I can assure you no one in the development team thought anything would happen “automatically”. The UE4 is not magic but what it does is make the porting between UE4-supported platforms a lot easier (but far from “automatic”), especially when it’s between PC/Xbox/PS4. It’s the Switch’s lower specs that cause the additional headaches and some handle the downporting better (Square with Dragon Quest XI’s amazing Switch port, also an UE4 game) than others (Bloodstained RotN). Curious...do what you have firsthand knowledge? BTW, I was more so referring to management, not developers. No but I’ve been around and talked to/read about developers enough to know that nothing in game development is “automatic”. Some tools have helped make processes easier but this narrative about “developers being lazy” is arrogant, despicable, and plainly untrue. The Switch version was subpar because of a lack of time, resources, and probably lack of familiarity with the still new Switch hardware, the UE4 engine or both. Not because they were lazy expecting UE4 to make the porting for them and call it a day!

Where is Iga's backpack for the XB1? I know that is no big deal but if it was offered to the backers and sold to none backers on other systems you developers do not have your priority straight. It perplexed me how something could’ve been promised for launch day then be delayed to August, then September, and now in November we’re down to TBA. Now with the bulk of the Switch fixes supposedly being out I hope they can pick up the pace with the rest of the platforms.

So I'm wondering...what really happened? It seems like they made the game with UE4 for PC, and hoped that UE4 would just automatically port it over to the other systems? I can assure you no one in the development team thought anything would happen “automatically”. I got that same version (actually 2 of them). First off, I believe that the one cardboard piece holding the button, tattoo, etc.. is supposed to be removed entirely so that the PS4/Xbox version can slip right into its place in the main holder right next to the soundtrack. For a Switch copy, that little white piece of loose cardboard can be folded into a little spacer and then shoved into the back of "where the game goes", so that a Switch copy can go over top of it, so that the label side is flush with the label side of the soundtrack, so that the whole thing looks great on a bookshelf. PS: Correct me if I'm wrong anybody. i think that’s it but I’d like to see pictures of you it’s supposed to be done.

Anybody else remember back when Question told us all that they just absolutely had to drop Linux support with no refunds because "middleware" so they could focus on the Switch version? I for one am glad to see that the entire 0 man-hours they saved by not having to fix nonexistent bugs were poured directly into improving the Switch framerate, and this is the result. Switch players, YOU'RE WELCOME! Sorry you had to wait 4 months for this MASSIVE boost, but at least you have a native version Remember when this game was supposed to come to the non-UE4 supported WiiU and Vita? Can you even begin to imagine how big the shitshow would’ve been trying to run this game on consoles from 2011-12 that could barely support Unreal 3? Consider that the Switch does natively support UE4 and look how big a headache that one is. Thank goodness they decided to drop those two ports when they did because whoo boy, they sidestepped a landmine.

I also don’t know how you’re supposed to fold it and insert it but then again I got the PS4 versión not the Switch so I don’t need to know.

Alright I apologize. I stand by my post where I said that a Switch game running on UE4 at 60FPS 1080p/720p docked/undocked has yet to be seen which leads me to believe its impossible to do (unless it’s a game with 16 bit graphics or something maybe). Travis Strikes Again is on UE4 and runs at 720p/60fps on the Switch. Dragon Quest 11 is a much better looking game than Bloodstained, its on UE4 and its open world, it runs at 900p at pretty consistent 30fps. I don’t know why you’re bringing up DQ11. That’s a 900p game running at 30fps and btw it’s NOT open world. It has mid size areas sectioned off into individual zones. Breath of the Wild it is not, more like Ocarina of Time. Travis’ graphics are far simpler than anything on Bloodstained plus it has the advantage of not having to also run on 3 other platforms but you’re right. Travis does run at 60fps. And so does Yoshi’s Wooly World except with a big hit to resolution. It runs at something like 500~p in portable mode. The Switch is capable of running UE4 games but it struggles to do so at max resolution/FPS.

No one is disputing the state of the game on Switch shouldn’t have been much better but expecting an Unreal Engine 4 game at 60 FPS with zero load times on Switch? I’m sorry but you clearly know Jack AND shit about game development. That post told me that. Next thing you’ll tell me you also think all that was possible while maintaining native 1080p docked and 720p portable, wouldn’t you? This ttone of wanting to start a fight is never necessary. Please don't do that. dareka, as Yan said, is one of our most prominent contributors when it comes to game development issues. Alright I apologize. I'd be happy with a consistent 30 but yeah 60 is a bit much. Though it really doesn't *look* like a game the Switch couldn't handle. But with no experience in game development, my opinion on how how hard it *looks* isn't really valid lol It's the type of game that could have been made to run at a constant 60 fps with zero load times on Switch if it had been built from the ground up for the platform. This would have affected not just assets, but more likely than not level design as well. This hypothetical version would never, ever, look as good as the current game looks on PC/PS4/Xbox, though. And yes, the Switch, under normal circumstances, could very well handle a version of bloodstained running locked at 30 fps... but the engine was built for another platform, clearly not with a focus on portability, and clearly not by a team with the requisite know-how. Looks like everyone assumed the port would turn out fine... until it didn't... No one is disputing the state of the game on Switch shouldn’t have been much better but expecting an Unreal Engine 4 game at 60 FPS with zero load times on Switch? I’m sorry but you clearly know Jack AND shit about game development. That post told me that. Switch: Good job on the input lag, but the framerate still looks like 15 FPS. Good luck on the next patch, and please let us know when you finally decide to abandon the development, so I can delete the game from my memory card if framerate still is not acceptable (60 FPS). You better be deleting it already. This game was never going and will never be 60FPS on Switch. Ever. I’m not justifying the poor handling of the Switch version but anyone expecting a 1:1 port from PS4/XB1, let alone fucking Steam, were insane. You chose Switch for the portability factor, not because it was going to look as good and if you did that’s on you. Why it launch with input lag and unacceptable load times is a different matter but it was never going to run as well as the other versions.

