Yän That I didn't notice. I'm going to have to look closer the next time I get a chance to play.

I'd think it's possible that there are areas less dangerous that they're going through to fill up the time. It could also allow for some off screen plot that would make the ending of the first play through be a bit more reasonable with Zangetsu going from "I'm not going to kill you because you are useful" to sacrificing himself for the other character. Either way I still think that was a bad ass ending and leads into the second play through well.

You could probably use that to get a rough estimate of how long the journey in this game was overall, though I'm not certain that was an intended effect of them making the moon phases change like that.

I think I'd prefer something more along the lines of an 8-bit lite version of Symphony of the Night than Castlevania II. I enjoyed Castlevania II when it came out, but that one didn't age as well as the other Classicvanias in my opinion. Even when I first played through it I was disappointed by the lack of variation in enemies, and poor bosses compared to the original Castlevania. Then again it made for a really good Angry Video Game Nerd episode.

I'm a little late to the discussion for Bloodstained CotM. I have not finsished it yet but I am close to the end on my first run. I have enjoyed it so far. I haven't played the classic castlevania games, but I am familiar with its looks and mechanics. So I feel like it plays like it should. The Bosses are by far the most interesting part of this game so far and they are sometimes a challenge to figure out, but they are satisfying when you finally get it. (I never figured out lightning dude, so I just had Alfred spam the tracking ability and killed him in like 5 seconds. How are you suppose to actually defeat him?) I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to work, but I noted in Nightmare mode that Alfred doesn't seem to have enough magic to do that boss in that way. Unless you've got something that will aim up and have a decent amount of distance it seems to be mostly waiting for the boss to come down to your level at the bottom of the screen and getting your hits in then. I found that Miriam's slide helped when he tries to blow you over the edge with the tornado.

The jump physics were rough. I don't think I died a single time to a normal enemy, but I died more times than I can remember jumping into pits, or walking off ledges, because you have no inertia and just drop like a rock. And the number of times I fell off instead of climbing up or down a flight of stairs... Speaking of stairs, not being able to jump while climbing them was frustrating. I think I found all the secret items, except for the one in stage 2. Stage 1 doesn't appear to have one, but the Curse of the Moon interface is a bit confusing. I did find it odd how easily Zangetsu allows the others to join him, let alone live. The dialogue's... quirky, to put it nicely. Gebel's walking animation amused me more than seems reasonable. If you grew up with the original games, the jump physics, falling, and stuff with the stairs are very familiar. I'm certain that it intentionally behaves that way.
Relating to the secret item on stage 1... I believe you have to play in Nightmare mode for the secret item on state 1 to be accessible. I could give directions, but there isn't anything too difficult when you've got the appropriate character and I don't want to be too spoilery.
I was thinking that about Zangetsu myself although it makes sense since this is an old style game that's not supposed to be all that plot heavy. I like how they ended it on the first playthrough though. Still going through the Nightmare levels here.

While I haven't played the casual mode at all, I don't have any issue with it being there. I'm one of those who think the way the jumps were handled fit in well with the overall Castlevania 3 feel of the game. Overall it came through a lot better than I was expecting it to. If the release hadn't been botched the way it was I think that would get rid of the biggest complaints I've been seeing. I'm hoping they get the console codes and they get sent out soon.

Hello - it's been a while since I posted. I initially indicated that I would like to receive both the main game and the prequel via GOG. I then received a message that the prequel would not appear on GOG and would be available on Steam instead. I still do not have my Steam code for the mini-game. Does anyone know who I should contact? Have you checked your FanGamer survey? I didn't get any notification, but the Steam code did appear for me in a new Download Codes section when I went to the survey. If that doesn't do it, I'd say to get in contact with FanGamer as I think the Steam codes should be out at this point.

If the hours til release on the Steam page is accurate it's looking like they're using Pacific Time for the release which would have been good if they had clarified it better. I'm guessing the actual codes will be arriving some time after that. Definitely not catching it today here as I'm ugly enough even when I do get my beauty sleep.

Sub-weapons needs to be found, and they are spread out probably. You can only get a spawn of any of them, if you have that character in your group. Perhaps is the spawn random, with low rates, or set if you have that character in your group. These are just theories. My general thought is that the locations of the candles that you find the sub-weapons in are fixed. This would follow the how Castlevania III handles it which this game seems to be largely patterned after. I'm hoping to give the older Castlevania's a quick run through before Bloodstained game is out, but lately I've been hung up on Hollow Knight instead.

Is it just me who finds it funny that the trailer starts with something like "On the night of the full moon" and the video they show with it of the game has the moon top center which is much, much closer to being a new moon.

The health bar looks shorter than it could potentially be. I wonder if they've got power ups that will extend that hidden in the game. It also looks like you'll start as Zangetsu and then need to find the other character. I'm wondering if there will be any backtracking in this one because of that. The one thing that I missed was that there doesn't seem to be a health bar for the bosses.

This looks amazing in comparison to what I was expecting. I think it's really cool who they chose for the playable characters. Having Alfred and Gebel teamed up with Miriam and Zangetsu seems like an unlikely combination with what I've understood of the game so far. I wonder how much that will play into the Bloodstained game plot when the main game gets released. At this point I can't wait to start in on this one. I'm hoping that my schedule will allow for me to have some time when it comes out.

^ that but with a timer specifically set to make you fail 'quests' unless you are constantly checking it, while also grading you based on how fast you do a task (oh wait hogwarts mystery already does that) I caught that on Jim Sterling the other day. I'm guessing there's a point in that Hogwarts game where it's not possible to get enough of their in-game currency by waiting to finish quests before they time out. All item drops go to an in-game store where they must be purchased with gold. Gold drops do not count, but are excessively rare. As an alternative you can purchase gold with micro-transactions. You get small discounts on your gold purchase for spending obscene amounts of real-world money when buying gold.

All chests in the game can be collected, but cannot be opened without keys that need to be bought at $1 per key, or with a super discount of 100 keys for $95. You'll need to take the chests to the in-game store to open them as well. There will be some weird number of chests in the game such as 546 so if you buy the keys in bulk you could be stuck with a lot of extra unused keys, but that's what New Game + (pay to unlock) is for.
