I know I voted for areas outside of the castle as I vividly recall interviews about how the game was pitched originally as a globetrotting game with the possibility of new locations as expansions or DLC. I think that idea can have promise if done respectfully for consumers and not just some gated "episodic" kind of experience where the full game is the price of three games or something of that sort.

Very odd that the boss rush doesn't include all of the bosses. I was wondering how they'd do IGA, but it seems they skip most of the latter chunk of bosses entirely anyway.

I'm sure even IGA outsourced a few projects while being at Konami. I believe The Dracula X Chronicles, Judgment, Adventure ReBirth, and Harmony of Despair were all external projects.
The question, of course, goes back to Konami: do they care for the types of games IGA is known for? Do they care for that period of Castlevania? Do they care about making games at all?

1897 and Quincy Morris, as the novel Dracula deeply contradicts the mythology of Castlevania's Dracula. IGA said he wanted to make a game around Quincy during the production of Portrait of Ruin. The fact he's so open and candid about the series shows he still cares for it. Now, if that lines up with what the current, unnamed Castlevania producer is fine with, that would be pretty cool, but I have an assumption Konami's already making a Castlevania game without trying to contact IGA. So it was clickbait then. Sorry about that everyone. I wouldn't say it's clickbait. Remember, Konami is using much of IGA's canon with Grimoire of Souls, so they've already announced games continuing the world and timeline he made. Whether or not Konami touches those two gaps with Quincy Morris and Julius Belmont is still a question mark. The fact they're even going back to IGA's canon after the reboot is surprising in itself. My assumption is the fact the series has a producer, this person's been involved with the Netflix show and the Anniversary Collection, and a rumor from a known leaker that Konami wants to actually "counter" Bloodstained all make me believe they're planning a more traditional game. For all I know it could just be an adaptation of the Netflix show. Still wouldn't make it clickbait.

Wonder if the other story he considers unfinished could be the novel that takes place after dawn of sorrow following Julius' apprentice, Curtis Lang. He did supervise that novel. It would be interesting if so following Curtis Lang with the Holy Whip/ Undead Killer and Michelle Danasty and her crossbow/silver arrows (either as an extra character or in a partner role like in PoR) take on Count Orlox trying to take the role as DarkLord after Soma refused the role.
Just a thought. Everyone already knows about and wants Julius and the Demon Castle War of 1999, but just curious what the 2nd unfinished episode he was referring to could be. 1897 and Quincy Morris, as the novel Dracula deeply contradicts the mythology of Castlevania's Dracula. IGA said he wanted to make a game around Quincy during the production of Portrait of Ruin. The fact he's so open and candid about the series shows he still cares for it. Igarashi's games, and to a larger extent Castlevania itself, have usually been pretty bad with endings.
If they even plan anything, that might be interesting in itself. I'd be cool if the ending is a wink to what Bloodstained was pitched to publishers as, implying a more globetrotting affair. Maybe they defeat the baddies but something related to the Liber Logaieth or the Ars Goetia gives hints something else in the world is amiss.

I imagine the closest we're gonna get to Dracula is the Koji Igarashi boss fight. Throw in some lore about him being a Vampire from the East, and just give him Dracula's first phase form.
Now for the Mysterious Man, I think they're playing very on the nose about the fact it's an Alucard-like figure. If his hair was white, for example, that would be Alucard in different clothing. I have no reason to believe Igarashi has character rights, so I'm curious to this characters original lore.

Gebel and Bloodless seem like candidates for the Boss Revenge mode.
Shovel Knight or the character Robert Belgrade is voicing seems like the two most likely for this.

Finding it a bit humorous to read how it missed a 2017 deadline which was stated during 2016 that it was a date they had to put because Kickstarter mandated a release date so they chose a SotN reference. The feedback seeming to be "vague" shows all the person who wrote this article went on was the video; as if a video in less than five minutes is going to highlight the complaints about lighting and depth in the image, something backers on the Discord constantly brought up, and why IGA and co brought in a studio to literally do cleanup in this respect.
This was written by a person who seemingly doesn't understand Castlevania, Koji Igarashi, and the history of Bloodstained other than a Google search. Screams like an article that's all about faking knowledge to come off as knowledgable.

I forgot about the retro level. I guess they might just get Inti to make a new stage and have it playable in RotN?

Foffy Naw nothing like that, I kinda think that most of that they will just leave for the fan's to discover as they play the game to be honest and that's fine with me. hyugakojiro I unfortunately learnt the hard way last year not to put that much faith in my guesses when it came to release dates, a bitter lesson to be sure but I had it coming. I'm glad your surprise this year is more fun than mine was. I don't think that's a smart move, as players might be expecting something like the Rougelike or the six stage mode and get a bit upset that they're not there. It's very important to know what might NOT be at launch, so the expectations of launch are in order.

Do we know what modes the game is launching with? Have they made a recent statement on the state of the stretch goal modes?
I can live with the usual IGA model of base game, additional character runs after you cleared the game, and a boss rush for launch.

I hope we hear a date soon. I wouldn't be too shocked if it's coming out before March.
The only way this is a late 2019 game is if the game is having major development snags, and I would hope not...

The fact they're not talking about a release at E3 kind of gives away their 2018 target is going to be completely missed.
How much it's missed by is the question.

1: Seeing as Gebel is the antagonist of the main game but a playable character, it seems fair that Gremory fill the role. I mean, the community assumed early on that she was essentially the Death to the
2: I would by being a spin-off it means that its importance to the main game is only slightly neglected. The term "prequel" might give casual consumers that you need to play Curse of the Moon to play Ritual of the Night, and I don't believe IGA has really pitched many of his games as prequels or sequels to others, unless you count the Sorrow duology and Symphony of the Night. He probably wants to avoid the problem of a comprehensive timeline all over again, even if fans have entertained a time period the games take place in.
3: I was actually surprised Johannes isn't playable. I would have expected him over Alfred, but I imagine Johannes' abilities, if based on artwork, would make him essentially the whip user of the game, which Miriam also is.
4: Shortcuts and stuff are fine, and that's not an issue for me. Having different routes is interesting for replaying the game, but I wonder if that would play a role in the multiple endings stuff.
5: I would like to take this question and move it into mechanics. Their presentation and skillset is fine, but I'm not a fan for how the game handles multiple playable characters. Unlike in Dracula's Curse, a character death isn't the loss of an ingame life: you need all of your playable characters to die before a life is taken away. I feel this ruins potential "character only" runs, seeing as a death in one part of the level might as well be a reset of the whole level, seeing as you'd have to die three more times to get the character back. Really puzzling decision...
6: I imagine some endings will make references to stuff associated with the main game. For example, I totally imagine Miriam's ending to be one that references her comatose state before the game starts.
