Today I finished this: Not exactly happy with the result, but I hope it's gonna be a good surprise and that my friend will like it.

I need to thank you for bringing this to my attention, I had never heard ELP before... I'm sad it took Emerson's death for me to get to know them, but I'm happy to be able to listen to such amazing music. RIP

Sometimes I wish I could draw, but my talents lay in writing, not drawing, I'm afraid. (I actually feel inclined to write a Bloodstained fanfiction, but... I'll wait until the game is released and I understand the full story, rather then write a story now and end up possibly making some laughable assumptions about what's going to happen in the plot.) Today is going to be uneventful for me, but tomorrow I'll be spending most of the day doing yard work at my sister's place. If you want to draw, just draw. Everyone can... while for a naturally talented person it will be easier, if you work hard you can absolutely draw something that you'll be happy with. Doesn't matter if it doesn't look good at first, if you truly want to draw and get better at it, perseverance is everything. I only started in May last year, just ten months ago, and while I'm still well below average as an artist, I feel that I improved tremendously with every drawing I did and there's still lots of room for growth. What I'm gonna say right now is kinda cheesy, but if you look at something you did and feel happy and proud about it, then that's good enough in my opinion. And if someone else likes it too, it makes you feel even better. Last year I did this drawing as a birthday card for a friend, and her delighted reaction was one of the most satisfying things I felt in a while. That reminds me... another friend's birthday is coming up this Monday! He's a huge Kantai Collection fan, so I'll see if I can throw something cute with his original character and his waifu Harusame.

Wow, I never realised the crystal flower on Miriam's back was actually 3D. I thought it was flat like all other curse marks o.o
The model looks gorgeous, as does the shading. The only thing about the shading that left me a bit disappointed is that under certain light conditions her hair looks too solid, almost as if it was made of porcelain.

I read Naruto Gaiden today. I was putting it off because to me the whole 4th Ninja World War arc was a huge, huge disappointment. Gaiden was ok - short and silly.
Also got a haircut after a few months without one haha. My barber finally caught up to my strategy of asking for my cut to be shorter than ideal so I could go an extra month without going back there, and now if I ask for it to be shorter he just says "nah, you look better like this" XD
My parents went to the beach without me. I like being home-alone, but unfortunately everything except my room looks like a warzone. I guess I'll spend the rest of my day cleaning up after them. So exciting!

Oh, as I said I know why it is hard for Japanese people to get english pronounciation right. English is also a second language to me, and even though I'm a westerner and grew up with the same alphabet as everyone else in this hemisphere, it took me almost 10 years of constant exposure and lots of practice to feel completely confident in my pronounciation, so I totally understand why to the average Japanese person english pronounciation would be hard. My comment was more along the lines of, if I were a Japanese VA, I'd put a little more effort into practicing even a little english / german / french or whatever foreign language is more popular in media there, and if I were a producer I'd make sure my totally serious scene in a murder mystery / suspense plot wasn't completely ruined by hilariously bad pronounciation. XD
Anyway, I'm very off-topic here. Sorry about that.

I learned about this in school but it seemed like IGA knew this as well. It's actually pretty interesting! Here's a wiki to Rhoticity in English and an article from mental_floss summarized this. Basically it's what Goobsausage said. I was going to play XCOM 2, but now I'm gonna read about seven Wikipedia articles on English pronounciation, because that's how Wikipedia works... Thanks for the link, Mana!