As a PS4 player I feel a bit left out by failing to acknowledge we have also a promised patch (1.04) pending since August. I realize our situation isnt as dire as Switch and Xbox players are in but still.
I'm happy to see these fixes out (I would've rather have you delay the Switch version until now though) so we can finally move on to the rest of the promised content.

This sucks.
I’ve said time and time again: they’re lucky the game is actually very good, maybe excellent even, because a lesser game wouldn’t have been able to survive this fiasco.
A huge part of the launch rollout has been a disaster. I’m on PS4 and I’m still waiting for a patch they promised in August that PC and Switch have had for months but I’d nothing compared to Xbox users still waiting to be able to play the Iga Backpack! To say nothing of the Japanese fans.
I love this game but boy did they botch the landing.

I'm so happy you will finally enjoy this game! I hope you like it as much as we did. 私はあなたが最終的にこのゲームを楽しむことができてうれしいです

Such incompetence!
I'm not even a developer working on the game, and I could have told you from the very beginning that releasing small updates for the Nintendo Switch version over time wasn't feasible due to how much work would actually need to put into improving it considerably. I understand the need to qualm the woes of the disparaged, but let's be real, this version of the game needed at least 6 more months of development at the time of release; little updates wouldn't cut it, and 505 Games should have been more upfront about it instead of putting up yet another facade. The objective SHOULD have been the one big update patch from the start, marketing be damned. ArtPlay and Iga have caused just and many frustrations than 505. Stop buying into this narrative of the big bad publisher who oppressed their developers especially when said developer owns the IP and started working on it years before the publisher signed on. They both share the blame and this is coming from someone who loves Iga and loved both Bloodstained games to bits.

If you’ve never patched the game you should be okay. The problem was when you started a save on version 1.00 and then updated midgame. If you’re saying you can’t connect the PS4 online (which frankly I find very hard to believe seeing how you’re clearly savvy enough to post in a forum like this about a niche game) you shouldn’t be having any problems. Single player games being patched has been a reality for at least 14 years now, man, since the Xbox 360 launched. Like it or not this is the reality of the situation and it has been for a long ass time. Whining about games getting patches in 2019 is as ridiculous as someone in 2005 complaining they need to purchase a Memory Card to store your saves for your PS2 games. It is what it is. PS: I advice you to find out how to connect your PS4 online because otherwise you’ll never get all the free dlc we have coming our way and you’ll be left with an incomplete package. Things like a 2nd and 3rd playable character, Boss Revenge Mode, Classic Mode, etc you’ll never get if you’re not online. This isn’t the early 2000s anymore, my friend. Whether OP is fully telling the truth or not, it's always possible that he could live in the mountains with no internet, but can still post on theses forums using his cell phone internet. I work with a guy in this same situation who brought me his xbox one day to update at my house overnight, so that he could be up to date. Living without internet to your house can be a real hassle for gamers. If PS4 Bloodstained still has this issue, it should be fixed asap. I find it difficult to believe (but not impossible). So if he’s clearly savvy enough that he posts here then he may be that fabled hardcore gamer who crowdfunds niche games while living in the mountains Grandpa Gohan-style which I’m sure means he can find a way to update his console and games if he needs to. And he should since he’ll miss a good chunk of this game if he never does.

Concerning the update they mentioned something or someone called SkeletonCrews helping them out with Zangetsu. Who the hell is SkeletonCrews? Is it a dev house? Is it a person? And I assume whoever they are they’re helping with the development of Zangetsu’s DLC right?

I’m a little confused. I’m at the $100 (Alchemist Treasure) tier. Am I getting that Collector’s Box too? What item will contain the Ayami Kojima Art? None of the things in this update showed it despite the art being mentioned.
Thank you for the much improved update compared to the last one where no mention of a promised PS4 patch was even paid lip service to. Can’t wait to hear more and play the additional content.

There is no reason to do so, all they need is an more experienced partner. There is no reason? This whole farce is the reason. Their decision is understandable from business perspective - they wanted money. Good short term decision but eventually bad long term one. Now they need to come out unscathed if they will try to come up with a sequel with switch version. You take actions based on feedback - corrective and preventive actions. Saying that all they need is more experienced partner is nowhere near a solution. You could say all they need is a little more time, money, luck, ... (insert random word with positive connotation). What if they cannot afford a better partner? More experienced team may also not live up to the challenge if faced with extreme deadline schedule, lack of resources, trouble with communication. They don't need more, they need to face challenge, admit what needs to be done and take to heart mistakes so they can be avoided. Saying more experienced partner also throws they current one under the bus. They are people. Maybe they weren't given proper tools, training etc.? Blaming one side is easy but it is always more complex. When you have workers and they make a mistake you should try to train, teach them to not make such mistakes. Listen to them, maybe they lack something in order to finish the job. The same goes to parents. You don't throw your child away because it did something bad and say: I need a more experienced kid. You adapt. Aztec stated the obvious but sometimes the simple solutions and actions are the best. Calm down. Im the first one for taking them up to task for failing to stick the landing on an otherwise great game, but this wasn't a "farce". Just another small team with a bad case of biting more than they could chew because #KickstarterStretchGoals. Nothing more and nothing less.
