. But they don't seem to care anymore, if they just want to do less than the bare minimum for a collection, I honestly wouldn't be interested at all. The existence of Super Bomberman R and some beloved characters being in Smash really make me want to feel a bit hopeful again, but I'm still careful about getting my hopes up, because to me those still read as exceptions rather than the rule.
After all, besides that, they haven't done anything really. To think what was once one of my favourite game companies, being now less than a shadow of its former self, it's disappointing to say the least. I know Capcom, Sega and Nintendo get some flack once in a while for not using a lot of their series and relying on the same games all the time, but at least they still make games, and all of them seem to be willing to bring some old series that was in hiatus back again. And while they all have their problems, if someone told me one of them was going to bring back one of their old series in a big collection, I would at least give it the benefit of a doubt, as I believe that all of them can deliver a quality collection if they want to, as long as there's demand.

I have been playing 7th Dragon on the DS again. And after having a lot of problems with a particular dragon after so much time, I have finally decided to stop the solo adventure and actually create other characters for my party. It still is not a full party, there are only 3 members. I'm quite surprised at just how much easy things became. I made quite a decent amount of progress in few hours of gameplay! Even if their levels are way below mine, since they are there for support (offensive and defensive support mostly, one being a Healer and the other a Fighter), it barely becomes noticeable, the whole game became way more fun again, I use completely different strategies now, since I'm not on my own anymore.
I really like the customization in this game and also the character creation and classes, it is pretty fun with a solo run too, however, the game is certainly better enjoyed with more than one member in your party. The skill trees for each class are considerably large, and allow for a lot of choices for different playstyles. It can be quite hard sometimes if you don't manage your team well, but it is so satisfying when you start to learn the mechanics more and more.

About the creation a new game. I wonder what approach would they even take this time.
I don't think Capcom is too worried about a consistent timeline, but they kinda tried to change it with the X1 remake that's also a reboot of sorts. Anyhow, I doubt they will ever make sequels to the Maverick Hunter X timeline. But since the timeline conflicts with other series, many plot holes are created.
Command Mission one such example, taking place where the Zero series should take place. Though I like a lot of elements on that game, I can understand why it's not considered canon.
And that happens even throughout the X series, with X6 taking place some few weeks after X5, even though all the endings in X5 mention some years or months being passed. And after X6, the continuity becomes really confusing too. The particular problem is the fact that the X series tries to make a serious environment, be more plot-driven and have deeper characters than the classic series, but many of the elements that work in the classic series don't work that well in the X series.
When Dr. Wily returns, it's fine, we know he will come back, and he doesn't die, and the game is very lighthearted and doesn't try to make it mysterious at all when someone is the "new" villain taking Wily's place (which of course, never happens), it's just like a children animated series with a simple plot that just exists for you to have a reason to do what you're doing. The personalities of the bosses (which aren't shown in-game most of time, but in books with additional information) are also often comical and lighthearted.
But then, when you have Sigma coming back sometimes out of nowhere (X6 and X7), it really harms the series, in my opinion. As he adds nothing to the overall story, and is often just an excuse to revive Sigma again. Gate, for example, was doing everything because he wanted, and for some reason, decided to revive Sigma just for the sake of it.
I honestly would prefer if X6 just continued X's story line, showing how he handled being without Zero anymore, and slowly progress to the Elf Wars and all of the events unseen, it would serve as a good build up to the Zero series, and they would still get the sales they wanted from the X series. And story would be more fleshed out. The Zero series has a great story, great characters and is great in every single way, in my opinion. But a lot of events in the X series after X6 conflict with the Zero series sometimes.
While I'm generally not this obsessed with timelines, in this series case, I would really love to see it being handled better, as it's one of my favorite series. I think after X5, the series could even have more games that take place in between other games, as opposed to just direct sequels (Like Castlevania, with games not taking place in chronological order.), that would be a good way to flesh out more of the story, without so many plot holes. We could see more of the Repliforce, which would give more emotional impact to the events of X4 in hindsight. And we could experience the events that lead up to the Zero series, and so on.
I understand that it must be hard to keep a story for a long running series, but I still wish they would take this approach.

Carnack KetralTouhou is great and has a lot of good music too. Just listening fills me with nostalgia, might be one of my favourite game series out there.

I personally like this song a lot. Instrumentally it reminds me a little bit of Castlevania, mostly due to the organ sound.
I like the melodies in this song, and how it has a lot of variety that keeps things from getting a little tiring, to the point I can listen to this song a lot, basically once a day or even more. It's really enjoyable, a great slow part as a build-up to the solo and the last few minutes after the solo have a incredibly catchy melody. (There's also a weird joke song in the end, but that's not part of the actual song).

In all honesty, the only console I have is a DS, so I can play all the DS and GBA games already (which includes the GBA port of CV 1), all that is missing are the original GB ones and the console, arcade and old PC games. So I wouldn't really be rushing to buy a compilation of only those, unless it's really good with the emulation and has good extra content or at least is not too expensive. But personally, I would like if they did something similar to the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, where every main game is available, along with extra content like a gallery with concept art, and other nice touches here and there.
I personally think that's dreaming too much, and they would probably just release a small collection. If this turns out to be real anyway.