The bolded is an understatement to say the least The pleasure that the overall Japanese entertainment industry seems to take in butchering foreign languages is well known and equal parts hilarious and depressing. I can only assume its a function of so few bilingual people in the country - not enough people to hold your feet to the fire if you mess up. If you royally screw-up a language, any language, in the States, there are enough people fluent/competent in it around who will chew you out for not doing your research. The impression I get is that even with English classes being common in Japan (from my understanding at least), not enough people speak English well to care if you mess up. Like I can jam with derpy attack names to a point but stuff like Five's English in Terror in Resonance (a recent anime) was just painful to listen to. Japan also seems to have a bit of a French/France "fetish" so hearing them butcher French words too is also painful to me as someone whose second language is French Anyway, yeah, if y'all stumped for names & stuffed, don't be afraid to ask. I'm sure we'd all be willing to help Kinda late into this discussion and a bit off topic, but this reminded me of a scene in Subete ga F ni Naru where two characters talk in English for half an episode, and while the grammar was pretty good, there wasn't a single word they didn't completely butcher the pronounciation for. Subtitles were almost mandatory even though the scene was in English. I honestly don't care much (actually I think it's pretty hilarious), but I had to wonder why sometimes it seems like in Japan content creators don't care at all about a halfway decent English pronounciation, be they producers or even voice actors. I studied enough Japanese to know why it's hard for them to get it right, but I never understood why that is. The only time I've seen good English by a Japanese VA was Nabatame Hitomi as Cindy in Squid Girl / Shinryaku Ika Musume. I actually thought the English lines were done by a different VA until a friend told me otherwise.

So.. Danganronpa was released on Steam last week... erm.. I think it's about time I get off the computer and go for a shower... Jokes aside, I finished it yesterday and had a great time, even though it was my second time playing the game and I already knew all the plot twists. It's one of those games that give you lots of subtle hints throught the entire story, and you'll probably only make sense of all of them on your second playthrough. The first time I played it was the fan-translation for the PSP (I know, naughty me for piracy), and I loved the game so much that I simply had to give my money to Spike Chunsoft now. Since I don't have / can't afford / don't want a Vita, I'm now anxiously awaiting for Danganronpa 2 to be released on Steam, hopefully before they start airing Danganronpa 3 (which is an anime). If you like murder mysteries and visual novels, get it. Can't recommend it enough. I was also playing a bit of Project CARS. I have no idea if anyone here is into racing simulators, I really don't expect anyone else to be, but I was doing some practice laps around the Nordschleife... even made a video of it XD Now, back to dealing with the alien menace in XCOM 2... and when I'm done with that I'll finally be able to come back to discussions in this forum hahaha

There was also a spot where I could stand at the beginning of the game where the infinite spawning enemies couldn't get me, so I could just let my familiar kill them for me for XP while I left the game on all night. Ahh... those were the days. I don't want to sound rude, please don't take me wrong, but is that really your idea of fun? Why do you seem to have fondness for leaving your game running while you sleep (that is, not playing it at all)? Personally I never cared for levelling familiars in any Castlevania game, but if I did, I'd rather do it myself than just cheese the game like that. Honestly I'd laugh at the idea of leaving this power-thirsty, heat-dumping monster that is my computer on just to level familiars as I try to sleep. As far as grinding spots go, I feel that if developers want you to grind, they shouldn't make it hard, especially if the game is singleplayer (and thus has no online economy). It felt really good in OOE when I equipped two gold rings, Winged Boots and Irine Pecunia, found the room with the closest candle possible and racked up 100k gold in less than two minutes. I wanted to have lots of money to compensate for my lack of skill, and the game, mercifully, didn't ask me to spend hours on that task. I don't see why farming in SOTN was any more special or objectively better (if such a thing existed).

Been thoroughly enjoying XCOM 2 recently, which also made me play Xenonauts again. Those are kind of games you have to play when you're on break or vacation, because it's really hard not to tell yourself "just... one... more... mission..." and then you realize it's already 4AM.

Had an interesting episode with my cats today. I declined to sit at the chair in front of my home computer and just leaned forward to get my head level with the monitor. That was the cue for one of my cats to jump on my back and lie down. So I spent short moment walking around leaning forward like I had some severe back pain in order to prevent myself from disturbing the cat. I eventually got her off my back after about 5 or so minutes of this. The cat in question, she's named Princess, is the most openly affectionate of my cats. I've had countless occasions where I'm playing some online game (which, y'know, can't be paused) at which point she jumps up in my lap and wants to cuddle. Probably pawing at my face to try and get my attention. I know that feeling all too well. Click the spoiler for cat-during-online-gameplay cuteness

Wow... she is SO talented. I'm now hoping she'll do at least something art related for the game in the future in addition to her community roles. It would be such a crying shame to have this kind of talent on board and not use it.
