Generally in Iga's games, there is a second castle with a different set of rules (ie SOTN upside down) located beyond the veil in the void, or rather within chaos. I haven't had the opportunity to watch all the Twitch broadcasts, but if Bloodstained will be following a similar formula I've an idea for it.
Imagine the entire map being redesigned using a stained glass theme for both walls and floor, alomst a mosiac of their original appearance. Reflections visible on the screen, light of the moon shining through portions of the glass. Where windows once were, tattered paintings and tapestries take their place. But, in the void, rightside-up just doesn't seem right, does it? But neither does upside-down. So each segment of map is tilted and contorted at a different angle - some almost rightside-up, some almost upside-down, some at varying diagonal degrees or even just on their side. On the map screen, everything displays as normal, only furthering the disorientation. Everything seems familiar, yet 'not'.
Anyway, I think it'd be neat.

it was discussed in this thread Upside-down Castle if you want to see what was said come on over... and if you want to add to it or restart it with new ideas that would be awesome.

The most modern technique of this, I think, is Zelda: a link between two worlds. The puzzles and dungeon exploration are hidden by switching to 2d, like paper Mario.

Off topic, but Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was my SHIT when I was younger. Wtf can't the newest Paper Marios be like 64 and TTYD...?

Honestly, I think the whole alternate dimension thing is really hard to do. Almost all the Zelda dungeons I went through blew my mind. I'm sure developing those was even more mind boggling