I really like the visuals of this game, I honestly look forward to games like this on the Nintendo Switch more than anything major they actually have (basically, most big budget titles). Hollow Knight, Bloodstained, Binding of Isaac, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, Cave Story, Kamiko, Shantae and most of these indie games were more exciting for me than any of the titles the media and general public were hyping up a lot. Bloodstained and Rockman 11 are the only big budget titles I'm really excited about, I love metroidvanias and 2D platformers, and the reason I like these indies so much is that most of them are metroidvanias, or have elements from these genres, and are also very charming in style, many of them being 2D games, which I really like.
For whatever the reason, big budget companies don't make games like this very often, I will sure give them a try when I eventually buy a Nintendo Switch (I know that a lot of the new games are being well regarded), but only after I buy my indie darlings, 2D fighting games, arcade titles and the like.
Though that most likely won't happen until next year or later.

Recently, I have been playing Silent Hill Origins. I am surprisingly enjoying it, as I heard it was one of the lesser ones. I never played any Silent Hill, but I know only the first ones by Team Silent were amazing.
I have been liking it so far, I hope I don't get disappointed later.

That's interesting, I actually didn't know because I don't actually use social media other than YouTube (and some 2 other gaming forums). I actually like this idea, just because it's so silly to the point of being weirdly amazing, like... World Heroes or Waku Waku 7 (well, now I kinda wish some characters from World Heroes were in this too).
Thank you for clarifying!

Weirdly enough, I didn't discover this game because of Castlevania. I actually discovered it with Wai Wai World 1 and 2. (Now, I wonder if anyone has played those?) And it's a great game. It could be a nice series. But... now all hope is lost, even for a cameo. Galamoth"I laughed the very first time I saw "Hadoukens" in the intro when I first played this on my NES emulator a few years ago." I know it's impossible to not think of Street Fighter nowadays. haha But actually, the Hadouken in this game is different, ken in this case means sword, different kanji, same sound. In Street Fighter the ken in hadouken means fist. Something like Wave Fist, while in this game it's Wave Sword. Coincidentally enough, Street Fighter and Getsu Fuuma Den were released in the same year.

That looks so different from the original Nakoruru. The design doesn't really fit her character or personality I feel. But... I don't mind because it's vampire themed! haha
Well... I'm happy with something SNK related on the Nintendo Switch (not counting the Neo Geo games). Even if it's not developed by them, it's nice and it's a step towards a future KOF on that console, or any other SNK game.
Hopefully it's a good game, SNK Gals for Neo Geo Pocket Color was great, and since it had chibi graphics, it didn't rely on sexuality. I kinda fear when games have too much sexual fanservice because sometimes it's there to sell without having a really good gameplay.
And also because it kinda throws me off and it feels too dirty and uncomfortable sometimes. And often it's just plain dumb to the point of being kinda hilarious (Maria's out of nowhere breast obsession that has nothing to do with her original character and personality at all in Judgement and the "Erotic Violence" pachislot thing, anyone?) However, I hope that's not the case.
I trust SNK to not let a studio do just whatever to their characters.

I could not believe it when I saw it, I am really happy about it. I must also mention that I am glad they did not make another downgrade sequel. The 8-bit graphics and music were great, but the lack of charge shot and slide and most features that were in the classic series even in 8-bit games was a little to much of pandering to fans of the second game who think that game is the most perfect game in the series.
The fact they are bringing back the mechanics that were missing in 9 and 10, and also not trying to just pander to nostalgia is also great.
That said, I hope they can break away from the formula a little bit, it seems they are doing it, but I still hope for more. Take a little bit of the good aspects of every game in the series, add some new ones too.
I generally try to not get too high expectations or anything, but I am literally as excited for this game as I am for Bloodstained. (In a way, they somewhat give me similar feelings, being nostalgic 2.5D games, and a more modern take on the games I like from series that were seemingly dead and that I had no hope of seeing again... the only difference is that one came in the form of a completely new series, and the other is a series revival).

silentsanctumI believe Capcom is not sold on the Nintendo Swich yet (weird, as literally everyone seems to be trying to cash-in on the success of this very new console). However, I know they will eventually release games for it. And considering the Switch is the polar opposite of Wii U, I expect more Capcom games at some point. I don't know when and what, but I expect something later.

If done right, maybe this could work. But I would like it as just a list separate from the game itself.
When a game basically ends up with "you finished... but not really" feeling. But if they go with a Metal Slug approach, I will have no problems with it. You can have the list of self-imposed challenges and such in a separate place.
In Metal Slug you don't need to finish levels saving every prisoner and not die. But if you do, there's a little list of these things that you will find for each level.
It could be like that, and also in Rockman 9 (or 10), there are those challenges: Also separate and don't add to the gameplay itself, but they're there. The usual speedrun type of thing, and the self-imposed challenges, such as not dying, or not taking damage, and so on.
I could imagine Bloodstained having this and maybe a ranking of sorts. It would be nice because it could add a little arcade feel with these challenges, while still not affecting the gameplay itself, and maybe even add more replayability for people who like having a nice record.
